The Next Adventure is my favorite place to buy used sporting goods. So, I guess this review is mostly for the "Bargain Basement", as I must confess I practically never buy anything new there (or at any actual store; I find I can always find better deals online). I shouldnt be telling anyone but the Bargain Basement is AWESOME! Most of the time the prices are really great and although they do (in my opinion) occasionally overprice some of their used items you can almost always find a good deal on something. The staff (entire store, not just in the basement) is always super helpful and friendly and they dont jump on you within two seconds of getting in the door asking if they can help you with something like commission motivated freaks in other stores often do. Andrew, in camping, has been particularly helpful and enthusiastic on several occasions. Also, one time when I was checking out there was this fool in the front of the line who was pitching a big fit because the cashier wouldnt give him cash back for an item that he wanted to return without a receipt (he was perfectly willing to give store credit- and I dont know a single other business that would have a different reaction than that! Even Fred Meyer wont give you cash back!). Anyway, this guy was super obnoxious and, although highly entertaining, did cause those of us in line to have to wait longer than we normally would have. Well, the cashier (whose name I cant remember but he has red hair and a beard and glasses and is always really jovial every time Ive ever been there) gave all of us 10% off for being so "patient and understanding"- like it was HIS fault that the dude in front of us was a moron! To wrap it up- Next Adventure ROCKS. You will not be disappointed!

This place is wonderful. Actually, Its a God send! Ive only been in town for 5 days and Ive been there three times. Upstairs is abaolutely gorgeous. They have all the top outdoors and sports brands you want and need. If youre a "gear freak", youre gonna drool! You can try on all types of boots, browse packs, skis and snowboards, all layers of garment, clearance sections for defenitely affordable rates. Ive gotten some sliding gloves, skating gear, and a long board, all used. Yes, I said used. Because the real magic is downstairs, called the "Bargain Basement", where they have ski and snowboard rentals, and all the used sports and outdoors clothing and equipment! Ive seen barely used top brands like Columbia, Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Sherpa, The North Face, Sierra Designs, and Carhartt, all for killer deals. I saw some pretty torn up ones too, but mostly just a few pairs of pants. Theyve got bicycle bags, sleeping bags, boots, coats, pants and shorts, bicycle tires, coolers, stoves, weights and bars, a yoga ball, back packs, snowboarding gloves, and skateboards. I even saw a unicycle; I wonder If that was for sale? I seriously just love this place, I met Seth, Tony, and Will, and each and everyone one of them treated me like a friend, eager to please. Good vibes, great atmosphere, and all around positive environment to work in, as well as shop at. Ive already planned my next trip back, I need a rain jacket for Portland!

Went in there today looking around for some new ski gear. First let me say this, what they call new ski gear is not "NEW". Their selection of this years new skis were minimal. They did have a decent selection of skis marked as new and in the plastic but they were 2-3 years old versions of newer models and they were priced the same as the 2012 models. How could this be? I asked a sales person and was told that companies dont just have one graphic per model of ski they make, and the skis I was looking at were 2012 with old graphics! A simple google search based on serial numbers told me that I was looking at a 3 season old model that was priced the same as its newer version. I was directly lied to. If you dont know the answer find out for me, dont lie to my face. I like supporting local, but from my experience there are several other very local outdoor stores who value service and repeat business. If you want my advice spend your money at a local store where they actually earn your business not try and lie to get it.

These guys have the best customer service ever. I bought a very well priced ski package, and was going to return angrily demanding that they exchange the ski boots that were too small for me and the skis that were too long for me. These guys listened to my (calmly stated) issues and took care of me right away. they helped me understand why my boot was hurting (i have flat feet apparently) and hooked me up with some insoles that helped me out right away. they also heat molded my boots to my feet, and exchanged my skis for some other ones with only a small restocking fee. Also since the package i bought wasnt going to be ready in time for my ski plans, i got a free rental for the weekend. These guys are very knowledgeable and know what their doing, also when you dont know anything about a particular sport, they explain everything very clearly and without making you feel stupid. these guys are an A+ business, and i will always go back to Next Adventure!

It was wednesday afternoon and it was pretty slow. I dropped my board off to get tuned. It took almost 20 minutes for somebody to help. They told me it would be done by the weekend but put monday on my claim ticket.called monday and not done! They called on thursday to tell me it was done. I picked up on thursday and I would be ambarrassed to hand the finished product/board back to my client. It looked like they did a half assed job and were proud of it. Service guy literally told me he worked on my board for an hour and he felt he did $35 dollars worth of work; the price of a full tune. I would have to pay more if I wanted it to look better...done right! I wont go back! Other very qualified, locally owned businesss that will do work that will make you proud to shop there. Stay away from next adventure! You can find better used gear at goodwill at much better prices and alot better service.

Great selection of gear for hiking, camping, climbing, with some really good deals on closeout items and used gear, too. The staff are great--knowledgeable, laid back, and really work to help you find what works for you, your plans, and your aspirations. This makes a big difference when youre buying a backpack or boots that you hope will be part of your recreation for a long time. Staff helped me adjust backpacks, test them with weight, try boots on an incline, but never felt pushy or like they wanted to upsell. They have a well-organized used gear section in the basement, too. Its tempting to buy things online--who doesnt love shopping in their PJs?-- but stores and staff like this remind me of how great it is to have a neighborhood place to actually try gear and discuss it with people who know it and know the area. Good place to shop and get inspired for your next adventure.
