This is just unbelievable, I posted a review on here about my experience purchasing a sleeping bag and all the trauma that it entailed only to find out that Back Country Gear deleted it. Any ways I am posting another one now, this time while recoding video of me doing so. I will periodically come back to check on it and if its deleted I will post the video on YouTube, Vimeo, Google Movies, Facebook, Twitter, Digg and any other Social Media outlet I can get my hands on. My experience went like this. I had called up MontBell in order to purchase one of their high end sleeping bags. I think it was around the $700 range. I camp extensively and a group and I are soon leaving for 3 weeks to Tibet next month. I was first greeted by a not so charming young man who was hesitant to help me. Almost made me feel stupid for asking questions about something I obviously understood much better than him just based on life long experience. He eventually handed me over to someone by the name of Scott who told me he doesnt care about my questions and is not interested in helping me. He went as far as to say I should go shop at another company that actually cares. Personally I would suggest you stay away from this company and look for one that actually does care about their consumers.

Ordered skate shoes but they arent true to size so they were too long but tight. I told them I just needed to return them & was assured Id get a complete refund.... "We guarantee your total satisfaction and offer a world-class returns policy. New, unused gear can be returned at any time for a full refund. Used gear must be returned within 30 days of delivery for store credit." I called to let them know I would be returning the shoes & was told I would get the full refund. When I checked my bank my refund was $6.99 less. When I contacted them they stated they had the option to withhold $6.99 for returns.

Ive been to Backcountry Gear several times now, and have been consistently impressed with the quality of gear that they carry. In addition to the great gear the staff has treated me really well, and was very knowledgable about the differences in the gear they carry (even down to the way the fabric in the jackets is made). One of the staff members even talked me into spending less on some gear because it would work better for my needs. Overall, Im a fan! I will go here, and recommend to anyone to go here over REI any day! But dont take my word for it, go check it out for yourself!

I would never order anything from GreatcountryGear ever again. Even 1 star is too good for them. Their selection and priced seemed ok but their Customer Service is horrible at best. I contacted them regarding 2 issues I encountered with my order and they are nowhere to be found. They hide behind a chat thats terrible and so far I have received an email which does not account for took place with my order. They should treat their customers better or they will have no customers if they keep it up.

I absolutely love the product that is available in the backcountry gear store and there store online as well. They have quality items, this is a place where you go to get the best hiking, camping and rock climbing gear. My husband and I have been ordering/buying from backcountry gear since 2012 when my husband went to hike the Appalachian trail. We have never had any issues with ordering. There store staff is very friendly and informed. We are definitely loyal customers to this place.

Even though I dont live in Eugene I pass through there somewhat regularly and Backcountrygear has become my local climbing shop due to its awesomeness. There selection is massive (their entire warehouse is here) and the staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and experienced. I love having an excuse to swing by and pick up something as I love hanging out and talking with the people who work there- gotten great advice on gear and local climbing spots. Love this place!

Beware--- especially if you purchase online!!! If I could give it a score lower than one star I would. Its like they just dont take the time to read the orders. They advertise being helpful and freindly but in reality they are nothing more than careless, illiterate, and/or incompetent. Constant problems receiving incorrect orders and extremely long delays when making returns. Do you really want to pay a high price for poor service? Spend you money somewhere else.

The dudes were super friendly and helped us try on climb shoes even though we are annoying and asked for 30 different sizes in 30 different shoes (WHICH THEY HAD BECAUSE THEIR SELECTION IS AWESOME). Then they helped us figure out which quick draws were the best deal and even gave us an extra discount. Basically, I left the store thinking, "Man, I should write them a good review on Google!"

Ordered some snowshoes, best price I could find. They wrote me the next day and said they were out of stock and expected it in 1 week. Exactly 1 week from the date of that communication, I received a ship notice from their store and the very next day got my package. Great service, great communication and in this case followed up with getting me what I needed as promised.

Good place. Knowledgeable staff, passionate about the outdoors and genuine. If your investing in climbing equipment this THE place in town to do it. Wide selection, a practice wall and rope set up, so you can test equip. to get a feel for it before buying (i.e. Climbing shoes or harnesses). Never purchased from the website before.

I ordered a backpacking stove that they said was in stock over a year and a half ago and still have not received it. I emailed them 3 times they said it was on back order, so I ordered it from another store and got it in about a week. One other time I ordered a sleeping pad and it took them 3 times to send me the right pad.

I dont write reviews very often but this place blew me away. One of the employees (Jon) spent over an hour walking me through different types of alpine and climbing harnesses, and let me try a bunch on. Super helpful, didnt feel rushed or intimidated, and the sale prices are great. Gear shops should feel like this.

Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. If you are a gearhead, I havent found a better selection of pro for my rack in the valley. They are even competitive with online retailers. I bought two D carabiners and set of DMM wallnuts for $54.00 US. Basically got the carabiners for free. Spend your money here.

Dont let the small space fool you. Ask them if you are looking for something you dont see in store, as their warehouse for the website is in the same building. They have a huge stock! On top of that they sell brands that actually care about quality instead of being bought out by Columbia and Northface.

Great customer service! I went in today and asked for information about tents. I told the sales woman that I wasnt planning to buy one today just had some questions and wanted to see some tents. I learned a lot and even got to set a tent up with her. I will certainly come back here to buy my gear.
