This store has some very unique products that are hard to find in the area. I love their frozen food section. They have wonderful dumplings, and some amazing cakes. Many of these are made in New York, but if you recall their are a lot of Russians in the Brighton Beach area. For me, the highlight of the area is the cold food case. They have great smoked fish, I loved their cold smoked mackerel. They also have salmon egg caviar. Get salamis can be found here as well. The produce section while sparse has great prices on mushrooms, herbs, and what not. There are Russian trinkets to be had here. This is a Russian store. Do not expect people to smile at you, and coddle you. You arent going to get in a conversation about the weather, your children, or anything else. There are great prices on teas, candies, and they have good selection of dry groceries. This isnt your conventional American style store. You can find many good items here.

For those that might find the size of Phoenicia overwhelming this Meyerland specialty grocery store caters to Houstons enclave of Eastern Europeans. On offer are European beers, breads, a deli (with veal loaf, fresh pastries, pickled salads, and specialty sausages), pierogis, gingerbread cookies, pickles, olives, fresh vegetables and a selection of layered cakes. Even fermented mares milk (koumiss) and exotic berries can be found here. All of the food is arranged by country of origin so you can eat the food of a particular country if you choose. The non-food items include books in Russian, Putin t-shirts, Russian military hats, Russian dolls, babushkas, carved wooden santas, Baltic amber, and a whole section of herbal medicines. The deli manager with blonde hair and Asian features that helped me belies that mashup of Asian, European, and Middle East that compose the former Soviet Union.

This is a small, filthy store. Do not buy bulk products as their packer does not use gloves and washing hands frequently enough is most likely an issue. I agree with one person who says there is nothing Russian. All products so called Russian come from New York which is obviously located far from Russia. Ham/salami come frozen and then get defrosted. Prices are much higher than at Phoenicia that sells similar products. Customer service has no smiles and the energy in general is gloomy. Id not recommend this store to my friend.

Ive bought caviar, bread, wine, sweets, shampoo, and small gifts here. It is my favorite. I always stop by when visiting Houston. "Customer service has no smiles" If you are not Russian, you may not understand the culture of the Russian people. I can assure you that the store clerks are not trying being rude to you, it is the culture. It is not customary for store clerks to follow you around and annoy you while you shop. Theyll mind their own business. I personally prefer it that way!

This is an awesome little store! The foods and meats are genuine. The fish is fresh, it is just smoked and salted as is tradition in Russia for that type of food. Someone who has never eaten it would not understand that it is a food that requires a certain palate. I go here with some friends from Moldavia. They are a small family store, but have great quality items. I love this place and will continue to go back!!

You can find any kind of Russian food and deli here. Besides food there is a huge library where you can buy and rent Russian books. Huge selection of Russian drugs and herbal essences. Also, they have a small jewelry section with amber products. Various Russian souvenirs are abound. The space around the racks seemed a bit tight. But all in all, very nice store with good service.

Beware of the quality of some food that this store sells. They sold us herring that they claimed was fresh. We had to throw it out because its flesh was falling apart, it was too salty, and it was also starting to smell funny. The same thing occurred with cheese sometime ago as well.

They sell food that is expired. Customer service is lacking. You feel like they are doing you a favor I also have to add that weight times are incredibly long. And owners are downright rude to the customers.

Some of the rudest customer service I ever encountered. I left before purchasing my items, just because of the overt rude & snide responses. People like these dont deserve your business.

Authentic Russian food and friendly staff. Just keep in mind that Russian people rarely smile at strangers and especially at customers. They are not rude, it just a part of the culture.
