My husband proposed to me with a beautiful ring, made by another artist. Alas, the setting—as we discovered only later—was not right for the stone. We had been looking for 2 yrs for another artist to create a setting right for the stone. I must have walked into 300 jewelry stores across 6 cities from coast to coast and talked intently to a few different jewelers about creating a setting, but nothing was coming together. When my husband and I were in Ann Arbor visiting friends this Fall, I popped into Alex’s store, just to see, as was my custom. I was so happy with his design aesthetic, expertise in different styles, and his level of craftsmanship. We asked him his opinion on the current setting and what he might suggest we do with one of his own designs instead. He walked us, very professionally, through several scenarios, explaining the ins and outs of each direction. I felt comfortable that Alex would handle the commission with care and precision; and indeed he did. Alex exceeded my expectations at every turn. He under-promised and over-delivered—delivering promptly a full rendering of the design (done with a wonderful graphics program which really helped me predict the final result), a wax model and the final product. I really appreciated his level of attention to detail and artistry for every facet of the process. The ring is now both right for the main stone but is also a truly beautiful piece of jewelry. Finding someone who is a wonderful jeweler, fine craftsman, an expert in gems, and also an artist is an uncommon combination, as I discovered over the past few years. Alex is all of these, and is, thusly, a rare gem himself.

The engagement ring that Alex created for my fiance and I is absolutely incredible and a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Alex provided a totally personalized experience for me from the first time I walked through the door, and collaborating with him on the design was an easy and fun process. Throughout every follow-up meeting or email communication, Alex was very professional and clear about the process of the custom design. His price was very affordable and his jewelers advice and expertise is completely priceless when it comes to the details that make a ring truly special. I wanted to give an engagement ring which was a customized piece of art and unique reflection of my fiances spirit and personality (i.e.: not a mass-produced & boring stone and setting.) This was extremely important to me when I knew that I wanted to propose to her, and after seeing some of what other jewelers (chains, smaller boutiques, other designers) had to offer and not being impressed, I was incredibly happy when I found Alex. The first time I walked into the shop I had a consultation with him and he sketched out a rough design for the ring. I had a feeling that this was going to turn out perfect. Since my life is on super charge right now and I have limited time to give to any one thing. So I needed a jeweler I could completely trust with a very important item – a special diamond ring for a very special person. Being in business, I know how to do my homework to find the right person for the job. First I absorbed as much info as I could on diamonds and diamond pricing. Then I started the “interviews”. Wow! In no time at all it was apparent who was selling what. On my first visit, Alex explained the quality of craftsmanship in the diamonds he offers and showed me one. It was a beauty and his prices blew me away! For the exceptional quality he carried, his prices were very reasonable. At this point there was no question of who was going to do the job. Alex brought in several diamonds for me to select from and together we designed a simple but elegant setting. The ring was exactly what I wanted. The quality was topnotch and I felt confident I had best diamond for my money!

As many others have already said here Alex Gulko is nothing short of amazing. I had an idea of what I wanted and had met with other custom jewelers in the Ann Arbor area. No one could quite capture my vision after repeated visits. I walked into Alexs shop and described what I wanted, he asked a few questions, sat down, and sketched out the exact design that I wanted. From that point to the time that I received the ring I couldnt have been happier with the quality, responsiveness, professionalism, and detail that Alex provided. Of course the ultimate test was when I knelt down to ask my girlfriend to be my wife. My fiancee LOVES her ring. It fits her perfectly and is exactly what she always wanted. I highly recommend Alex Gulko, such craftsmanship and excellence usually come at a higher price. I cannot say enough about what he was able to provide for me.

Since I had met my girlfriend in Ann Arbor, I wanted to get an engagement ring from somewhere in town. I was recommended to go to Alex by a friend. I was, however, worried that this would not be in my price range. I was completely wrong! Alex Gulko worked with me to stay in my price range while still getting the great benefit of a custom jeweler, a truly unique ring just for me and my now fiance. Alex allowed me to add my personal touches and worked my ideas together into a truly beautiful ring that I cannot stop staring at.
