I used to love this place, that is until I tried to buy an actual bicycle from them. My first experience was with a base model Diamondback that a friend and I special ordered to get the right size/color for her dad as a Christmas gift. The first bike I received had a gauge in the paint, so I refused the bike, and we sent it back. The second I received, also had a gauge in the paint, so we had to wait again to get it. The last one, still had a gauge in the paint, but we decided to take it as it was barely noticeable. My second experience was when another friend wanted to buy her first new bike. She ended up deciding on the bike she wanted, so they took it back to the shop, checked everything out, and sent us on our way. I went to put the bike on the top of my car, and noticed that one of the tires looked like it was failing and coming apart. We took it inside, and they replaced the tire for us, but installed the directional tire backwards. We went inside again, and they installed it correctly for us this time. My last experience is with a bike that Performance has had in their shop since around March(as its been so long, I forget exactly when I dropped it off). GT wouldnt warranty the frame, but instead offered me a bike on their "crash replacement program". I wasnt happy with this as I had just purchased a new bike from another Bike Shop/MFG a few weeks prior, so I really didnt want to spend money on anything new at this time. I did some research, and found that for 2017, GT was releasing a 27.5+ bike, so I decided that I wanted the Expert model and that the warehouse was out of them until Sept. 23rd. Today is 11/21, and I just got a call that my bike was in. Lucky for me, a friend was in the shop today, took a picture and sent it to me. Turns out its the WRONG MODEL. I wanted an Expert model, they have an Elite. Should buying a bike be such a difficult process? At Performance, it seems that it is.

My husband and I recently purchased 2 bikes from Performance Bicycles on Sawmill Road in Columbus, Ohio; we were appalled by their customer service! When we were looking at bikes, the sales people were not attentive, but we had already researched the bikes online and knew what we wanted. We purchased the bikes, and picked them up on different days because 1 had to be ordered. When we went to pick up the first bike, the mechanic brought out the bike and said “thanks.” My husband asked if they would fit the bike and the mechanic said, “You will need to schedule a fitting and those are only offered Monday through Friday, your sales person should have told you that.” We were both upset with the man’s response. I told the man that we just purchased 2 bike and live 1 hour away from the store; he begrudgingly did a quick fit. A week and a half later I called the store to see if the second bike was in, the sales person said that it was in and ready for pick up. I asked to schedule a fitting, the 2 weekdays I was available there was not a manager there to fit the bike (I guess only am manager can fit bikes). I asked if we could schedule a Saturday appointment since they were unable to accommodate my weekday availability, the sales person said that they would not make an exception. When we went to pick up the 2nd bike, I asked the mechanic only to adjust the seat; his response was “I am not very good at that.” I asked if there was anyone available that “was good at it” and he said “I guess I’ll do it.” The adjustment he did was not correct, but we were so frustrated that we just picked up the bike and left. We spent too much money on these bikes to have received such terrible customer service. Because of the lack of customer service, in the future we will not purchase our bikes and biking accessories from Performance Bicycles.

Went into the store to buy a Schwinn cruiser bike for my wife, she found one she loved, put it on hold to pick it up the next day since we didnt have the bike rack on our car. The store manager who sold us the bike put it on the kick stand with a HOLD sign on it. We returned the next day to pick up the bike, they moved it from the front of the store to the back in the service area. We did a quick check on the bike and noticed that the kick stand was removed. A store clerk came to talk to us and we told them about it and he said if it was on there yesterday it should be sold that way, he went to the store manager asking why they removed the kick stand, apparently all bikes are sold without a kick stand. Its not about the $7.99 to buy the kick stand but more about the principle that we agreed on buying a bike with a kick stand and the next day when we pick it up its removed, it just pissed us off. I asked if they could throw it back in and they refused. So we walked out without buying a $280 bike. I agree with a lot of the reviews here, customer service is not great at all. They do have good prices but you have to wonder what service you can expect after the purchase. There are a lot of other great bike stores around town than to mess with this one.

Great selection of bikes and lowest prices in town but the staff is really hit or miss. The mechanics are either a little "off" or have terrible people skills (ie cant run the front desk and screwed up ringing up a coupon I had). There are only 2 guys on the entire staff that are worth talking to. We bought 2 mountain bikes from them and I was really angry with how they finalized the bikes after sale. One had a loose chain link that caught the rear derailleur and ripped the derailleur out of sync and the rear wheel nut wasnt tightned (while trying to fix the chain/derailleur the wheel fell off). In the shops favor, they did fix the chain and adjust the derailleur without question. The second bike had ZERO adjustments done to make sure it ran smoothly before they let us ride away with them. The front derailleur was way out of sync and had to have the height, angle, and limit screws adjusted, the tension barrels on the shifters werent adjusted, and the chain grinded on the inner cage of the deraileur. Luckily I knew enough about bike mechanics to do this on my own and save another trip to the store and deailing with ther mechanics (Marty in particular).

They had a bike that I wanted, and I purchased it here, along with a membership w/ a credit towards accessories. My first disappointment was when the staff couldnt find the manual for the bicycle...they went online and printed out a copy, which was pretty lame and took forever. They seemed bothered that I would ask for one (it was a fold-up bicycle, so I needed some kind of instructions). My second surprise came when I got another unexpected $29.99 charge on my credit card for a Performance Bicycle membership. I had purchased a 1-year membership, as I was told that I would get a store credit that would more than pay for the cost of the 1-year membership. I certainly dont approving any kind of automatic renewal of this membership - I almost missed this. CHECK YOUR CREDIT STATEMENTS! I never used the credit, but when I disputed the charge for the second year of membership, I was told that I would lose the credit if I didnt use it before cancelling. I cancelled the membership, and forfeited my "credit". I am done with Performance Bicycle.
