If you do not need hand-holding, ego stroking and you dont care what the shop looks like THEN this is the place to buy. D&D has a very large inventory...what you see in his ugly warehouse location is a tip of the iceberg. You know what? Ugly warehouse is unfair. It is just a big old building loaded with kayaks and canoes. It is not carpeted, it is not even well lit, it does not have piped in muzak, fancy posters, point-of-purchase displays, air conditioning or any of the accoutrements one might encounter at REI etc. So if you know what you want (or have a VERY good idea) than D&D should be on your short list. Not for shopping. You go to D&D to buy. Shop somewhere else. Go to D&D as the prices are shockingly low. Some people find Dave to be ...... grouchy? grumpy? cantankerous? Whatever. Do you plan on taking him out for dinner or home to meet your mom? He is efficient. You get what you see; you will not get charmed or manipulated. You will just get a freakin good price. I called 24 hours ahead of time and confirmed he had the boat I wanted. It was in his inventory but had to be brought in from his other location. Meh so what. He offered me several color choices and he even had a blem version available. I made an appointment, told him I would be there at, roughly, a certain time of day. The kayak was ready. I paid for the boat. He carried it to my trailer. I was in-and-out in under 15 minutes. I didnt need to stand around and jaw with him. I would rather be paddling. Or doing about anything else. The price for my brand new unblemished 2015 Dagger Axis 12? Nearly $200 less than other shops in Cinci, Indiana, Columbus, Dayton, Cleveland, etc. I dunno how he does it. I dont really care. I have purchased two kayaks from him. I taken a friend to the shop and he ended up buying two kayaks. My friend had a really good idea what he wanted for himself and his wife. Dave spent about 5 minutes showing us boats. That was enough. Boats loaded on truck and we left. Other than buying used this is the best place to buy a kayak or canoe.

Great inventory. Terrible customer service. If you know what boat you want this is a great place to pick it up. D&D has a pretty impressive selection of kayaks and canoes in stock, and he can order one for you as well. The prices are good enough that you’ll come out ahead by avoiding the high shipping costs of internet shopping. If you need any sort of service beyond simply paying for your purchase and getting it out the door I would advise you to shop elsewhere. As far as I can tell there is one person working at the shop, and he’s not in any hurry to help you. I called about getting a rudder put on a boat he had in stock and was told it would be about a week. I hadn’t heard from him in almost two weeks so I left a message. He didn’t return my call so I called again and was told one or two days more at the most. Three weeks after I had placed the initial order to have the rudder installed I still hadn’t received a call. I finally contacted him again and was told that it would be one or two more days. Instead of apologizing for taking two weeks longer than he originally quoted he just tried to rush me off the phone. I guess I was bothering him. Sensing that this cycle could continue for much longer I finally caved in and decided to just pick the boat up and put the rudder on myself.

We just picked up 2 kayaks from D&D Outfitters. I must admit, after reading some of the reviews about the "rude" owner, I was apprehensive about contacting them. Let me assure you, the gentleman was very nice and knowledgeable. I emailed late Thursday night, he responded by Friday afternoon. I called him to let him know which kayaks i was interested in and by Saturday morning we picked up the kayaks. While we were there, we had some questions concerning roof racks, etc. He took time to look up all the specifications that we needed. He also eagerly answered all of my questions concerning other kayaks that I contemplated purchasing before deciding on the 2 Old Towns. Because of this, I feel that had I called before, he could have helped me through my decision. This place states, No Returns. Research the kayaks and narrow what you can handle and what will fit your needs. This place has the best prices that I could find by far. I searched all surrounding states and all online resources. I will definitely go through D&D Outfitters when purchasing our next kayak, roof rack, etc.

Terrible - Terrible - Terrible and Rude. Buy somewhere else. My initial experiences with D&D were ok - Ive bought a couple of kayaks, car racks, etc from D&D. My last experience was terrible. I was on the fence about 2 kayaks and was persuaded into buying one over the other. He helped me load it onto the car, and when I got home, I realized that it was too heavy for one person to handle on their own. I immediately called the store, explained the situation and that I would like to bring it back and exchange it for a more expensive kayak. I was told that there are no returns or exchanges. I explained my prior purchase history and my loyalty. He repeated no returns or exchanges and hung up on me! Spend your money somewhere else.

Great kayak inventory. It is true Dave is not the best salesman but if you are patient with him you will get what you want. I went in there a few weeks ago to get some deck rigging loops, he told me he would not have any for two months he then walked away. Like I was going to wait that long for some loops. I had to ask him if he had any Deck Rigging Kits I could buy instead. He found a Harmony Deck Rigging Kit priced lower than any online dealer. So I got what wanted at a better price but it took some work I my end to make the sale for his store.

The guy is a bit anti-social, but he does know alot about kayaks. Thats good with me though because I didnt go there to socialize, I went there for help from a knowledgable person. Thats just what I got. The non-specific hours is strange, but I would rather that than for the higher prices as a result of hireing somebody to work there. The no return policy seemed crappy at first, but I guess you would have to do that. The kayak might not be able to be sold for the same price after somebody used it once.

I couldnt have been happier with the advice and help that we received. There were several people in and out while we were there, but we were able to take our time and get the kayak that my 13 yr old daughter wanted. Dave is a traditionalist in his thoughts about kayaking but that helped. I would recommend calling and going by to check out his inventory. (way more than whats just in the "showroom", you just ask if you dont see what you want) We will go back when we get our 2nd child a kayak.
