Ive been using the Village series of bike shops for years now. First with my dad as a teen, and then more than a decade later after moving back into the area on my own. Start with a nice, easy to get around in showroom area, with most of what youd need laid out and easy to find, add an attentive and helpful staff who can help with recommendations but are honest enough to not push the most expensive if you mention a budget, nor if its not the best choice for your situation.. and are good enough to admit to not knowing an answer to a question if they dont, rather than trying to fake it like some places Ive been. Mechanics who have, for me at least, gone above and beyond the needed service at great costs, and are willing to explain things in as complex or simple terms as desired. And a general willingness to work with you, to make it right. The experience I have at this shop is not, I want to sell you bikes, but instead I want to see you riding a bike. Theyve helped me turn unridable, poorly built bikes into passable temporary bikes, take a mediocre bike in poor repair and make it into a decent and fun ride. Theyve never tried to push a brand new bike on me, and instead pointed out low cost refurbished ones for if I come into funds enough and want to go that route some day. Now, I dont know what the other stores are like, but the GR-South / Kalamazoo and 60th street store helped bring me back into biking that I hadnt done in years, and without them, I wouldnt have managed to put in a 50 mile ride this year, firmly topping my old best of 15 miles the years before!

Understaffed and terrible customer service. Disappointing. I visited this bike shop 4 times in the past week to research and purchase a new mountain bike. The guys definitely know their equipment, Ill give them that. But on my second day I was ready to purchase, as I was checking out, we found out bike I was purchasing had been sold to another customer already. My sales person was apologetic and offered me an adjusted price on another bike and even ordered me a different bike from another store. I went in purchase that bike a few days later and ended up waiting without service for over 20mins. I left, received a call after the store closed saying my bike had arrived(which I already knew). I went to the store today to purchase a different bike( more expensive) waited for over 30 mins barely being acknowledged by sales staff. One sales person apologized for the other day, yet, I continue to wait while other customers were being helped. I still kept getting bumped to the back of the line(even new customers that came in after me were being helped). Someone finally came back to help me, which at that point I asked for a refund. It is apparent my money or time is not valued at this shop which is unfortunate. Good experience went south quickly. They should be ashamed of themselves for their passive disregard for SOME of their customers while actively engaging others.

Ive only been here once or twice, so my experience might not be representative, but the person there was quite helpful, and definitely neither pushy nor pretentious. I was shopping for a headlight, and the salesman didnt make any attempt to push me toward the more expensive models, and was very ready with useful information to help me make the best choice. I bought a Blackburn headlight, and the rubber (silicone?) strap ripped as soon as I tried putting it on my bike (which was fortunately outside the door). The salesman was very happy to replace it with another one (which fortunately didnt have the same problem) and told me if anything happened to that one I could return it any time at all without any hassle, since Blackburn products have lifetime warranties. I definitely plan to go back here. I see no reason to go anywhere else when I need products right away or bike service. (I havent used them for service yet, though, so I have no idea whether their labor prices are reasonable or not.) Of course its cheaper to order products online, as long as you dont mind waiting for them and paying for shipping. If you want something local, I would definitely recommend this place.

I highly recommend this store! Im an avid amateur rider, and purchased a bike from them about 3 years ago, at the recommendation of a friend who knows a lot more about bikes than I do. They helped me find the perfect bike for what I needed. The bike was a good price and excellent quality. Ive ridden about 600 miles on it so far, and couldnt be happier with it. Today, I bent my front wheel the day before a big trip, and was able to take it in and get it fixed for next to nothing, and all in a matter of minutes. Thank you, guys!!! If you want to buy a quality bike from staff who know what theyre doing, and can help you with your purchase - as well as upkeep down the line - this is the place to go!

We went here to buy my son a bike that would work well for him and fit well. They didnt direct us to the most expensive bikes, they steered us to the bikes that would be just right for him based on his height and level of experience. We couldnt be happier with the bike. And, they went through, step by step and taught my son how to use the gears, what he needs to do to keep the bike in good maintenance, etc. Now, my son WANTS to go back in, just to see everyone again and to get his bike tuned up on schedule. They really impressed upon him that these bikes require responsibility and my son listened and takes it all very seriously! I love this place and their customer service. Top notch!

I bought my Specialized road bike here at Village Bike- South in 2008. 19,000 miles later its still rollin- thanks to outstanding parts and service support from this shop. Most recently, I was having some serious foot numbness issues- Matt fitted me with the right insoles for my high arches and problem was solved! We are fortunate to have this convenient location on the South end. Thank-you!

They are the most fair and honest bicycle shop I have ever personally visited. Having said that, I have not visited every bicycle shop in West Michigan but out of the many that I have visited, Village Bike and Fitness does the best job in all categories.
