I now know, in a small way how the Russians of the 60s, 70s and 80s felt when they went to shop. There they stood in long lines, at the drab warehouse store, waiting to buy limited merchandise.. Each week the merchandise would be moved around to make your shopping less efficient and more cumbersome. Ask one of the comrades on the warehouse floor for help and " Nyet" was the usual reply. All of the merchandizing managers graduated from the "Peoples School of Inefficiency of Design " . Then comrade customer would have to go deal with a surly unsmiling cashier, who new they would still be paid no matter how surly they were. The Commissars in Arkansas would still sign their check. They never figured it out that comrade customer was the one really signing the check Then came Perestroika or in Charlottesville case Costco A bounty of merchandise, artfully displayed, in a bright cheerful atmosphere, helpful customer oriented reps on the floor and when you go to checkout, your greeted by a smiling, courteous cashier ( they understand the connection between their paycheck and the customer) Welcome to Charlottesville Costco, were glad your here.

terrible management. shady people who will lie, cheat, and be disengenuine to fellow employees. I witnessed the General Manager, Anita, scream at her employees until one of them cried. I have a mutual friend who was fired two weeks before her 90 days for spending too much time in the bathroom vomitting due to her terrible morning sickness while 6 months pregnant. They fired her immediately after being calling into work short notice, only for her to waste gas and be sent home. I have witnessed the Assistant General Manager, Joel, leave carts in the farthest reach of the parking lot at 11:00 p.m. leaving to go home, knowing well that his employees did the entire parking lot 30 minutes prior and will receive a write-up and demerit mark if the individual does not gather every cart. I have witnessed and have on recording managers and general managers lying on other employees to protect themselves and to throw others under the bus, and I have seen it get some of their hardest working employees fired because of lies and drama. What a terrible place this really is.

I loved Costco in San Diego, and am happy to be able to continue using them now that Im back in otherwise backwards and depressing Charlottesville. I probably pay for my Executive Membership in savings on 93 octane Tier 1 gasoline alone, but also love the food prices and quality. Its a shame not being able to buy liquor at Costco prices in the Peoples Republic of Virginia, but beer is one area Charlottesville does okay with 40-mile and Northern Lights IPAs. Other than the governments socialist monopoly on booze, the only other part of the Costco experience that didnt make the translation to this joyless burg is their inability to find someone who can reconcile receipts and shopping cart contents with greater efficiency than an SEIU member would display. If they can find one person who doesnt create a bottleneck at the exit even when the store is operating with only two cashiers, they will have provided a bright spot in a bleak town.

I love Costco because their buyers work hard to source a lot of organic, fairtrade and, when possible, local products. I also like how ethically the corporation treats its employees. It is true that not every product in the warehouse is a good deal compared to other stores (you need to check and compare prices), but Costco regularly rotates products for sale, and those sales offer amazing savings! There is an annual membership fee, but since members get a rebate on everything they purchase, I use my rebate to pay for my membership each year. Overall, we love shopping at Costco and save hundreds of dollars there each year.

I got a membership package when I joined and I was supposed to get a bunch of free coupons in the mail. I never received them. I also talked to two managers who said they would be getting back to me about it but never did. The prices are the same as any other store. I guess the appeal is being stopped at the door. Wait in a very long line to purchase items that you cant get a bag for. Then wait in another very long line to prove you are not a thief. Sounds like my ideal Saturday afternoon

I have visited many CostCo stores across the country. I have been shopping the CostCo in Charlottesville since it opened. I have found the Charlottesville store to have some of the nicest staffs of any store I have visited. Their return/membership desk is polite, professional and helpful. their checkout personnel are polite and personable. Their gasoline is top grade and usually the lowest price in town. I would recommend membership to this store to anyone.

Had tires installed that I ordered online. Dropped it off at 10 and was ready at 12. I had them install new GM pressure sensors I bought from the dealer so I wouldnt have to worry about them going bad later on. It took 3 techs to figure out how to get them programmed, but it works perfectly now! I mentioned that I could get the dealer to get them working, but they were diligent in getting it fixed for me there at the store properly.

Wow! What a selection, and since their arrival in town, they have even brought up the standards at Sams Club! Thanks especially for those gasoline price wars! Much appreciated, although I am amazed how often the sampling at Costco persuades me to buy a product I never would have thought of!

It hasnt been worth the extra money for membership when compared to Sams. Next year I will go back to Sams. Parking lot is confusing, store is big, but I am not finding things I used to buy at Sams. But I was willing to try Costco. These are just big, ugly stores.......

Excellent optical department at this location. I went several times because I couldnt make a decision. I was helped each time by a very knowledgeable associate. I tried on glasses at several stand-alone optical shops, but I felt like the Costo team was the most helpful.

Great organic Gala apples and organic frozen berries to add to your bananas, etc for the morning (anytime) smoothie. Also a wonderful organic snack, Aussie Bites, to tide you over till the next meal. And organic Mayorga Cafe Cubano coffee ---delightful taste!

People treat us so special white doing our shopping. Today I would like to give a special thanks to Innocent, a gentleman working with carts and helping ladies unload big cases of items. So appreciate his thoughtful observations

Ive never been to a more mellow Costco. Just today, I parked right out front and didnt wait at all at the cashier. There wasnt even a line at the hot dog stand.

I have been a Costco member on and off throughout the years. I prefer the selection and prices at Sams Club however after many years of shopping both stores.
