Hunky Dory is by far the most eclectic emporium there is. Many cool things to be procured. Out of the half dozen or so record stores in the area, they have the most diverse collection and very very clean records. If you like vinyl, it is impossible to walk in the store and not find some records to buy. Their records are all pretty fairly priced and affordable. They also have a very nice array of glass pipes and tubes etc... Lots of hand-blown and local glass, vaporizers too. If you are into disc golf, they are an authorized Innova dealer, the only one in the area Im aware of. There are tons of hilarious t-shirts and unique clothing items and accessories. The store is dog-friendly which is cool. The best part is, the staff are very laid back and friendly. I always feel welcome walking through the door. I walked away today with 2 great records I really wanted at a steal of a price, which made my day. Also, every time I go in they have brought in a couple hundred more records to peruse through. Overall, a fun and fantastic store with a little bit of everything, and something for everybody.

As an avid record collector and new to North Carolina, I was looking forward to going into Durham and checking out this record store. I brought my 18 year old son with me, he happened to be looking at the glass section. I was looking through the albums, deciding what albums to buy (I was less than a third way through and already was thinking of purchasing 3 to 4, so this would have been a very large purchase if the remaining selections stayed the same). The person at the store went up to my son and asked how old he was and, he told him and then asked for ID. He did not have his id with him as both of us are needing to get NC drivers licences. The person then told my son to get out, without consulting me at all. We both left without purchasing anything and have no plans of returning. I am sure there will b more record stores to find in the area where we are treated with respect.

I love Hunky Dory! This store has a great selection of tobacco smoking accessories, t-shirts and vinyl LP’s. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I mainly go there for the used Vinyl. There is always a great selection. I’ve been collecting vinyl for 15 years now and have noticed that in most stores you have to thumb through 50 albums of crap to find the good stuff. At Hunky Dory I can usually find something new and exciting within the first few minutes. Even better the owner frequently posts new arrivals on their Facebook page! –All in all a great store with great merchandise- very reasonably priced. I make it a point to go at least once a week.

One thing that makes Durham so great is how each store can be uniquely different. Ive been shopping at Hunky for many years. The owner, his coworkers, and Brew are wonderful assets to the community. Hunky offers some of the best trade in prices in the Triangle. As a used record store predominantly, I have always been able to find something interesting and reasonable. Whether they are fighting for continued free parking in Durham, hunting down a record, or advice, they have suited my needs and appreciate their Durham pride!

Really great vinyl selection (with some hard to find stuff). Good prices and they take really good care of the records (everythings in outer plastic sleeves). They also have a cleaning machine (which I have yet to try). ...staff is friendly and helpful. I cant speak for the other stuff they carry, but its worth going for the vinyl alone. Edit: Ill also add that theyre one of the more expensive places in the triangle (that Ive found)... and the quality has gone somewhat down.

Hunky Dory is a unique retail space located on 9th. Excellent selection of glass/smoking accessories at reasonable prices. Owner is very friendly and extremely helpful. I no longer shop at any of the other headshops in the RTP area: Hunky Dory has me completely covered. Major plus: Brew, the in-store Labrador. :)

Hunky Dory is the best store of its kind in this part of NC. They have an awesome selection of hilarious shirts, all kinds of music and beautiful glass. The guys that work there are personable and knowledgeable. I tell everybody I know about this place and would definitely recommend it!

It should be specified that this is an almost exclusively old record shop. Good luck finding anything new, even from respectable artists. Im sure the "tobacco" side is a big draw for some, but the record selection was underwhelming. The store dog is a sweet-heart though.

Hands down the best selection of used vinyl Ive seen. Well curated. I like how they give customers first crack at the good stuff instead of the internet. Prices were very fair and better than online. Will be back to trade for a vaporizer - but dont tell my wife.

One of the coolest shops with great prices and great staff. Been there several times. Their vinyl selection is awesome. You can tell the owner works hard to carry a full stock of the latest and best quality tobacco piece products. This place is awesome!

Staff is always friendly. I love that they talk to regulars and ask what things theyd like to see in stock. They have a nice selection of records and local glassware for pretty reasonable prices.
