Profiled =( My partner was planning (last minute) to take our little boy camping for the first time this weekend though I was going to be stuck at home working... We realized our old tent had lost its poles so I suggested that she take our son with her and go down to our local REI to find a new one that she liked... and I sent her off with my debit card to make into a treat [edit:and so she didnt bring her own card] =) Unfortunately, she dresses a little bit hippie I guess would be the term, and says that the cashiers looked her up and down and then refused to make the sale (something like $355) despite her knowledge of the PIN - in fact, they suggested that she use the ATM or have me remotely buy an e-gift card and send it to her and then she could use the e-gift card to complete the purchase. She tried to use the ATM, but found that it had a two-hundred dollar withdrawal limit. At this point its like 10 minutes until close and I tell her that I am going to call the store and arrange the e-gift card. So, I call and talk with K. who directs me to place the order online after I have asked her if doing it this way will effect our ability to get a refund if unsatisfied and making sure that it will work out so my partner can leave the store with her tent - at this point my number one is making sure that she gets taken care of... ...so, the it turns out that in the interim, and despite attempting to explain what was happening she has been prompted to leave the store by some other employee as it is almost closing time by this point. I tell her that I have arranged things with K. and that she should return to the store. She returns to the store, and then I get yet another call... the e-gift card is not showing up in her email. At this point, Im just kinda done. I suggest to her that she just walk away from what has been a remarkably terrible experience. Well just borrow a tent from family instead. I sure hope that REI refunds my purchase - Ill try to update this review if/when that runs its course. I have been shopping at REI for years, my parents and brothers shop at REI... heck, were an REI extended family... what happened to our nice outdoors store??!?

Generally okay. The co-op membership and the 20% discount that goes along it were mentioned three times. Brought an expensive rain jacket to the counter after looking for the perfect one, but then was told that the discount wouldnt apply because the jacket was on sale. I then declined the membership and the guys attitude changed. Not as friendly. During the sale he got a phone call from someone he knew (he answered with "Hi.") and he had a conversation during the transaction, pointing to the things he wanted me to do (motioned to sign, decide on printed receipt, etc.). Never said thanks or anything else to me after he started talking on the phone. Things ended when he jammed jammed my new jacket into a bag and slid it across to me. I left. Not sure if declining the membership caused him to change his manners, but I thought he should have asked the person on the other end to wait. After all, I was there first. Also, I felt a bit ripped off with the membership discount tease. The three times the membership and discount were pushed there werent any caveats. So two stars for the good selection of jackets to choose from. No points for the customer service or the bait and switch on the discount.

Overall, this is a disgrace to the rei chain. A great store if you want to go on a camping trip ONCE. That way when all of your gear breaks it wont be a problem. But for anyone else this place is kryptonite. The majority of gear is of terribly low quality parts and made in China. They offer some unusual items but other than that they do not stock the typical things. The employees are not able to answer simple questions about the gear and yet stir carry an attitude of complete competence. The brst thing the store has going for it is its located in a shopping center, so if your going with your gf then you can check it out. But dont expect to buy antything.

This was our first time going to REI, and we wont be returning again. The staff was extremely judgmental to our inquiries on products (when asking for a price check) and one refused to give us a price on a backpack until we asked three times because, in her words, "its very expensive". Everything here is incredibly overpriced and marked up, in fact a few things we had seen at other stores for 3x cheaper than REIs pricing. If we hadnt had gift cards, we wouldnt have purchased anything due to the blatant rudeness of the staff.

REI is already a company I really like, and having a store near my home is something I enjoy. The store is always well organized and staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The only reason i give this particular store a 4 is that sometimes they do have a good selection of sizes. It has happened multiple time that Im looking for something in particular and have to end up getting a different item or brand just because they ran out of the size I need. Overall though, I really like this REI store.

Went in looking for help and information about backpacking, and we were ignored. The only employee to greet us ran off before we could ask for help, then we wandered for half an hour trying to get someone to help us. Tried to look at boots, the guy in shoes was busy taking to people who were obviously regulars. Wandered through backpacks, an employee looked at us and went the other way. Im discouraged by this place. I dont think I will be getting my backpacking supplies here.

Fantastic and very friendly. I had bought a pair of shoes but never got to use it for > year. On the 13th month I tried to use it found that there was a manufacturing defect. Against their return policy they took it back just based on my word. That is what I like about REI the mutual trust relationship. I just buy everything from them for the trust they had in me!! Right now heading their to buy more stuff!! :-)

Whats not to love about a place that talks you out of spending money. Took my bike in looking for some new handle bars for a more comfortable ride. The tech, Pam, gave me options, explained the costs, then suggested she adjust the seat position for free. It appears that may be enough to solve my problem. If not, Ill go back, but I like that they suggested a free option first.

As I would expect from any REI, the helpfulness of the staff here was fabulous. My ancient water filter finally ran out of consumable filters (no longer made) and I stopped in here on my way back from the trip where it failed. The sales folks helped me find this and more, and did not necessarily just steer me towards the priciest model around.

This REI store has two levels, but feels small. Just because the two levels have the stairs in the middle. I would recommend parking in the back by the buffalo wild wings and enter through that door rather than from the inner door facing the sunglass hut. You can park closer to the door and there is much more parking.
