I love the Belk store because they have a variety clothes and bags made by great designers! However, in May I decided to purchase a handbag from Belk for myself for Mothers Day. I wanted either a Michael Kors or a Coach, but I wanted to take my time before I purchased a bag. The sales rep (I cant remember her name), petite with long black hair was very rude and seemed like she was rushing me. She asked if she could help me three times within ten minutes. I felt like she wanted me to hurry and purchase something or get out! I ended up purchasing a swagger from Coach. Yesterday, I decided to give Belk another try. I was interested in a Coach wallet that was on sale. I gave the rep my info because I planned on going back to the store this morning to purchase it. As soon as I walked maybe a foot away from the counter, the other sales rep (the same rude young lady from my last experience) runs up to the rep who was helping me and yells, "Oh my goodness, I loved your PreSale!!" Maybe Im over reacting, but this is not good customer service. Today I am going into Coach to purchase the wallet. I know I have to pay a litter more at the Coach store, but I feel like a customer there and not just a sales number. The employees also go out of their way to answer my questions. Its a shame because Belk carries lovely hangbags and accessories.

As soon as I posted the 11/06/10 complaint, the Charlottesville Belk store manager called me personally to resolve the issue. Seems that we agree on the customer service problem, since he just moved to the area from out of state and knows what improvements are necessary. I wasnt bribed - I was won over by the immediate response and the understanding he conveyed. Too many retailers ignore these complaints... I look forward to seeing the changes!

As big as the store is and with as much help as they have youd think that it wouldnt be hard to find someone to ring you up but no one ever seems to be around. The other thing is most of the staff (especially the African American girls) never acknowledge you muchless offer you help...Belk needs to focus more on customer service!

Shop the mens department mostly. I have attempted to try on clothes there but with last visit refuse. The dressing room was deplorable! Wrote a note to manager and he had a salesperson call me instead of himself. Will never buy or try another piece of clothing on there until these rooms are cleaned and updated.

Lousy staffing... Only one employee to be found in the whole men and home side on a Saturday evening...and his name is Simon. Hes very helpful and courteous.

I love Belk, but they dont sell fried chicken! Thats a shame, but they have tiled floors. So I guess that makes up for it.
