Staff is generally helpful and friendly, without being sexist--a big plus for women shoppers. However, their reputation precedes them as being labeled "too expensive"... even earning them bashes against the store name such as "arm and leg" hardware. Thankfully, advertised specials and dollar section help offset that reputation. I would have to say I was shocked when I purchased something there recently that was several dollars cheaper than Lowes! In a pinch, its a good place to get some things quickly--maybe even an occasional bargain--hit or miss there. I know many people who will not shop there giving the reason that they are too expensive, so having had higher prices at any given point can take away years of business from many locals who would otherwise have been regulars. Making a few extra pennies at the risk of thousands of dollars is a really stupid move on their part, IMO. Granted, it is at the discretion of individual shoppers whether they want to weed through the expensive to find the bargains or drive a couple of miles down the road to get everything cheaper at Walmart... and like I said, their staff is friendly. But you can smile all you want and if you sell me junk, that smile can be mistaken for a smirk if people feel ripped off. I would have given M & S Hardware a better review over all had it not been for the extremely disappointing purchase in the paint dept which prompted me to write this review in the first place. Their paint, first of all, is WAY over priced! But I figured I would give it a shot because I thought it must be high quality paint to be so expensive...(after all, that is their claim right there on the can). On top of that, it is crap paint. At about $45 for 3.48 liters (Not even a gallon!), their "Do It Best*Quality Paint*Best Look* Paint & Primer in one" took like 5 coats and couldnt even cover white!!!! The smell of this paint made me ill. I liken it unto rotting garbage and old tires. Boos and hisses on the paint! I get much higher quality paint at Walmart for nearly half the price... so guess where I am buying paint from now on? Ill give you a hint... Not M & S!

The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Yes, you will pay more than a big box store, but have you ever asked for help at those stores? They are a family owned and operated business who help in support projects in our community. When you shop local, you support your local economy. It would be nice to see more people recognize these values and shop here instead of the big box stores.

The only reason they got a one star is because I had to click on it just to write the review. I never met a bigger group of ignorant people. They question why you buy other places and not from them. News flash we are the consumer and choose to buy where we want. If its not from you deal with it. Will never go back. So much more I want to say but I wont waste my time on them jerks.

Purchased an Echo chainsaw there and couldnt be happier with the price and service. Very knowledgeable and courteous staff. They maybe more expensive on some items but I prefer going to a store speaking to someone knowledgeable so I dont waste time on multiple trips dealing with staff that are utterly useless. Great job M + S!

Great store with a great family friendly attitude! Would recommend to anyone to stop in and check them out! Everyone thinks that you can get better pricing at larger chain stores but almost every item I got was cheaper with a knowledgeable staff to boot!!

We were just passing by and needed some hooks to hang pots on comma we walk through the front counter and we were greeted very friendly. He then took us right to right where we needed to go. Cheap fast friendly

Knowledgeable and friendly staff, "Mom and Pop" feel, with big box store selection of products, I assume the owner is a good Christian because there is Christian music playing in background! Big plus for me!
