Although the Red Hook Natural Foods store appears to have an appealing selection of natural foods and products, I was sadly disappointed in the service. I am a girl in my early 20s and I walked into the store with two of my other young female friends just to browse. We were not greeted by anyone, which wouldnt have been a problem except that the lack of greeting was followed with a series of extraordinarily hostile glances from the gentleman who was working at the counter. I assumed that I was misreading his intentions because I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so we kept browsing and enjoying the store. After about 15 minutes he walked over to the stereo and raised the volume to an uncomfortable level. Once again, I assumed he had no ill intents in doing so. It wasnt until we were leaving that I became thoroughly offended. As were were walking out the door I unexpectedly stopped to kneel and read a poster on the bottom of the bulletin board. My friend turned with the door still open (seeing as we were literally walking out the door) and asked what I was looking at. Not fifteen seconds went by before the man at the counter turned (in the midst of helping a customer, I might add) and screamed "SHUT THE DOOR!" while glaring and gesturing rudely. I was thoroughly disconcerted and looked around and he proceeded to shout again and make increasingly hostile and angry gestures in our direction. Now, I understand that air conditioning is difficult to manage on hot days and that energy efficiency is important, but the door was not held open for even a minute before he became infuriated, and no customer (regardless of age) should be treated with such incredible disrespect. In addition, he had behaved rudely prior to yelling about the door and obviously didnt want us to be in the store. Perhaps this had to do with our age, or maybe it was the fact that we were obviously just looking around for the fun of it, but regardless of his reasons I was embarrassed and incredibly offended. Although I would like to support that local business and would be inclined to purchase those products, I will not be returning to the store. I sincerely hope that he is not as rude to other customers as he was to us.

This is the best food store around. They are the only folks who know to store raw nuts in the fridge and sell delicious, fresh mushrooms loose and with paper bags for storage. All of the produce is top notch. They also have a great selection of artisanal cheeses and meets such as DArtagnan duck breasts and locally made sausages. Their prices are very reasonable for the amazing quality and thoughtful selections.

My favorite health food store. Great selection of all organic and health food. Terrific staff, friendly and knowledgeable owner. Have been going there for years and if there is something I need, they are always willing to special order. It is always a positive experience and I look forward to seeing what fresh, seasonal , local produce is available.

I love this store! They re so helpful and knowledgeable about supplements/vitamins/homeopathic treatments - which can all be so confusing. They also have ordered for me something I needed that they didnt stock. Good selection and especially good choices in gluten-free section and bulk section where I buy teas, spices, herbs, etc.

Love Red Hook Natural Food...might not be the biggest selection but what they have is top quality. Lots of gourmet items that you might not find in a health food store. Prices are the most reasonable in the area. And Michael, the owner and the staff are helpful and friendly.

Good selection of everything you need plus extra special choices, e.g. an especially good selection of olive oils. Give them your support and business, this is a great thing for Red Hook!
