Friendly, enthusiastic staff combine with a great location to make Gretna a winner. My Story I dug out an MTB I had given up on about 14 years ago, and while it holds very little value to the general market it does hold value to me. The bike went strait from storage to the shop; it was dirty, chain seized, tires flat and in need of either a full rebuild or a cigarette and blindfold. Joe and Craig seemed to take no notice of the condition of the bike, or the fact that it wasnt in the same league as the bikes they sell and typically service. Instead, they hear my needs for it and start measuring. We start with a crankset and bottom bracket. The bike is old, so the parts needed to be ordered and arrived the next day, which is faster than Id expected. I retrieved the parts after work, which put the time at about 6pm. I got home, removed and replaced the bottom bracket and crankset and realized I forgot to get a chain and pedals. I called the shop (which was closing at 7pm) at about 6:45pm asking if I could swing by for a chain, fully expecting to hear that they were closing and that Id have to return during business hours. "Hold on, Ill check with The Wrench.... Yeah, well hang out." I got to the shop as fast as I could. When I arrived, they quickly got the job done, new chain installed and sold me a set of pedals - and they stayed open late to do it. Im hitting the trails today on a bike that hasnt been in operating condition for over a decade, thanks to Gretna. The process was painless and I didnt feel like my bike was outdated, or that my questions and requests were nuisances. These guys went out of their way and earned my business in spectacular fashion.

Their website quoted me an absurd shipping cost for a small plastic replacement mount for my Lupine cycling light (an excellent product, for which they are the North American dealer). Because I really wanted an extra to avoid swapping between helmets, I placed the order, but with a note complaining about the shipping cost. I received an email first thing the next morning with an apology, stating that the high cost calculated by their cart system was in error, and that my order had been shipped free of charge to me in Canada. They even threw in a free package of the extra rubber O-rings I had asked about. This shop appears to be run by some stand-up guys, and from my experience, I would have zero hesitations ordering from them again in the future - and will indeed, if my light ever breaks, which it shows no signs of doing.

I highly recommend Gretna Bikes to anyone in the Lancaster Area who takes cycling seriously and wants to support a bike shop invested in the local community. Jon spent a significant part of a busy Saturday setting up different bikes for me to test. Ive been riding bike seriously for my entire adult life. But bike geometries and options have been changing faster than my knowledge of the sport. My goal on Saturday was to figure out which of the current road setups fit my riding style (race, endurance, commuter, etc). While my primary activity is commuting, Jon helped me to discover that Im happiest on a race bike. Without Jons patience and careful attention to my feedback, I probably would have never considered a race bike. Now we just have to decide which one!

I needed a repair for my 6-yr old German-made Lupine Tesla 1200 flashlight. I emailed the folks at Gretna Bikes to find out about their repair process. Within a matter of hours Bill Gentile of Gretna had already arranged for UPS shipment of a replacement new head; this before even calling me to confirm the shipment. He just wanted to make certain I was taken care of before he left on vacation. My light was years past warranty coverage. Mr. Gentile brushed off that issue, explained that his store maintained spare parts for these these situations. He was simply concerned with taking care of a customer and and not about my purchase date. A class act if there ever was one.
