I wanted to add a few more crabs to my little colony and couldnt find anywhere else to get any. Ive had very bad experiences with PetSmarts in the past with hermit crabs and wasnt really looking forward to it... and my gut feeling was right. I was going to be disappointed with PetSmart yet again. To start off with the crabs are not even given water, they are given damp sponges; and the reason? PetSmart is convinced they will drown if given water. Any person of any age can look up basic land hermit crab care and know that crabs can and have been known to stay under water 15-30 minutes without drowning. In the wild (where they were harvested from ) they live on or near the ocean, and they need salt water in their diets to thrive. How on earth could they survive in the wild if they drowned the second they went into the water? Not to mention that they dont even carry salt water mix to provide them with such a basic staple in their diets. I always bring my own container to put crabs that Im going to purchase in. Cardboard boxes dont provide humidity, and a draft of under 60* F can kill a crab in a few minutes. Plastic beta containers and plastic bags give them nothing to hold onto and they crash around in the car. I put some damp sand in a tupperware and use that. The girl that helped me actually argued with me for at least a good 5 minutes insisting she couldnt put them in my travel container. Then to top it all off only 2 out of the 5 I purchased lived longer than a week. I wasnt really surprised by it though, as that is pretty par for PetSmarts land hermit crabs survival rate (not just for me, plenty of other people on hermit crab forums everywhere have confirmed this too). The really awful thing about all of this is that they only carry Coenobita clypeatus (or Caribbean Hermit Crab) which is the heartiest and easiest of any land hermit crab species to keep. Any other store I have been to (PetCo and small non-chain stores) I have always had 100% survival rate. I have both spoken with employees, and written in to PetSmart Corporate and the individual store, and all they do is spout their form-letters, recite what they say is "company policy" on keeping crabs and say that their set up is fine. They never address any real issues or concerns. And the thing is that basic hermit crab care information is so widely available online and is so easy to access that there is no reason for them to provide such a low level of care. I know personally I am not planning on buying anything from a PetSmart ever again if I can help it. Im beyond disgusted and annoyed with dealing with a company that so blatantly couldnt care less about the happiness and healthiness of a species.

Went in to take a look at some of their fish. I usually dont buy fish from them, mostly because I dont think theyre taken care of that well, and the staff know next to nothing about proper fish husbandry. Today I took a chance anyways, and went in looking for black kuhli loaches. First off, the service was eh. I waited for over 20 minutes before being acknowledged. People who got there after me were helped before I was, until someone pointed out I had been waiting longer than they had. Im a very patient person so I let it slide. What happened next had me very upset. The employee who was helping me with the loaches tried scooping them with a net, and after a few unsuccessful tries, started using her hands!!!! It was disgusting, and its very bad for fish to touch them (it messes with their important slime coat). She got one fish in the container, and the second one she actually dropped onto the floor. She dropped the fish on the floor!!! She spent the next few /minutes/ trying to pick him back up, and when she finally did, she put him in the container like nothing was wrong, and handed me the bag. I told her I wasnt comfortable buying a fish she had just dropped onto the floor but she said just bring it back if it dies and I could get a refund. Ive never seen someone treat an animal like that right in front of my face. How dare you let your employees treat the fish like that. I will never shop at PetSmart again.

I love the pets perks program. It really helps with my budget and its free! But I went to take my puppy of 5 months threre to get his nails filed down and they wouldnt do it because he was too rambunctious. He ws a terrior mix si he wasnt a small dog he.was biiiig. My vet always puts a small muzzle on him because he doesnt really like strangers. The staff at petsmart said they could not put a muzzle on him because of his age? I dont get why they cant but my vet can. My vet even said they really could :/ it.would not hurt him in any way. His nails were super long snd petsmart was only place I could find atm who actually filled the nails down. I was less then pleased. I like how you can take your pets in though. The staff seem to like animals alot, although alot of the younger staff dont know much about anything other then the difference between a dog and cat. I asked a young gentlemen there for advice on puppy canned food and his first instinct was to show me what was on sale and cheapest. Thanks for that..but..i wa snt asking what is on sale I want ed what is BEST for my dog. Prices are a little high too. I just go here because I hate walmart

Received horrible customer service..went to purchase food for my 10 year-old dog with a chicken allergy. She will only eat Castor and Pollux wet food. There was not much on the shelf had to find employees in corner of the store 4-5 of them chatting and asked if they had any in the back..was told " probably not". I then had to ask them to please look..2 of them reluctantly went in the back and came out with one case saying that was all they had. Mind youthey charge $3.50 a can for this stuff..I would expect a much higher level of customer service! Will never shop there again. Now buying what I need online for a dollar less a can.

I adopted two female kittens from Petsmart in Abilene 10 years ago. They were from the same litter and to this day remain part of our lives and best buddies. I wanted to write a review because they are having their 10th birthday on the 4th of July and we couldnt be more please that they are in our family! We are a military couple with three children and have moved all around the country..still our sweet kitties are going strong! Thank you, Petsmart for the adoption of these beautiful cats that my children have grown up with..

Went to pick my dog up from being groomed. There were 3 groomers standing back there and not 1 offered to help me.Just stood there. Finally 1 asked me if she could help me .I told her I was there to pick up my dog.About that time another employee walked up and she asked him if he could go get my dog and he informed her that he was going to lunch.I had to leave and come back because they wouldnt wait on me.Worst customer service staff I have ever seen. They are rude, unprofessioal , incompetent, lazy.I will never go back
