I went into REI to purchase two pairs of serious hiking boots and one pair of casual walking shoes. I am a member and have had great experiences with REI staff helping me make the right purchase in the past. When I arrived to the shoe department it was fairly busy so I didnt expect service right away. When someone helped me out they didnt seem to care about what I was looking for. She went back to look for my boots and came back to say she didnt have my size. I overheard another staff member telling a guest they didnt have their size, but the store in Cary had their size. No one offered me this information about the boots I wanted to try. I found a few other pairs I wanted to try and another sales associate got the boots for me. I told him I was going off trail for up to 20 miles a days with a pack, but I got no feedback in regards to the boots I was trying with that information so I figure my choices were good. I wound up with the Ahnu Monteras. After getting home and researching the boot it turns out they are only sufficient enough for light day hiking with a light pack. Although theyre comfortable and have ok ankle support they fail for what I need. After specifically stating what I needed I cannot believe they allowed me to walk out with these boots. Having done little research on hiking boots prior to my 1.5 hour drive to Raleigh to go to REI for expert advice I was very disappointed in the help I received. Im going to have to drive back - a 3+ hour trip - just to return this bad purchase that could have been avoided with the right advice. I came loaded with money to spend and serious about buying quite a bit of gear. Im disappointed in my experience and hope this staff can educate themselves on their boots and treat everyone like they are serious about the boots they are trying to buy. I will not shop at this REI again.

This is an amazing store ...everyone should visit even if you are not hiking up a mountain and sleeping in a tent! It has two levels and all the products are neatly arranged so you can see them. Everyone needs a winter parka and gloves...I guarantee youll find yours here. I am not a bicyclist but it seems there is a lot of equipment here. There is a large selection of computer and travel luggage upstairs.

Im in love with this store. This REI is clean, staff is so approachable and friendly, and the garage sale was unbelievable this year. The selection in every department is great, and all areas are very well marked. Id trust the expertise of any staff member I crossed paths with, too. Excellent place for an adventure, both novice and experienced.

Ive been shopping here for several years and am always blown away by how helpful, courteous and knowledgable the staff is. Products are always high quality with fair retail prices. The membership is great. Was helped today by Phil upstairs and Gregg downstairs and was just blown away by how helpful and willing to answer any questions I had.

You cannot go wrong with any of the REIs in the triangle area. All staff are extremely friendly, and patient. I was there one night until close, i couldnt make up my mind. None of the staff seem to mind that I was there and did not rush me at all. I could literally spend hours in the store.

This REI has great service, they take care of their customers and dont make you feel like a hassle. My wife and I had to return a tent that had problems when we unpacked it brand new, they replaced it and let us build another one in store to make sure it was problem free. Great store!
