Where do I begin.....so my AC is messed up and I decided to take it to pep boys since they are an authorized company through my warranty. Made an appointment and came in Friday at 8am. Dropped the car off since they said itll be a while (figured Ill go to work). Around 12 I hadnt heard anything so I called. Only for someone to say let me call you back. Nothing....called again at 3. I was told again let me call you back. OK again but really call me back. So they called back within 10 minutes and gave me the details. I told them call Averex and let me know what they say. Peter then told me it takes a long time to go through the warranty you sure you want to. If its covered yes I do because I pay for this service. Nonetheless he says OK we have a guy who will speak to Averex. Cool. Well next day I called about noon and guess what....no one has called Averex yet! Once again I get let me call you back after we call. 15 minutes later they call back and say this part isnt covered but the rest is. Do you want to continue because Averex wont cover the other parts until we try that. OK handled that with Averex called back after 20 minutes and said OK I authorize you to begin the repairs on that part. I even asked if they wanted me to pay for the part over the phone. Told naw we just need you to say its OK. Cool. Come Sunday I dont even bother cause Im like they are fixing it. Should be ready by Monday. Leads me to today....called at 7am. Hey will my car be ready. I am then told no we need to call Averex for payment. I asked OK well have you started at least. They said no we havent began repairs. But wait youve had my car for 3 days and youve done nothing! So i said ok im on my up there i will wait for my car to be finished. I get there and im told oh we are working on it now. At this point im like yeah i bet ....an hour later peter comes over and says you owe us $419 (a jump from the original $100). Oh then floods in a billion excuses well Averex is hard to work with, oh weve been busy, oh cant you rent a car. Really! Beyond pissed, beyond disappointed in the service I received. The lack of communication, the lack of training among his employees, the lack of common courtesy to even pretend as if they cared was not even there. Will never go to this shop again. I rather pay an extra deductible with my mechanic. At least I know he will over communicate, give me all the details from the beginning, and never leave me stranded without a car. Thats real service.

Went today for an oil change and AC diagnostic. I set up an appointment the day prior on their website with a login Ive used previously and asked for both services to be completed at 9am. The website says youll be taken to a coupon after setting up the appointment which is not true, I had to search all over the site for the coupon, but fine, whatever. I showed up prior to the appointment and there were only two other customers in the store, neither of whom were at the counter. When someone finally acknowledged my existence maybe five minutes later (Too busy writing their names on their coffee cups), I told them I set up an appointment. The tech pulled me up by my name and knew I wanted an oil change then pre-range me up at ~$44. I let him know I had a coupon for $19.99, he waved it away and said you do the coupon later and made me sign (didnt swipe my card). I told him I had also signed up for an AC diagnostic. He looked at me, no surprise, and said the AC tech wasnt there on Saturdays. I asked why we were able to sign up for the service if no one was there. He said "your appointment came over blank." Soooo I dont know how he knew my info, my cars info, or I was there for an oil change, and I dont know how he answered me so quickly about the tech, but yeah, blank appointments, man, what ya gonna do? My car sat unmoving in the parking lot for 45 minutes. Just before I was going to go ask for my keys back, they took it to the garage. I waited over an hour total while there were 5+ employees working on two other cars and my own, so 30 minute oil change my ass. Then the coupon only rang up as $12 off, not at a flat $19.99 and I was told thats how it works, so I assume thats why he refused to look at it earlier. And on top of all this, another customer heard me telling my husband the AC tech wasnt there, and he told me that he wasnt sure what they told me, but he was getting AC parts replaced right then. So theres that!

After getting the run around from the Pep Boys in Lakeland (6820 S. Florida Ave) for a supposed valve cover gasket that was leaking and that they claim to have changed, I was redirected to a Pep Boys closer to home in Tampa. I was told by the Lakeland location that my valve cover gasket needed to be replaced and I paid for the service. Keep in mind I had never had any indication that oil was leaking prior to this, however within 2 months of having them replace it, guess what, my car started leaking oil and my indicator light began blinking at me. I am talking about quarts of oil were leaking from my car in a very short space of time! So, I try this location in Tampa to address the problem. After keeping my car back in the shop for over 2 hours, the manager, Ken, came to me with some story about a $7 standard oil cap being the culprit! Thanks for insulting my intelligence. First of all, I am pretty sure it is impossible to lose that much oil from just an ill fitting oil cap and second, it doesnt take over 2 hours to just change a cap!!!! I know that they were simply trying to cover the fact that the other Pep Boys either never changed the valve cover gasket that I paid for or they did a really sh*tty job of it! I am appalled at the lies and horrible "service" that Pep Boys delivers. I have been to many different mechanics over the years and this was my first experience being scammed. Beware, Pep Boys does not deserve anyones business. Save yourself the heart ache and trouble.

I sent this email below to Peter on January 20th and never heard back. These guys will greet you with a smile and shake your hand when you walk in but dont be fooled they will RIP YOU OFF!!! I believe management has changed recently and its not the same place it used to be!!! Peter, I feel I need to address an issue during my last visit to your store (1/03/13). I have been using you guys for the past 6 yrs. or so for general maintenance, tires, and repair on my car. I came in because I knew my Mazda 6 had an engine coil go bad. I knew this was the case because Ive had it happen in the past. After your engine light check charge of $44.99 and a high mileage oil change of $57.08 you quoted me over $600 to replace a single rear engine coil. Surprised (because I know the parts cost on these coils) I called an AMMCO shop close to my house to get a second quote. They quoted me $281.14 including tax and repaired my car in two hours with no issues. When I questioned you at the store about the price you said, "I cant touch that". So I guess my question to you is why? Where is your extra cost coming from that more than doubles the price? Ive been a pretty loyal customer to you guys and Im questioning if I should come back in the future. I look forward to your response. Thanks, Mark Hasler
