My most recent experience with the Jonannes fabric store in Cary was impressive...and not in a good way! I bought a shantung fabric for a project I was working on, however, the store did not have enough yardage.I attempted to order the fabric I chose via the Joannes fabric website but found that they also, did not have enough yardage. I called the store to see what my options were and I was told that Joannes could special order my fabric. I requested 14 yards of fabric in one single piece. I was informed that this request required a $10 shipping fee because I was not ordering in bulks of 10 yards and that they would call me when the fabric came in. I was told that the even though I am paying for $10 shipping, the fabric could not be shipped to my house but only to the store. This was odd considering I have ordered fabric in the past and Joannes shipped directly to my house. I should mention that I live over 30 miles away...so its a bit of a hike to travel into the store. Anyways, I ordered my fabric over the phone. I was issued a confirmation number for my order. I received a call a few days later informing me that my fabric had arrived to the store. I traveled into Cary to pickup my special order. A few things... 1. I had to wait in a super long line at the fabric cutting counter to ask someone to please retrieve my special order that I had already paid for...annoying. 2. When an associate finally helped me retrieve my fabric, the order was all wrong. I ordered 14 yards in one piece. They shipped 2 spools of 10 yards...annoying. 3. A manager came over to assist and had a super bad attitude and wanted to argue about my order. Obviously annoyed at this point, I asked what my options were to correct the mistake. The manager asked for my receipt, which I only had a confirmation number since I ordered the fabric from the store over the phone. The manager informed me that without a receipt, he could not refund me the shipping fee and that he would need to get in contact with the manufacturer to fix my order....WHAT?! This didnt make much sense to me considering I ordered the fabric and paid with my credit card... Anyways, after a long drawn out argument with the extremely disrespectful manager man, my husband and I finally got our other options explained to us. The manager happened to accidentally slip that he could in fact look up my receipt in the back of the store (he previously lied to us). After an exhausting argument with this manager, we ended up just buying the remainder of the fabric in one of the 10 yard spools for 50% off. I would also like to note that this manager was also dealing with another angry customer along side of me. He took this out of his employees and was particularly rude to the young lady behind the counter that was just trying to do her job and didnt know how to do something in the system. Needless to say, the situation in itself was an absolute disaster and the manager was horrible as well. I will not be setting foot into this store again. Poor customer service and poor special order quality is an understatement.

This store has awful customer service. I went today to return a piece of fleece I had purchased about a week ago. My reason for the return was the fabric color was too light, I realized this once I compared it to another piece of fabric at home. When it was my turn at the counter, the girl immediately accused me of washing the fabric, when she could not get me on that she folded and measured the piece until she had the shortest length, so she could not accept the return. I have never been treated this, and will never return to this store. I will also be advising my friends not to return to this location as well. Please Jo-Ann train your employees better! -------------------------------------------------- Edit As of 3/1/2014 I took my fabric to another Jo-ann location, and was able to return it! This return was pleasant, quick, and easy!

Jo-Ann fabrics is like your bad aunt who buys you expensive but ugly school clothes that you have to wear because your mom makes you and cant afford any others. I sew for a living, and it drives me completely insane when a novice sewer gets ahead of me at the cutting table and starts going through a pattern step by step with the (only one on duty) cutter. Also, I know they dont pay well at these stores, but I have been shorted more than half a yard by ladies who were in a hurry or just didnt know how to cut straight. Nobody in the store knows where anything is, and if its not out on the floor, forget it. Theyve never heard of it and have no idea when they might get more. Too bad the alternative is ordering online and paying through the nose for shipping. Auntie has us crafty girls by the short hairs and she knows it.

Every time I go to JoAnns, the lines at the cutting counter are very long and you have to wait a really long time. The workers are rude and many times, you dont get the amount you pay for. I have actually seen them cut off half inch and throw it away instead of leaving it on the piece I was purchasing. Also, sometimes, the fabric isnt on the roll evenly. When you get home and even it up, it is shorter than what you paid for. They are so tight with every inch of fabric not allowing for things like that. I always prefer Hancocks but now they are going out of business nationwide. :( However, I do like the selection of fabric.

The people were friendly, but be sure you know the exact amount of fabric you need before you go. I was told that the cutters were knowledgeable and can help determine the amount of fabric that would be needed based on the information you provide. This is not true. I had specific measurements for one of the projects but needed it to be increased so I can make 14 and they told me I needed a larger amount than seemed necessary. Even when questioned about the large amount and I was assured that the calculations were correct. Now I have a ridiculous amount left over that I can not use and paid a large amount for this product.

Shopping at this store is so unpleasant. Its always hot and stuffy, the staff is in most part grumpy and overly concerned in listening to conversation on their headsets. I was the only person in line to buy fabric and person that finally acknowledged that I was standing there said, wait, I have see if you need to take a number. I said, "Hello, Im the only person standing here; do you really think I need a number?" I wont be shopping here ever again and its not just for this experience, Ive shopped there numerous times and every experience is negative. No more chances for you Joanns!!!!!

Came in and bought some yarn from a discount bin and discovered that the sign was wrong. The employee told that she was aware that she was supposed to honor the sign, but didnt. It wasnt a huge deal, but irritating. Came back the next day to exchange the yarn because I grabbed the wrong color (the horrible lighting made the color look different), the bin had been moved, but the sign remained. Sadly, we got the same checkout worker, and she was just as dismissive as the day before even when I mentioned it again. Ridiculous. Glad to never have to go back to this store.
