I wanted to like this Sprouts. I really really did. My first experience with Sprouts was at the Brodie Lane location. This place was great! Clean, good selection, friendly staff, good prices. What more could you want?? Then, they announced that this location would be closing. Why oh why?! It was ok though - I still had Sprouts in Westlake. Slightly less convenient, but still do-able. Almost as clean, staff was fine, prices were of course the same. Then, they announced that this Sprouts would also be closing. Nooooo! Dont fear, they said, Sprouts will now have a location on Lamar and 290 next to the Olive Garden! Hmmm. Didnt know how I felt about that shopping center in general, but I was willing to give it a try. I did give it a try. And tried really hard to like it. But alas, they made it really hard. The store is cramped, outdated, and the staff really wasnt helpful. Once I was looking for a cashier - saw an employee bent over the conveyer belt reading a magazine. When I asked if she was open she let out a huge sigh and walked back to her side of the register without saying a word. She acted as if I was such an inconvenience. Oh, Im sorry, but isnt it your job as a checker to check people out?? Didnt think Sprouts paid you to read the magazines. On another visit, one of the man behind the meat counter told us we were "making philly steak sandwiches wrong" with the type of meat we asked him to slice up. (ironically, we got the same meat at Whole Foods last week - the guy knew exactly our plan, even before we said anything). The Sprouts butchers attitude was a real turn-off! However the straw that broke the camels back was during the recent cricket outbreak. Yes, I know, the crickets were everywhere in Austin. But they were EVERYWHERE within this Sprouts. The produce section was literally CRAWLING with crickets. Except for the ones who had died within the produce. They were rather dormant. Once I saw dead crickets in the lettuce and peaches, I was outta there. I know the crickets were invasive, but it didnt look like Sprouts even tried. A few things they could have tried: get rid of the plants in front of the store where the crickets were obviously living, vacuum the crickets up at night so they dont lie there dead for days, find the points of entry and seal. It was disgusting. I hate to say it, but Ill never be back to this location. With Central Market across the street and the new Whole Foods down south - its not worth it. Hell, I think itd rather shop for food at Wal-Mart before coming back.

I have been to this store three times over the past month, and experienced very long lines without adequate cashier presence to handle all the customers. I thought it was a fluke the first and second time, but apparently it is a persistent issue with this store. Besides the apparent lack of Management oversight and planning to expect the high number of customers during evening hours with adequate cashier personnel, there also is a lack of timely and appropriate response to such instances. Poor planning is moderately understandable, especially with random increases in customers (which this time of the day apparently is not random, because Ive experienced it consistently). But, not reacting appropriately and pulling additional on-site personnel to perform cashier duties when customers, ready to pay, form lines and stack up across the open spaces of the store is unacceptable. I wont spend a single dime at this store again. Id rather go to the HEB half a mile further, or the Target (especially when all I need is a cheap bottle of wine, or small quantity of vegetables), than to continue to support an establishment like this one that permits such poor oversight and service in its store.

I used to shop at the Central Market close by, but my mom told me to try Sprouts. I feel in love. The location is perfect for me, but what is the best is the fresh produce that doesnt break the bank. They have an excellent bulk area as well. Check the website for deals for the week (you get deals from that week and the week before on Wednesdays). And if you are in a lunch rush, you must try their deli sandwiches. about $5 for a killer sandwich and the lady at the counter is the best. She even said she will make the sandwich more awesome to get you to come back, instead of going to another sandwich shop.

HORRIBLE customer service! I bit into a shell in the raw walnuts, and cracked my tooth, which required an $ 1100 crown. Neither my local Sprouts, the corporate office, nor their insurer did ANYTHING about it! They didnt even refund the cost of the walnuts! They cant tell which supplier the nuts came from because they use several and refused my suggestion of putting a "warning, may contain shells" sign above the raw bins. Sometimes the nuts are fresh, sometimes stale, and sometimes they may have an inch or longer shell still attached to them. Buyer beware! Youve lost my business because of your attitude.

A lot of their produce is ugly and not fresh. Items that should be abundant, like organic bananas, are hard to find and then its slim pickins. Several of the cheese items were past the due date. A awful smell was coming from the back of the store - possibly a shite ton of old seafood? The bathrooms are THE worst I have seen in the state!!! And the employees often have no idea what produce they are ringing up and will charge you whatever they feel like. Too many other good stores in Austin to compete with this one.

I agree with most of the comments about good produce at decent prices, smaller store with comfortable atmosphere, etc. I have been going to this store for 11+ years, going back to when it was Sun Harvest. What is very clear is that the customer care and service has gone down the toilet. Long lines due to only one or two cashiers is the norm now- doesnt matter what time of day. Its really frustrating and makes me sad to see this place go down hill. Also the bakery doesnt put out the fresh items it used to.

Sprouts is the underdog natural grocery store of Austin. They dont have a very big selection of organic produce but what they do have is such a great price! You usually need to use it faster then you would, say, then produce from Wheatsville but thats usually not a problem for me since I go through veggies so quickly! They have good sales on organic meat and a decent bulk section, although not much of it is organic. The staff are usually pretty cool and it is rarely crowded which can be quite nice.

This is a great little market within walking distance of the neighboring apartment communities. I dont use Sprouts as my primary grocery store but they do have great promotions, an affordable produce selection, and a decent bulk foods selection. Compared to their competitors, their prices are slightly higher on certain items but you just have to find the deals! I definitely go to Sprouts when I need a few items or when they have a promotion such as 20% off Freezer Foods and double ad Wednesday.
