Small, quaint, and tucked away this place is reminiscent of Japanese culture or at least in terms of convenient stores. Nippan Daido has what youre looking for if youre looking for Japanese-specific produce and groceries. This Japanese grocery store is quite unique in that there isnt many like it in Houston; in fact, it may be the only one in Houston (to my knowledge). They have a wide assortment of Asian groceries, all mostly Japanese, such as Katsuobushi, dashi, konbu, okonomiyaki sauce, kewpie mayo, snacks, green tea kit-kat, soba noodles, sun brand noodles, and more. The items are varied and well stocked given the limited brands to choose from, and they even have slices of fish/sashimi on sale portioned for single persons (just like in Japan!). This store will probably have it if youre looking for a Japanese-specific brand but many of the items can usually be found at other international grocery stores. Overall, this place is worth a visit if you havent checked it out before, and they carry Sun Noodles which are pretty much the epitome of ramen noodles in the west. Prices vary but in my opinion are a bit more pricey than other Asian grocers.

Hi, Im from Louisiana and I went to DAIDO to get some food today. I spent $80 for food, and I needed some ice bags for my frozen food and some fresh food. I asked an old woman( I guess she must be an owner of the store) that I need some ice bags to put on my food. She said that if I put three ice bags, their ice would be gone soon, and she even told me to buy some ice from another store. Also, I explained that I came from LOUISIANA, so food would be bad if I dont have three or four ice bags, but she ignored me. Another worker said sorry to me, but the old woman didnt care. Why do I have to pay for ice even though I purchased alot of food? I dont think she knows how to do a servise job.

With Japan being one of my favorite countries to visit, it was pretty cool to find a Japanese grocery store in town. Its a small store but they have a big selection of grocery items as well as snacks and even some prepared food. They also have fresh sushi grade fish that you can bring home and prepare for yourself. While youre there you might as well pick up a rice ball to snack on or even their delicious cream puff cookies! They also have a punch card for your purchases which will eventually gain you a gift certificate once the punch card is filled. The staff is also very friendly and can assist if you have any questions. Cant wait to go back!

Daido is my regular stop for Japanese groceries; after three years living in Japan, I need some authenticity when it comes to Japanese food. At Daido you can get Japanese cooking staples like daikon and a wide variety of kimchi (adopted heavily in southern Japan), as well as excellent cuts of fish made for traditional Japanese cooking methods. They also have a good selection of Japanese snacks, alcohol, beauty products, and a small side room for books, manga, magazines, as well as cooking implements. I go almost weekly to pick up green tea and some manju. The staff is courteous and bilingual. Highly recommended.

Daido used to be a go-to place for Japanese people since it was the only store that sells extensive Japanese ingredients and perishables. Now, the store has some completions. However, Daido carries something that the other stores don’t carry including 100% soba noodles, thin-cut quality meat, and a wide selection of condiments, etc. If you shop at Daido on weekends, you get to buy tasty cream puffs. The store crews are friendlier than those worked at this place 4, 5 years ago. Well, Daido is still my go-to place for Japanese groceries even after its competitors have arrived in Houston.

This is a great little gem! Its the only purely Japanese grocery store in Houston, to my knowledge, and they have everything Japanese one could want plus more, like anime DVDs and hair products! Their food ingredients are great, and they offer a wide selection of things like dashi stock and bonito flakes. The only thing stopping me from going there every day is the drive! Coming from downtown Houston around 4 PM or so is a nightmare. Id recommend going on the weekends or around noon on weekdays, to avoid massive traffic.

Nippan Daido reminds me of the small convenience stores in Japan that stock EVERYTHING - groceries, cosmetics, manga, etc. Think of Nippan Daido as a very small Japanese version of HEB/Kroger/Randalls/whatever grocery store you shop at in the US. Expect mark-ups on the items, but the prices arent actually too bad. If you need to pick up a non-perishable Japanese item and dont want to buy it online, chances are that Nippan Daido has it in stock. Of course, certain fresh Japanese ingredients can be found here, too.

A small supermarket, tucked away in a strip mall, behind a gas station. Fresh seafood is shipped in from Japan, but be warned, the small selection disappears quickly! Theres a little bit of everything here, from soup bases to toiletries. Lots of items have English on the back, not always accurate, but close enough to give you a clue to what youre looking at (which isnt always obvious!) If you address looking for the freshest Japanese fish, this is where you come!

This is a real Japanese grocery store - store clerks are polite and friendlier than Seiwa few miles away. I love everything they sell, just wish the store was bigger. I frequent here to catch clearance items. The prices are well-marked so there is no guessing. Sashimi and sushi are fresh. They normally sold out by afternoon. I often catch daifuku packages on the counter. Yummy.

Very low prices compared to the Asian sections of most grocery stores. I have to admit that I mostly buy snacks here, but they have a wide selection akin to that of a drug store, with the addition of a decently-sized fish and produce section. Everyone on staff is friendly and helpful, and most items have some English on the label to help with purchase decisions.

I forget this place exists sometimes. They have a nice selection of foods and snacks and my favorite of all being the Ramuné. I need to go more often as I usually only stop by here once in a blue moon. And by that I mean maybe once a year. Its a bit of a drive from Katy but its worth it when youre craving some of the stuff they sell.

One of the only Japanese supermarkets in Houston; just love this place. They have a huge variety of products including some that can be very hard to get elsewhere. I love their green tea noodles and buckwheat noodles which are great with salad :) They have a loyalty card so you can get rewarded for purchases.

This is one of only two (the other one very new) Japanese groceries in town. Usually has what your are looking for and lots of stuff you arent looking for but should probably try. English only speakers are welcome and employees are helpful enough / as they can be.
