Saffron is a fantastic old school hardware store. If you have a problem with a DIY plumbing project their staff can help you solve it, they are experts. Their tool selection is not huge or cheap but its all high quality. If you need a shovel that will never break or an axe from Sweden or advice on setting up a large, low psi drip irrigation system this is the place to go.

Speedy service, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a great location make this a good choice for most plumbing and general hardware items. I would highly recommend you try it out and see the difference between a big box store like lowes or home desperation. The prices are cheaper too...
