The Peddler Bike Shop is a phenomenal supporter of the Austin Bicycle scene. Great selection of new bikes. Deep experience within their ranks of salespeople and repair technicians. It is unlikely you will be able to bring a human-powered wheeled device into the Peddler and they wont know how to fix it. As an example, I wanted to upgrade components on an old Peugeot bike I own. In reality, this bike is probably not worth much. It is special to me, though, so I wanted to invest some money in upgrades so I would be more inclined to ride it. Due to some obsolete mounts, etc. The exotic components necessary to upgrade the bike were going to cost several hundred dollars. New rims suddenly turned into a BUNCH of new components that would need to be installed and the project cost was rapidly approaching the cost of a new bicycle. The Peddler staffer recognized this route was going to be unrealistically expensive for what this bike was worth. He spent some time researching parts and came out with a very good compromise that brought the rim upgrade within budget. This was even after I had agreed to the very expensive route. There are other good bicycle shops in Austin, but the Peddler is my favorite.

If youre looking for a huge chain with all the parts and an upcharge of 300%, dont go here. If youre looking for real Austin people who know what theyre doing, this is the place to go. I had an issue with my bike and there were two options for replacement, one costing $100 more. Asked the guy what he thought I should do, and he said, "Well, $100 is a weeks food, so Id do the less expensive option." Either theyre not paid by commission or they actually care. Took my Kestrel in for a tune-up prior to an 83-mile ride, then took it out for a spin and there was a creak in the bike. Creaks are super hard to diagnose. Called them two days before the ride, and they said theyd put off their other work and take care of it. Made an appointment for the next day, and sure enough, they did as they said. Took off and swapped out every relevant part in an effort to find the creak, all in the same day. Ive been back a few times since for a few other things, and the guys recognize me, didnt charge me outrageous labor charges because I had just been in before, and gave me some great advice. Will definitely go back again for a tuneup next year.

The Peddler do right by their customers. Problems arose with my repairs because a rare part was placed on backorder multiple times. My bike was in the shop much longer than anticipated but The Peddler owner and service manager were up-front about the situation and did everything they could to turn my experience into a positive one. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. They will answer all your cycling questions and will offer you a free estimate on repairs. The shop itself carries a variety of modern and vintage bikes and accessories. The vibe is cool and comfortable and is a decent place to browse. My only nit-pick is that the staff can be a bit pushy with selling accessories/parts. On top of my necessary repairs, I was asked several times if I wanted new pedals, brake levers, tires, tubes, and handlebar tape. However, I cant blame them for trying to make sales. For repairs that I am not able to tackle on my own, I will return to The Peddler.

Every time Im in, there are plenty of attentive staff on hand to help customers. Their service ethic and attitude has really impressed me. If something is not quite right, they work with me enthusiastically to make it right. Sometimes the work they do is so fast I can hardly believe it. Im relatively new to cycling, but they always take the time to explain things to me and make sure I understand while never talking down to me. And I definitely feel like this place, more than any other in town, is about unpretentious staff and customers who understand commuting and touring just as much as racing and off-roading. This is my kind of bike shop. If you ever have a bad experience with the Peddler, I guarantee you the management considers it intolerable and will bend over backward both to make it right and make sure it doesnt happen again.

So you just had a custom bike made for you, and now you need all the special parts to make it complete and just exactly how you want it. The Peddler is the place to go. Ron Belcher knows his stuff. Do you want some esoteric gear hub? Maybe you want some fancy dimpled aluminum fenders to go on you new commuter bike? Perhaps you just want one of those locks that fits in your back pocket. If they dont have it, they can get it for you. When it comes time to assemble it all they have the right frame prep tools to make sure the bearings will run as smooth as butter. You would be surprised how few shops have these tools. Maybe you want some hand built wheels to go with your new bike. These are the only guys in town that will tire and solder the Maybe you want twisted spokes? Ask them they just might do it .

Love this place, really appreciate the level of customer service that the owner brings. There are a couple bike snobs that work there. I have learned to just avoid getting my bike serviced when I see either of the two at the counter. It has gone as far as one mechanic feverishly denying service because he deemed it as unnecessary, which really sucked because I really wanted this certain modification to happen and had the money to cover all the "problems" that he was throwing at me and it just ended with me just saying "Thanks" and politely leaving while covering my frustration with a smile. So if you can imagine that even after that I still like going to this place and I still give it 5 stars (mainly because I think very highly of the owner).

I have been going to the Peddler for about 7 years now. They have kept my old Schwinn Mirada running well despite the abuse that it has taken on the city streets as my primary mode of transportation. A year ago I purchased a new bike for my daughter and the staff really helped us find a bike that fit her well and she has been very happy with the bike. This year it was my turn for a new ride and after shopping around I found that the Peddler is very competitive with other bike shops in the are. Couple this with their excellent service department and it was easy to make the decision who to purchase this bike from. I have had the new bike for a few weeks and I am totally satisfied.

My roommates and I both love this bike shop. The guys are really chill, friendly, and helpful. Paul tuned my derailleurs and shifters for $20 in 15 minutes. One misalignment, one bent, one coagulation, done. I like when mechanics explain what was wrong and how they fix it. Way better than when I went to Clown Dog for a routine check up, left it all day, and received a misaligned bike with a loose seat. Roommates got their tires replaced and handlebars wrapped. One had 30 year old wrappings on her moms bike - they helped her pick a color and wrapped it for her $10 for 10 minutes + wrapping.
