Ive been to every used video game store between Vancouver, WA and Ashland, OR. Thats not an exaggeration. Im a college professor who teaches 2 days a week, so my schedule is such that it allows me to consistently make day-trip pilgrimages to random places like Roseburg just to check out what the towns used game store has to offer. In all my travels and stops, Id have to say that Game Haven has some of, if not the nicest employees that Ive come across. Im speaking for my own tastes in customer service, but I appreciate being acknowledged when I come in the door...but expect to be otherwise left alone if (and when) I state that Im just browsing/hunting. Ive always had the perfect balance of friendliness/"Ill leave you be, but Im here if you need me" at GH. It must be stated, though, that I find their prices to be a little high...especially when you consider there are plenty of other stores in the general vicinity that are typically cheaper (There are GameStars all over 99 in Tigard, Newberg and McMinnville...straight shots from Sherwood). That being said, Ive found some of the gems of my collection here: Psychonauts for PS2 comes to mind as I write this. Im currently in the process of putting the very final finishing touches on my original XBOX collection, and while I wasnt able to find one of my last remaining wishlist games the last time I was at Game Haven, the young man behind the counter was eager to add my info to their systems Wanted List and promised hed contact me should a copy of the game I desired came in. After conversing a bit more about how ridiculous my search has been for this particular game, he seemed genuinely interested/amused by my plight and made my experience very pleasant. Last fun fact: my poor wife often gets dragged along on my video game store circuits; she is NOT a gamer. More often than not shes unenthusiastically relegated to a corner of a store, buried in her cell phone and twirling her hair while I hunt. GH is her "favorite" store to get dragged to because of 1) the couch near the front door and 2) the dog that sometimes hanging around. A smile instead of a groan when I say, "We need to stop at the game store in Sherwood"? Ill take my victories where I can get them.

Its rare to find a video game store like this, especially in the suburbs. I lived in downtown Portland the last 5 years or so until recently, and after moving out to Sherwood, this is the most interesting retro video game store Ive encountered basically anywhere. I do not doubt its difficult in an eBay age to have a physical store like this, but its very refreshing to walk through though that door. You run into all those old cartridge, arcade machine, etc. subtle smells right as you enter. Its something you would expect from Ground Kontrol and the Portland Retro Games Festival. Its nice to have a store that you can count on being there for that. Everyone Ive run into at Game Haven has known exactly what Im looking for upon request and if a copy is available or not. Picked up a copy of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box which has been really enjoyable the past couple weeks (Mostly I just use it during my commute to take my mind off The Witness). Looking forward to saying hi to you guys soon and to continue scouring through the SNES, DS, and 3DS games.

Not hugely impressed. I know of individuals in the retro games community that have a bigger selection in the rafters of their garages and attics. I really wanted to like this store, my motto is buy local first online second. The store consists of 2 rows or 4 isles of games, most of which are 6th gen(Ps2, Gamecube, Xbox) titles at or above ebay spot value. The decor is interesting, much akin to a childs bedroom or the room I envisioned for myself back when I was a kid. The staff was nice but when asked about item availability or query about a title, showed little knowledge about NES, Snes or Atari titles. Which for a Gamestop wouldnt have bothered me but for a retro shop kinda erked me. I hope for the owners sake that they will train their staff in games other then xbox or wii. Overall I think Sherwood gamers should stick to the online retro games forums for their video game needs. At least until this store get new inventory and gets the seemingly new store kinks out.

I love this store! My boyfriend and I went in for the first time a few months ago, and we asked them to recommend a fun co-op game for us. Weve done this several times now, and everyone that works here has given us awesome suggestions. Sure, sometimes they dont know everything about a specific game, but theyre more than willing to look up anything they arent sure about to make sure that we get accurate information. We also love playing the old arcade games for only a quarter. Basically, Im going to keep coming top Game Haven even if we move out of Sherwood.

This store way overprices all of their games. If youre willing to pay $20 for a $7 game than this place is for you! It doesnt matter if they price match because I would just go to the other place to buy the game rather than give my money to a place that rips off their other customers. Might get more business if they actually used a reputable price chart for their inventory. This store literally disgusts me........

Ive been to many retro game stores around portland and this place is insanely expensive. Its laughable how much they charge for any one of their games. Its like theyre desperate for money since they just opened. Before you buy anything from here, call Video Game Wizards and ask them how much they charge for the same game. Or ebay/craigslist. Just dont go here unless youre prepared to spend 3x the money. Joke.

I like how the staff is very knowledgable, always willing help find what youre looking for, and always willing to strike up a conversation about games. In the time theyve been at the sherwood location, ive been able to rebuild the collection of games i had when was little, especially on the hard to find stuff. They even rebuilt my n64 controllers and they now work as the day i got my n64!

Ive been going here since their days in Tigard. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when they can to Sherwood and are now only a few minutes walk away. The staff is very friendly, the selection is outstanding, and they do great work if one you your past gen consoles is on the fritz. Plus they have some fun arcade games as well. Definitely better than the chain used game stores.

Very well organized, nice people, fair prices, and a fairly good inventory. More original Xbox and Ps2 than older Nintendo and SEGA. They do have boxed Atari 2600 games. Will return when in town.
