Like most millianials, Ive put in my time in the retail trenches. So, I dont normally judge based on one bad experience, but three in a row? Now that Ill review. The first time, my mom and I were going out to buy fabric and Mom, who has spent so much time in fabric stores I wanted to be a fabric cutter when I grew up, straightened the fabric for the lady before she cut it. Trust me, it needed it. The lady gave my mom the nastiest look and intentionally pushed it back out of line stating that it was against policy to allow a customer to do that and that she couldnt cut when "the customers hands have touched it" Mmm...okay. Next time I went in there was a line of customers at the counter so I intentionally stacked my fabric on the counter, knowing I needed the same amount of each and would probably be too distracted with my daughter to keep pulling them out of the cart. One assumes that giving the counter worker easy access would make everything smoother for everyone. The lady just stood there, staring at me for quite awhile. I stared back, waiting to see what more info she needed though Id already told her the measurements. "How am I supposed to cut when theres fabric in my way?" Seriously? I suggested she just scoot them out of her way and was rewarded with a huff and jagged cut fabric. Today was the worst. After slogging through their fabric section I brought my bolts to the counter and patiently waited. The lady took one look at the duck canvas in my basket and LAID HER HEAD ON THE COUNTER WITH A GROAN. She then turned to her cohort and said, "She has duck, I cant deal with this right now." Her fellow employee, who I think was the manager, walked around the counter and wrenched the bolt out of my cart and threw it on the counter. I get tough days, I do, honest. Im standing there, 8.5 mo. Pregnant with a 2 year old sitting in my cart drinking my coffee because its the only way shell sit still through the cutting process and I still would have gladly put my own fabric on the counter had anyone bothered to acknowledge me throughout the whole incident. Im shocked they even asked how much I wanted since I was clearly not needed or wanted. My favorite part was when the cutting counter employee who is apparently, offended by duck canvas, looked at my daughter and actually rolled her eyes. Hate kids? I dont care. Just do it on your own time. Its not as if they are tired out from store maintenance as the general state is what can only be described as post-apocalytic. They are "under construction" but as I have yet to see any actual construction, I can only conclude this is simply a way of explaining their perpetual crappiness. Like I stated, Ive worked retail. Ive worked every major holiday and every kind of retail store and I know it isnt easy to always be friendly, but Im not yelling at you, Im not being rude so all least do me the favor of polite indifference. The only bright spot today was the older gentleman at check-out who was slower than molasses in January but kind and helpful which was nice and, at this point, wholly unexpected. This store is lucky its the only fabric store nearby and that their app had coupons. But you know what? The Cary store isnt that far and the coupons work there too. Guess where Im going from now on?

I love Joann, and have spent years purchasing wonderful fabrics, trims, and notions. Unfortunately, I have the misfortune of moving near the durham Joann location. This is absolutely the worst Joann I have ever been to. The staff is incredibly slow and unknowledgeable. There is always a line to check out. This is not a line because the store is busy, but a line because the cashier is super super slow when checking people out and doesnt call for back up. Im not sure if the store is just understaffed, but even the people who are there, are not helpful. Ex. Me: Do you have heat and bond ultra? Staff: I dont know, look over in that section by yourself. (A real quote.) Not only that, this Joann is extremely dark and dirty. The store also always seems to be out of some type of fabric and never has the latest patterns or trims. I am also a student. I tried to get the 20% off total purchase and was told that I could not use it due to a policy of no stacking on multiple coupons. How is that possible with a TOTAL PURCHASE COUPON?? Again, the cashier was unhelpful and just said he couldnt do anything about it. I have decided to boycott this Joann. From this day forward, I will not spend a single cent on this godforsaken store. I will instead go to Hancocks Fabrics, who has much better sales and staff...especially in the Durham location.

This place is awful. I seriously drive from West Chapel Hill all the way to the Jo-ann in Cary because of the untrained staff and lack of cleanliness at this store. I went here for the first time late summer and had an experience in which the employees (all two of them) were so busy badmouthing their jobs that they couldnt be bothered to cut fabric check out customers. There bathroom was so dirty that it scared my five year old who refused to stay inside while I used the toilet (I had no choice I was 8 months pregnant!) The floor was covered in ants and the water was not turned on at the sink- if it was there was no soap or towels. I tried again this past week because I simply didnt have the time to drive to Cary and as I walked in the door, a cashier asked a customer to answer the phone- NO JOKE! Needless to say I waited 45 minutes while the one employee slowly cut, and then twenty in line to pay. The selection is crap, the organization is worse, and there is NO customer service... Drive the twenty minutes to their other location, or simply find another place to go. This place is the worst.

The store manager is HORRIBLE!!! She sighs, breathes hard when you ask questions, always has an attitude and is always ready to leave!!! Some of the staff (Paul) are clueless, and argumentative!!! Im not saying the customer is ALWAYS right, cause we ARENT but if the coupon is supposed to take 505 off the highest regular priced item and the highest priced item is $10 it probably not a good job to argue that $2 is 50% off!!! The store is ALWAYS grossly understaffed and that results in a line to resolve the smallest issue, especially when the manager is called more than twice in 10 minutes with no response!!! POOR customer service from her (Leigh- is her name may not be spelled that way) and Paul. I will say that the rest of the staff, when they are there, is really pleasant and accommodating... too bad for them the management SUCKS!!! If you are in Durham, Chapel Hill drive to Cary or Burlington... avoid this location (Durham) like the plague!!!!!!!!

Disappointing--tried multiple times to sign up for a sewing class, in person and on the phone. No one could help me in store and I was referred to the "manager" (supposedly the only one with the almighty roster to sign up for class) who ignored me, berated employees, then ignored me some more to call another branch or something and get some computer training before she helped me. After fifteen minutes more of her pretending I was not waiting for her meager help, I left. I called later and talked to yet another "manager" who took my name and number and said she would check on the class and "call me right back." Never happened. Found out two days later from a friend who actually managed to get on the roster that the class was cancelled. But they never called her to tell her. She had to go by the store in person to find out. Ridiculous.
