I bought parsnips there yesterday that had about 1/16th Inch of wax on them. I called to find out how to get it off. They said that is how they are shipped and suggested running hot water on them. Do they really think that consumers want a wax-encrusted vegetables in 2015? What the heck is in that wax? What would it do to my disposal or my body? What if a home cook does not know it is wax and their family eats it? How about buying local produce that doesnt have wax for shipping? How can we change the food mentality here in Des Moines?

This store is so frustrating. Easily 50% of the time they have no half and half to sell on Friday afternoons. Im always told the same thing. "Come back on Saturday morning and we will have some." Im not driving all the way back to that store for half and half. How difficult would be be for the dairy manager of the store to simply make a bigger order? Im sure they will be asked many times between 2PM and 9PM for half and half. Maybe they should run to Hy-Vee and see if they could buy some from them.

They dont have the huge selection of Hy Vee off of Grand, but the quality of meat with better prices along with a great selection of groceries won me over as soon as they opened. People are friendly, they help you with groceries to the vehicle, and I think being closed on Sunday is a nice way to moderate the daily grind for all folks. Plus they are closer to Mr. Donut, Abelardos, and Caseys. Great place, selection of foods, folks, and location.

Love this Fareway. The location is great for easy in/out of the parking lot. NIce wide aisles. Bakery has wonderful cakes and extremely helpful staff. Checkout lanes are usually available without a long wait as they will call for extra help if just one or two people are waiting.

One thing I dont like about Fareway is that the customer does not have the option to take out their own groceries to the car. Even though it is more convenient, I feel obligated to tip and most times I dont have any cash on me so I end up feeling just horrible for not doing so.

I think Fareway has the best meat. I wish the meat cutters would let you watch the way they cut the meat. But you cant because of the table they are cutting on. How disappointing. Fareway should take pride of their meat cutters. Its almost like there hiding something....

The prices are affordable. The staff is always friendly. I have never heard staff having personal conversations and continue to have them while they are you ringing you up. Employees are very helpful and helping you locate items in the store.

Great prices with a decent selection of food. I love how they have a meat counter when not many grocery stores do anymore. They even wheel your cart out to your car and help you load. Its my favorite grocery store. I dont go anywhere else.

I dont get the allure of Fareway. Its tiny, cramped with a minimal selection, and it feels like youre shopping in 1980s small town Iowa. It serves its niche to be sure, but its not my cup of tea.

The groceries are cheaper than most of their competitors, but they dont have much (if any) of a natural or organic foods selection. Still worth going to, especially if youre in a budget.
