Rick, the proprietor of the shop, is very friendly and greeted us right away when we entered the shop. After living in Independence for many years, we actually FORGOT that this place existed, until it showed up on a Google search for local bike dealers. We went there yesterday (July 18, 2012) to check out the place and pick up a few incidental supplies (handlebar tape and a couple of inner tubes). We will definitely return. A huge plus is the proximity to our home. Itll be nice to patronize a friendly local business, rather than having to drive to bike shops located in other municipalities in the Kansas City metro area. As an added bonus, Rick sponsors two weekly bike rides every week during "riding season." Both start @ 1830. On Mondays, theres a faster-paced ride (~20 mph) for intermediate to advanced riders. On Thursday evenings, theres a slower and easier paced ride (Rick calls them "Sleasy" rides -- for slow and easy). A typical "Sleasy" ride is a leisurely ride from the Independence Square (where Peddlers is located) to the Englewood shopping district in Independence, and back to the shop. During Sleasy rides, you ride as a group and no one is left behind. After the ride, many riders gather for pizza and a drink at Square Pizza on the Independence Square. Some riders even hang around for the free outdoor family movie on the Independence Square after that. I will definitely be patronizing this local business a lot more, now that Ive rediscovered them! Hours: 10 am to 6 pm M-F, 10 am to 4 pm Sat, Closed on Sunday.

I purchased a custom mountain bike from Pace Bicycle Haven several months ago. I couldnt be more satisfied. Mark took time to discuss my individual cycling needs. Customization included proper dimensions for my build, the number of speeds for my purposes, and a perfectly comfortable seat. The seat and handlebar heights are adjusted in such a way that there wont be any headaches from watching the road ahead. He went over the pros and cons of various tyre sizes and widths and how they perform on different surfaces. We talked for several hours as Mark related some of his riding experiences in several states. His knowledge of cycling history is remarkable. I even learned some tips on riding technique. He showed me the proper and secure way to lock a bike and the proper fitting and use of a helmet. The day I went to pick up the bike, we talked for about an hour again. You will find him quite knowledgeable and articulate -- and with a keen sense of humor. You wont feel gouged or sold something you dont need. No fast talking or pressure sales. He has a very down-to-earth nature. After my visits with Mark, I feel I have attended a seminar. You will see what I mean.

Was having horrible arm and shoulder pain riding my bike. Went to Peddlers where Rick told me I probably needed an extension, but he wouldnt sell me one until I brought my bike. I came back with my bike and he measured to get the right extension and right fit. I purchased a pair of handlebar extensions as well and have NEVER had a more enjoyable riding experience!!! Rick could have pressured me into a sale right off, but took the time to get my bike fitted correctly and sell me the right product. Absolutely FANTASTIC service and GREAT quality products!! Price was MORE than competitive!!! Will ALWAYS go here for my biking needs!
