I have bought shoes form big five camping gear , guns, weight equipt,water gear even snow gear, and all in all usually a good buy , sometimes something turns out to be bad , built bad poor quility or just that one in a million that slips through , no big deal , big five stands behind the things they sell bring it back and get your money back , or in store credit if no receipt , Monday night i bought shoes for my son, the sales guys fit him checked them all that tuesday he wore them to school they hurt he tried one more day and wednesday he could barely walk , I brought the shoes in figured not to bother with reciept we ALWAYS buy here so he;ll find some others and we will use the credit towards those . TODAY after 10 years and a family of five buying our stuff there the assistant maneger WILL desided these shoes less than 48 hours old are not in original condition , {they did indeed have dust and a single pine needle in the tread } no return ... mildly surprised i explained i just bought them they are 2 days old we live blocks from the school no return . never again I will never purchase anything from this big five again why go to a store that does not follow there own policy

Good place to find decent shoes of all types (tennis, hiking books, soccer, etc) and a nice general mix of sporting goods and clothing. However, it is usually understaffed by at least 1-2 people. After trying on a couple shoe pairs today that didnt fit right, had to wait over 10 minutes for the shoe guy who mysteriously disappeared. The counter guy saw me wander toward him and told me he would help me as soon as he was done at the counter. He busted it and got me two more pairs to try quickly after arriving. Upon checking out, "shoe guy" magically appeared again. I wouldnt mind too badly except that this has also happened in the past.

I went in yesterday looking for a firearm that was on sale. From the moment i walked in i was being helped and getting good information about the products in the firearms section. They went out of their way to call other stores that had the item in stock and even though i ended up making a purchase at another store i felt i owed them a good review on their service. So whoever was closing on saturday may 13th they deserve praise and i thank them for their good work and knowledge.

I was pleased they were open after the snowstorm we had recently. Both Dicks and REI were closed early, and I NEEDED a camping sleeping mat that night. That parts a long story, but the short of it is, Big 5 was open when I needed them to be.

A very good selection of sporting goods. I can always find good deals on shoes and get a great sale price. Not always people working that know about the particular sport you may be shopping for, but thats the same at most big box retailers.

Staff was completely indifferent and unhelpful. Once I managed to flag an employee down, he was completely unable to help me. At the very least, he was relatively nice. Still a horrible experience and I have no intention of going back

Was going to pick up a reel that I wanted for a while, the Daiwa Laguna. Picked it up with no prob as well as very friendly staff. Would recommend but the fishing section is tiny.
