To start off I want to express that I am a very level headed individual who to this point has not reviewed any business in a negative way. My experience at Benson’s Gun Shop has driven me to express myself so that others do not have the same negative experience that I did. In early December of 2012 I entered Benson’s to simply transfer a firearm into my name that had been sent to Benson’s for me. Upon entering I stated my business and was kindly asked to wait to speak to a gentleman who was assisting another customer. I waited a few minutes and had no problem waiting. Once this person was available he called me over. Before I was even able to state my business he began to speak to me loudly and condescending regarding this transfer, stating that there were two problems. The first problem referred to high capacity magazines, which the firearm did not have and the second was in regard to the condition of the piece. In his apparent “expert” opinion this firearm was in new condition and due to that the transfer fee was three times as much as previously agreed upon. In short the owner decided to honor the agreement and I happily received my firearm and left the store. This interaction however has led me and every firearm enthusiast that I know to no longer shop at Benson’s or their affiliated range in Medford. People such as this salesperson aide the negative stereotype of gun owners as elitist bullies who feel they are an authority over others and I will not support an institution or business which allows and supports such behavior. I along with the rest of those who I know will shop elsewhere; I encourage all those who read this to do the same.

FIRST OFF: Based on the previous reviews i can see why LIers have the reputation they do around the country. You sound like Yentas who diddnt like the perfume your nail technician wore during your pedicure. Im sure your pink .22s have all the finest accessories. Its a shame the people that have come out of the woodwork to buy guns because they love their video games. anyhow.... Ive been to/bought from several gun shop on LI with the exception of a few ive been meaning to check out. Bensons was one of those that due to where i live was a bit far to visit but after making phone calls looking for rare ammo (7.7 Jap) Bensons was the only one that had it. I decided to take my old Jap for a ride and check out the place and see if they could learn-me anything about my little piece of history. First off the store is very nice and their selection is worth the rip if youre a window shopper. Second when i told them that i came there for the hard-to-find ammo and brought along the rifle with me and had a few questions, they completely obliged. The gentleman i dealt with not only knew the complete history of my rifle, but took the time to tell me and show me things i never knew and gave me the complete run down of mine and its condition and market value. I wholeheartedly wish i lived closer to this shop as it would easily be my go-to fun-shop. I hope people do not take these other clowns reviews serious because regardless of what anyone hairstyle is or breath smells like in the place, they know their stuff.

I am new to the sport and had many questions that were simple and not dumb. The guy behind the counter, big fat and bald was really excited at first because he thought he was going to sell a newbie a brand new ar with a $250 scope. after about 10 minutes he began to ignore me, acted like he was watching t.v. behind me or maybe the other guy was signaling to him to blow me off....whos knows. I had questions and he ignored them. I dont know what type of people usually shop there but I know that I dont thrown thousands of dollars out for FREE especially when I dont know exactly what I am buying. The place was completely empty and the guy says to me "if my boss was here right now he wouldnt tolerate any of this" So basically he was trying to force me into buying a really expensive gun. YEAH Right!!! I am in the market to buy the "right" rifle and looking to spend over $1500 but before I drop such a large chunk of change I need to know that I am buying the correct gun for me. They have the worst customer service, cocky, arrogant and pushy. I was really blown away that this guy was telling me that the boss would KICK me out for asking questions about a really expensive gun. If that is the case I am taking my business elsewhere. They will NOT have my business. I DO NOT recommend them for anything. STAY AWAY from these guys! BUNCH OF JERKS

I just purchased a rifle from Bensons, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, I didnt see anything that would deter me from doing business there again. Prices were reasonable for the most part, it was cheaper to buy my rifle in the store than buy it online and have it transferred to another FFL who only charged $30. Some things were way overpriced, for instance an old Russian surplus Nagant revolver that could be had for $90 online, was $250 there. Other firearms were cheaper than the best price I could fine online. As with all expensive items, it pays to shop around first. Ammo prices were a bit high on some cartridges, others more reasonable, you couldnt really do much better shopping online unless you were ordering in bulk. My one big complaint would be the 25% transfer fee; on an inexpensive rifle it wouldnt matter much, as most other places charge between $30 and $60, but on an expensive gun the transfer fee would be a deal breaker, and make me go elsewhere. Again, on both days I was there, the staff was nice and helpful, and I never heard them giving anyone wrong information or being rude. Maybe the days I went were good days. I know Ill probably be back soon to pick up a few more things and some ammo, hopefully I have none of the bad experiences that some reviewers seem to have suffered.

Im fairley new to guns in general. I went online to do some research about guns and where I should buy one. I read all the reviews below which are all negative pretty much and went to Benson expecting the worst. ( They are right up the block from me.) I walked in there not knowing anything and was treated great. The gentlemen that helped me was very polite and new what he was talking about. No one was rude at all. Dont listen to half the bull you read. Not many people write a review when there happy. Just if there grumpy and have nothing better to do. Only complaint I have is there always busy. ha. But that isnt really a complaint at all. The price I bought the gun at was better then any of the prices I saw online as well. I walked out of there with my first firearm within 30 mins. They showed me what I needed, how to use it, recomendations, and more. I will be going there more in the future.
