I have had work done at 3 different shops in Michigan and this one by far takes the cake on being the worst place I have ever visited. I only came here because I had a gift card and I greatly regret it. After having to sit in the shop next to the copious amounts of reptiles for an hour and a half after my scheduled appointment so the supposed "owner" could take a smoke break, he was short and snippy with me and refused to take my consideration into my tattoo and only wanted to do what he wanted. After arguing with him he did my tattoo and i immediately saw a flaw where it looked like my skin had been messed up and he casually brushed it off like I was fine. Probably not realizing that this was not my first tattoo. Here I am more than a week after a simple 30 minute piece that has not healed and is more than likely infected in some way. Needless to say I would not EVER return nor recommend this shop to anyone. AWFUL.

Most recent experience was an amazing, detailed, thoughtful piece that Ed, the semi-retired owner pulled together to get several elements in a small design without sacrificing simplicity. Eds intuitiveness about what I was going for was perfect, and I was surprised with art way better than what I had originally envisioned. Love the shop, love the people, cant wait to go back to "meet" the owner--quotes because I meet him when he was an artist there before taking over the business. Got some peircings there twelve years ago, shouldve gone back for my first tattoo, but was too far away. Looking forward to going back for the next one this week. Love the work, love the genuine friendliness, love the feel of family tradition down on S. Washington!

I went in for a script tattoo. It was very personal to me, due to i wanted it done in someones handwriting. I had Kyle as my artist. I was a little nervous about it (considering i wanted the handwriting done). Kyle made me very comfortable and helped me figure out what exactly i wanted done. He was very professional and made my experience very relaxing. He nailed my tattoo and i couldnt be any happier. I will be going back for more work by him. I highly recommend going to Kyle for any handwriting you want done. I cant wait to go back!

Not a good experience. I went to get my belly button pierced here. They used the wrong jewelry when he pierced me and it didnt heal right at all. Turns out it was probably infected even though I did everything the guy told me to do. Id find somewhere else to go. Im going to get a second tattoo soon and even though I now live around the corner from this place Im definitely not gonna risk going here. Its convenient but Im definitely looking for somewhere else.

Had the artist Josh draw up my tattoo a month a head , he told me to come in on my birthday for the tattoo at 2 pm then changed my time to 5pm which couldnt happen because I had plans for my birthday then the day after I called and asked if I could come in that day they saId yes and that he would call me back in a half hour to tell me what time, never called back I went there and it was closed. He has not messaged me since, they suck at communication.

I love this place they do great work Josh did my mom and me so beautiful he is a wonderful artist my mom got a coverup and people cant tell its a coverup and the people are welcoming I will recommend this place to anyone looking for good work. Now they place looks like a tattoo place when you think of a tattoo place but dont get stirred away they do beautiful clean work.

I cam into the shop for my first tattoo. It was a good experience. Zander was patient. With me and explained care throughly, and made sure the end product was exactly what I wanted. He also explained any pains I was feeling while he was tattooing me(I choose a difficult spot) , which helped ease my anxiety. Would recommend and will come back for the piercing I want!

I went in for a memorial tattoo for my mom, while my best friend got the same thing but for her aunt. Kyle was beyond amazing! The final product turned out better than I expected it too, and he was very patient with explaining to us everything (due to it being our 1st tattoo). Very clean, and friendly shop. Would recommend going here for both piercings and tattoos!

Weve been to Royal Oak Tattoo twice now. First visit was on the recommendation from a friend, second time was based on how satisfied we were with their service. Josh was nothing but accommodating and thoughtful to our design wants. My wife and I plan on making him our go-to artist for anything we get in the future. Would definitely recommend.

Had my conch done yesterday, and it was a great experience. Im in love with this piercing and plan on going back to this place for my next ones. The atmosphere was great, the people made you feel comfortable and my piercing looks awesome. I would definitely recommend - at least for piercings. IDK about tattoos; I didnt see any of the work.

Recently visited this shop and was inked by their new guy “Doug.” Though he may have limited experience and is young, he is very talented and did a fantastic job. Im sure he has a long career ahead of him in the world of tattoo. I would surely recommend him and will be returning in the future for some more.

After having a bad experience at another place, I visited this shop. While I wish it had a more private atmosphere, I cant argue with the work. The piece I got looked exactly as I wanted it, it was done quickly and without any issues. If I still lived in the area, I would definitely go back again.
