Dessert Oasis has come a long way since it first opened up shop on the 2nd and Main - theyre now near 4th and main. When they first opened it appeared that only the young "owner" knew how to pull and steam a good latte. He was the only person capable of latte art, which I use as my standard of a good coffee shop. Everyone else, including his mom who I think used to work there and maybe still does, did not know how to steam milk and didnt seem as dedicated to the art of coffee. Now he has more people, if not everyone who works there, trained on the art. The new location represents a more proper "hipster, free-range, coffee shop" and has more cohesive and contemporary decorations - the last shop had fake palm trees in it if Im not mistaken. At any rate, Ive gone here at least three different times since its moved to the new location and I love it. The consistency has drastically improved while some of its original trademarks, like offering cheese cake, have remained the same. It is one of the few, if not the only, one of its kinds in the area. Otherwise for similar free range, hipster style coffee youd have to hit up Midtown Detroit, Plymouth, or possible Royal Oak, though I havent found a good hipster coffee in Royal Oak just yet - and yes, Ive tried Bean and Leaf, its mediocre and horribly inconsistent.

I always go to dessert oasis for lattes and dessert. The staff and owners are always nice that is until its time for closing. Last night a friend and I were having lattes and cheese cake and talking when one of the owners (the wife I believe) comes to our table and and asked if we wanted our cheesecake to go? We said no thank you she said because we are closing. I kid you not it was 9:59 and they close at 10 I said oh okay she took our lattes that were a little under half full and our cheese cake away to discard and went in a room upfront and turned off the lights with maybe about a dozen other people there. I couldnt believe how rude they were about getting people out of cafe. I understand they have been there all day and it is closing time but there is a proper and more polite way to ask people to wrap up and make there way out. After that experience I most likely will never go there again.

If you like good espresso this is not the place for it. Ordered a double shot, extremely under extracted and sour. Small latte completely masked the coffee flavor. Bought a bag of their "fresh roasted" beans, lady at the register could not offer any information about them. Could not pull decent shots at home with their beans. Tried different temps, different doses and yields, even let the coffee beans rest a few days. Overall not recommended for a coffee snob. However the atmosphere was very good with live music and friendly "baristas". If you are not a home barista I can see why many people like it. If decent espresso its what you are looking for, look elsewhere.

Their wifi has a whitelist which prevents you from going to anything other than their pre-approved list. They approve of Google, Facebook, Apple, and Fox News, but not (according to some mild investigation) NYTimes, The Guardian, Reddit, Yelp, Imgur or even my own personal servers (cant even check my email!). The employees have been nice, the coffee was O.K. But apparently the owners are luddites or fascists. That I can look at FOX News but not the NYTimes or The Guardian would suggest something. Fascist Coffeeshops! Whatll they think of next? EDIT: They mustve finally reset the router, as it seems to have cleared the problem at least a little...but, wtf?

We come up to Rochester, MI a couple of times a year as we do volunteer work for Leader Dog for the Blind. While we have walked the quaint streets of downtown Rochester, we have never stopped for a coffee. Luckily this time we did and I could not be happier! A far cry from the hustle and bustle of a Starbucks (and not as costly), Desert Oasis is a coffee oasis that will not only quench your coffee craving, but relax your soul! Comfortable as a living room, tasteful as a small art house, the customer service is outstanding, the coffee delicious and the experience excellent! A perfect morning or afternoon stop for a breather or even meeting with friends!

I brought my sisters here because we heard so many good reviews about the cheesecake. The vibe there is super relaxed and hipster. The service was very good. They specialize in cheesecakes and they have several great looking flavors. We were stupid enough to buy 4 of the same flavor instead of getting one to taste. Good God. 1.The taste of that cheesecake is 90% oil. 2.It had NO SUGAR 3.It was WARM. 4.The "Oreo" is probably not even real Oreo. Kroger cheesecake is 100x better. 5. IT WAS WHIPPED NOT DENSE OR CREAMY. 6. The whipped cream is so oily We did not try the coffee or lattes but we will never return. Omg Im still gagging.

Ive decided that today is the day I finally write a review for this place because of the service I received this morning... This is one of my most favorite places to go for coffee and goodies. I came in today after a long morning for coffee and a cookie. I dealt with some of the kindest most genuine baristas Ive ever ordered from. Our barista was so nice.. he designed tiny hearts on top of the cream in our drinks, I feel like a princess right now. He even gave us an extra cookie! My faith in humanity feels completely restored, I feel so refreshed and ready for the day ^.^

I had a unbelievably rude encounter with a barista who threw away an old coffee cup I was sketching while waiting for my friend. He grabbed the cup I was drawing, said they dont allow outside food inside, and threw it in the trash. I would completely understand the policy except he didnt give me a moment to explain I was just drawing and completely dismissed me. Everyone around me was just as surprised by how abrasive he was. We still got coffees when my friend showed up, but nothing about the customer service would encourage me to return.

Great coffee house. Absolutely wonderful space to spend some time relaxing. They have a small stage so that you can check out local musicians while you sip delicious hand-poured coffee. Matty was my barista. Hes incredibly friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all of the different types of coffees offered. He helped me find my morning zen with some Burundi Gishubi Natural. Im new to town and was treated as if I had lived here my whole life. Looking forward to my next visit.

The place has gone down sadly. And like the old Greek saying, when a fish rots it rots from the head, the management is a big part of the problem. 1. The drinks are lukewarm, 2. There seems to be a problem with the heating, since there is very little ventilation. 3. Added to that, I was sitting at a table for four and the owner came up to me and said, he wanted his friends to sit at that table since they were a group of four and asked me to leave that table.

First place Ive been to that has vegan options available, was very happy with that. The atmosphere is beautiful and very cozy. A great place to grab a cup of coffee with a friend or taken out your laptop and study. They have live music on most days usually later around 7:30 pm. Parking free on Sundays. Make sure to walk around the down town and check out other neat places.
