Every time we visit our friends in Portland were blown away by the food scene, and we live in the SF Bay Area. This time we stopped at Tails & Trotters for a ham. If you examine labels on ham-like products in most grocery stores youll notice that actual unqualified "ham" is rare or non-existent. The folks at T&T handed over a gorgeous 6 pound cut of cured and smoked pork leg that has absolutely ruined me for any lesser ham ever again. Now I wish I had bought lots more of the stuff they had available. I called up T&T just before Christmas and got easy but detailed advice on cooking the ham. I used a braiser with the lid on at 300 for 15 minutes a pound then top off, glazed, blasted at 450 for 10 minutes to brown and crisp the glaze. Im getting hungry describing it.

I only managed to get here once, just before the fire. Sadly I couldnt wait the 30-odd minutes for a sandwich, but did buy some nice thick British style back bacon.........and oh my word it was brilliant. I am not a foodie and typically find all this "with a hint of XXXX" stuff just passes me by. But you seriously could taste the hazelnuts that the pigs are fed. Okay it was expensive ($8 for 6 rashers), but it was so, so good. Please open back soon!

They deserve their high review rating. This place is beloved by my two roommates who are chefs. I’ve had the pleasure of eating their reuben sandwich. I didn’t even take the time to photograph it. It was greasy, fattening and I could taste the quality. It was slightly heavier fare than I normally go for but I a treat. I will be making it a regular spot for sandwiches in the future.

Update... Raising one star again for their impeccable customer service! Its rare that you get a company that will stand by their product as well as their customers feelings!! On s holiday weekend, to address my needs and concerns says alot. Ill be using my refund towards my next tails and trotters visit and will give them another chance!!

I have been out to Tails & Trotters twice now. 1st sandwich was the Grinder, for a cold sandwich it was delicious. Just today before my departure I went in for a Breakfast Ruben, they dont serve breakfast ... but the Ruben is sublime... wow. Definitely a must try if your in the area, or even if your within 25 miles of the place.

How can I put it other than.......well, you will lick your fingers and the plate and every last morsel. Tails & Trotters make the best Ham ever. The quality and the taste show how much care goes into producing such a masterpiece and it is by far the best Ham that we have ever tasted.

Dropped in on my way to Uno Mas. Tons of great meat cuts including excellent hazelnut pork chops. Good selection of mustard, sauces and other meat toppings. Sandwiches and drinks to go.

Loved these guys since before they got a brick and mortar location. Great product, unpretentious attitude. Pork doesnt come better than this.
