I arrived to purchase the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder on Friday June 10, 2016. I put down a cash payment of $2000 towards the purchase of the vehicle. After test driving the vehicle I saw the service engine light on. I brought this to Davids attention and was told it was nothing, probably just a cheap O2 sensor. I were concerned that it may the catalytic converter, given the "codes" that were coming up on the tester, so David gave an additional $300 to cover that cost. After further discussing other possible problems with David, I became concerned and he told me that if there was something else wrong with the vehicle, he would take care of it. I did, however, find it odd that David refused to put that into writing after I asked to him to do so several times. David, telling me that he "wasnt allowed to put anything in writing". David kept insisting that he would take care of any major issues that may arise. I trusted him and his verbal guarantee, so I agreed to the purchase of the vehicle. After taking it home a few days I would intermittently lose power, the engine would whine and pull harder, so I didnt drive it much. After speaking with David about this and him telling me its probably just the air conditioning turning on, I drove it to work. On June 20, 2016, when I left work to come home, at 9:30 at night, I found myself stranded on the side of the road several times. The vehicle would go in gear and then would not. I made several calls to Davids office only to be disregarded for days. I even sent emails hoping to get a call and some help from David. At this point, I called a mechanic on Wednesday June 22, 2016 and had the vehicle looked at. It was determined that the radiator had a crack in it and the transmission was bad. I had the vehicle towed to the repair shop for $50. I paid $ 850.86 for the repair of the radiator and flushing of the transmission, hoping that we could save the transmission it self, as David and I had finally discussed on Thursday June 23, 2016. After the repair, I had the transmission tested and it did not fix the problem. After discussing this with David, he told me he would pay $700 for a transmission. I told David that would not even come close to the cost of the repair. David said that is all he was willing to give me. David has knowingly sold me a LEMON of a vehicle. My family and I depend on reliable transportation. I believed David to be an honest individual at the time. Now I am positive David only wanted my money. Here it is July 27, 2016 and this vehicle is still out of commission. What would you do if this was you and it happened to your family? At this point I feel like Ive been duped, taken advantage of and that David knowingly did so. Fraud is what comes to mind when I think about the experience that Ive had with David and Monticello Motors. Update: July 27, 2016: After posting this review, which is suppose is what it takes to get a response from David, I finally get a call back regarding this issue. David agrees to pay the cost of the labor and a portion of the cost of the transmission. I agree to this and tell him to pay the mechanic directly. After following up with the mechanic, I am told that David short paid. I called David that same day and finally three days later he calls be back. I reiterated the conversation we had regarding the payment on the transmission. He told me he would not be paying on the transmission as he and I had agreed upon. Wow... this is not a very honest individual.....

I was in the market for a specific classic car and found exactly what I was looking for in an online search. I had some doubts about getting on a plane and flying 1300 miles to see the vehicle, but after I phoned and talked to David, I was booking my flight. His enthusiasm and helpfulness gave me confidence, and it was like talking to a friend rather than just somebody at a car place answering the phone. At the airport, he met me, drove me to the dealership and I bought the car. Drove it back to Texas over the next two days and David even called to check to make sure everything was going OK. The dealership is small, friendly and accommodating. David and his wife are the owners, and give a very personal touch to the car-buying experience. All along the way, from start to finish, David answered emails and telephone calls promptly. He understood that this was a special car buying situation, and worked with the previous owner of the car to get extra documentation, receipts, etc.

My husband and I could not have been more impressed by David and Christy! While car shopping, we were avoiding used car lots like the plague, dreading the pushiness and effrontery of the infamous used car salesman. In David, we found a friendly and kind man, seeking to help us make a wise decision about an auto purchase. The car we test drove was in excellent condition. Moreover, Monticello Motors openness with allowing us to test drive the car, look it over carefully in complete privacy, and talk together about the purchase without pressure was unmatched by anything else I have seen in the used car industry. Additionally, Monticello Motors was extremely prompt in responding to my inquiry for information. We will start here in the future when looking for a used car!

Great experience. I have been searching for a work truck in my price range for a long time. I came across and old 78 GMC at Monticello Motors that I thought I would go check out. I ended up being very pleased with the truck but even more pleased with the service I received. David is a military vet, so am I, and it shows in your interaction with him. He is what a salesman should be. Honest!! His wife was also extremely nice and helpful. Together they form a great team! I will definitely be doing business in the future with them and encourage anyone thinking about buying a car to give them a chance. Thanks Monticello Motors and wish you guys many more years of great business. Keep it up. Jesus

I had a fantastic experience with David at Monticello Motors. David was flexible with my working schedule, gave no hassle during car buying purchase and provided a clean, well detailed vehicle ready to roll off the lot. Monticello Motors is next to Airport Road Auto Center and does any mechanical work, if needed. (They have their own 4.7 star rating) David, who is a one-man show and a US Army Veteran, took care of all paperwork and financing while I was at work so I could stop by, sign and go all within about 30 minutes. I would highly recommend Monticello Motors.

This dealership is one of the best kept secrets in Charlottesville. You might be tempted to write it off as a typical high-pressure, anxiety causing operation but what you will find is just the opposite. David and his team cut fair deals and stay true to their promises. Unfortunately people are most inclined to leave reviews after a negative experience so keep that in mind when using online reviews as a source of information. This place does its best to compete with the other options around down and holds its own through honesty and fairness. Give them a shot.
