I really like the vegetarian and organic options! The excellent owner, Norman, is very courteous and hard working. Steve, one of the great, hard working, and courteous representatives at this store, along with Norman, both seem to help 100s and 100s of customers all day long and always with a great attitude! University Foods has been a dedicated store in Detroit for a Very long time...Even when other stores ignored our city. Thank you University Foods Team! Decent market for last minute items. Its one of the closest grocery stores to Woodbridge, so thats a plus. But over the last year, theyve really hiked up their prices, so for some things youll pay more than you would at Whole Foods. Produce is good, and they carry beer and liquor. They also have a UPS drop off there, as well as a bank and a pharmacy. The only inconvenient thing is that if you want some items like deodorant, you have to ask for the person behind the counter to hand it to you. Kind of seems odd, but its not a big deal.

This is my neighborhood grocery store and Ive never been impressed with the service. Since the recent upgrades were made to the store, the service has actually gotten worse. The prices are often wrong and the cashiers might just argue with you instead of having the shelf tags checked. I went the other day 20 mins after opening and stood for almost 5 mins at the register before someone even acknowledged me. A cashier walked in, clocked in, and rang me up before anyone who was already working moved. They really need to get it together.

University is an okay place to go if you need food--its basically the only grocery store around for miles--but if youre looking for a job, dont work here. The owners utilize the right-to-work law to its fullest extent, which will end up shortchanging you when you need help finding work someplace else. Labor union wont care if you complain. If you are employed by these people, document everything that happens They will even try to shortchange you on clocking in.

When you walk in you can smell the stench from the meat section. That is NOT ok. I go in here maybe once every two years if Im an absolute bind And every single time of that I do into the store I am apalled at the smell. Definitely do not recommend this store to anyone. I truly believe the only reason theyre still in business is because there are people in the area who do not have cars and this is the only grocery store within walking distance

not A good selection of food, expensive, and the final straw was twice i went in there with empty bottles and the machine didnt work, and they refused to take them, when they had plenty of staff ofn hand to count the bottles, and were very rude, and did not try to help me at all. fortunatly there are other places to shop in the nighborhood.

Uncomfortably small; could use some modern updating and at least a 100% expansion to accommodate demand. Prices are predatorily high, much more so even than other non-major grocery stores in other neighborhoods. Inefficient checkout practices, requiring customers to sort and separate her own groceries based on payment methods.

University foods has a nice vegetarian selection of foods. The owner, Norm, is very knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful. And Steve, is an excellent leader AND team member. Thankfully, this store has been an important and caring business in the Wayne State area for decades. Thanks for your continued loyalty to our city!

This place is right next to where I live but my roommates and I go out of our way to avoid it. The food expires quickly. Employees are extremely unprofessional and rude. If you can overlook this, they do have some decent Michigan beer. Not a huge selection but it does the job if you forgot to pick up beer elsewhere.

Overpriced products. Most of the items are expired and you need to inform the employee to remove them! There is one cashier that is extremely rude and she is mostly selling lottery tickets. The pizza and deli foods are delicious but sometimes, they are not fresh at all. It is also a little expensive.

It is a good place to buy local. Specially price of chicken and eggs are lower than Walmart. Accept WIC, Bridge and all major credit cards. Pharmacy, western union, money gram is located inside. Also this is a place for UPS package receiving.

Only grocery store within walking distance, only really go there for the superb deli/pizza place. High prices, questionable characters all about. Heard of many people in the neighborhood say they try to get scammed in the parking lot.

I got my car towed by the manager for entering the store about 10 minutes after parking. He called the most expensive tow company, I paid $410 the following day to get my car. Very low tolerance, please be careful!

It would help if they got new signage for the store front so that it was easier to find. Prices are a bit high but for a stand alone store next to Wayne State University one would expect that.

Dont expect a good variety of fruits and veggies here. Also, its full of poor and homeless people who walk after you and are kind of disturbing. A very sad and depressing place.

I love going on picnics. And with such tasty selections that have fresh fruit. Good meats to grill up while on the go. And they have a hour foods spot for quick bits!

Clean neighbor grocery store. Not a huge selection of baked goods ( there is not a bakery in the store) but you can get sushi and there is a hot foods counter.

Great variety of items at cheaper price. There is a beer can and recyclable bottle recycling machine at the entrance which gives coupons (monetary) in exchange.

Its close; beats driving all the way out to a Meijer. You know, to pick up a few things. Theyre selection is decent for their size. The staff is friendly too.

For those of us who cant afford whole foods prices, this is the spot to get our groceries in Midtown. Shelves always fully stocked with a great selection!

Good store within walking distance of WSU campus. Only downside is that some items are more expensive than their equivalent at Whole Foods market in Detroit
