I am a Knitter and Crocheter and, because there arent any yarn/craft stores near where I live, usually order my yarn and needles/hooks online. When I travel I always try to visit Local Yarn or Craft Stores to see if they have anything interesting. Visiting this Joanns store I was a bit surprised at their small selection of yarn. It took up one very short aisle and mainly offered the same yarns that I could get at the local Walmart. Only the prices were higher than Walmart and the color choices were very limited. This is summer and I expected at least some bright colors, but the Joanns shelves looked like they were left over from last winter, all grays and blacks and dark brown colors. Im also still in search of another 9" circular needle for my socks. While Joanns had some needles and a few crochet hooks, they did not have any 9" needles at all. Again, the selection was actually better at Walmart. I asked a gentleman about sock yarn. Turns out he manages the store and his exact words were "I dont knit or crochet, so I dont know what I have." Turns out they had two little bins with Sock yarn, both Patons Yarn. One in a red, gray, black blend and one solid black. Both of them at least $2.00 more than I would pay for them online. I also looked at other craft items in the store and the selection of beads to make jewelry and basic items for floral crafts were just as poor.

A Private User

I have gone to Joanns for years, though only because they are one of the few fabric stores around. However, after recent experiences I will NOT be a customer of their store again. The service was not great...it took almost 20 minutes to get fabric cut and another 15 at the checkout line. Then after all of that waiting, I was unable to use the 40% off coupon because the fabric was on "sale," which to Joanns means it was a dollar off the price. The store marks fabric down by a dollar or two, so that you cant use a coupon (the one reason I even went to the store). Im not saying this particular store was worse than any other Joanns, but simply that the company needs to rethink how they serve their customers. I am not impressed and will find a small store that treats me with respect and wants my business.

Ive never had a great experience at the Crystal City JoAnn. The people that work there are not very nice and seem caught up in their own drama instead of taking care of their customers. I travel monthly to a different state and prefer to shop there always have good service. In state I now travel a half an hour north if iwant to go to Joanns because I get better service, then the one that is 7 minutes away.

The store looks much better than its former self. Bright lights+wide isles+somewhat helpful workers. The prices+ inside this little nook are over the top by an average if 3-15dollars . the ideas for work shops need a revisione.

Really great staff, very helpful and attentive. All seem to be older ladies (at least in the morning) and all are very informed about various types of crafting and sewing work.

You can find somethings here that arent elsewhere. They are otherwise a small craft store with nothing spectacular about them.
