I went into the store Wednesday, April 5th around 7:00 pm. I needed a few items but stopped by the service desk to purchase a lottery ticket for my 80 year old Grandfather. The woman behind the desk was apologizing to the customer in front of me for some issue regarding money orders. I was waiting with my 17 month old until finally she asked me what I wanted. I needed a Mega Millions ticket for the next drawing. She gives me a lotto ticket for Thursday. I know nothing about the MD Lottery other then the ticket I needed for my Grandfather cost $1. She says it is $2. I pay her and walk away. I come back after calling home and tell her this is not the right ticket. I ask if I can give it back and she give me the correct ticket. You would have thought I asked her for her some huge favor. She scoffed and said no. I said it was a mistake she made and she could not fix it?! At that point I was furious. I demanded the correct ticket and my other $1 back, wrote down her name and told her I want to speak to her Manager. She said she was the Manager. If that employee is who you have chosen to represent your store then I completly understand why your parking lot is always empty. I work at a very sucessful big box store at the Service Desk. What I experienced tonight was absolutely ridiculous and would never be tolerated at my place of employment. Bad day or not, UNACCEPTABLE.

Expensive, not fresh, unfriendly! Pros: 1) lots of parking, 2) store is clean, and 3) big variety. Cons: 1) incredibly overpriced: the items on sale are pretty good deals, but its impossible to do remotely near a full grocery order and save money because only about 1/4 of the items you are looking for are on sale and the rest are way overpriced, so while you get a decent deal on a few things, you end up spending far more than necessary because of their exorbitant prices (which are what make the sale items appear to be amazing deals), 2) bad customer service (cashiers will stand talking to each other while youre waiting and they are generally unfriendly), 3) produce isnt fresh: rarely have I purchased any fruit or vegetable that hasnt gone bad quickly or just is poor quality (even though it might look good) - the store is undershopped so food stays on the shelves for too long, this goes for dairy and other perishables, too. In conclusion, Im very disappointed with the store, which is a shame since I live down the block. Ive transferred my prescriptions to CVS (I got drawn in by Safeways $30 gift card to fill a new prescription) and cant wait for Fresh Market to open to supplement what I cant get at Trader Joes! Until then, Ill drive to Wegmans.

I worked at Towson Safeway for a little over a year and I must say the employees make this store! They are not only on top of their game but they go far and beyond the call of duty. I met individuals who were multi-talented and worked very well under pressure. Many may not know this store was one of the leading Safeway stores in the district (Maryland, Delaware and DC). I was especially impressed with the selection of the produce department and the overall management of the store. When it came down to insatiable customers I saw management handle issues with ease and swiftness, including with a few customers who come frequently with "tricks and games," as one employee identified. For the few negative comments we must keep in mind the time in which you came to the store and the volume of traffic the store was seeing at the time. We must always keep in mind those who work in the service industry. It is never easy.

As Ive experienced so far (~5-6 visits), this place is a customer service catastrophe. The sad thing is that it is a new store, with plenty of parking and very clean, and with a fresh start, they could have gotten things right. But instead, the majority of employees show no interest in helping customers - I spent over 5 minutes waiting right in front of the customer service desk before one of the 2 bored-looking employees came around to the idea that I might like some help. Management appears to be totally absent. Add high prices to the mix and you have a generally uninviting grocery store. If youre looking for quality and selection, drive the extra distance to Wegmans, if you want good prices, try an ethnic grocery store or even SuperFresh, and if you want customer service, go to Trader Joes. This store doesnt seem to have much of any of these.

I quit shopping here for the same reason as the several other reviewers- high prices and unfriendly/incompetent staff. When the store first opened it seemed nice- the produce looked fresh and everything was new and shiny. There was even a dry cleaners and a Starbucks. However, after checking out I found the employees to be generally rude and unpleasant. Also, when we tried to pick up our dry cleaning nobody was at the desk and we had to go searching (happened all 3 times we took dry-cleaning there). The clothes didnt look pressed at all, but wrinkled just as badly as when Id brought them to get cleaned. The final problem is the price- We spent about 30 percent more on average than other area grocery stores - Food Lion, Shop Rite, etc. Since there are about 10 grocery stores in this area Id go to another one.

This Safeway is better than Giant - it has better selection and better stocking, definitely cleaner. However, a store cannot be better than its employees. Sadly, like much of Baltimore, this store is populated in large part by staff that are just kind of ghetto. They dont really care and they are lazy. I shop here because its the best option as compared to other stores. The only two stores that are better for customer service are the Whole Foods on Falls Road (they are expensive and WAY, WAY crowded) and Eddies off Charles and Bellona (WAY too expensive). Pity, because Safeway stores in other (less sketchy) states like Texas are full of competent staff who truly care. Its not Safeways fault; its the culture around here.

I shopped there on Sunday December 18th, and while I was there purchased 2 packages of Open Nature Sausages. When I opened the package this week it smelled terrible and I went looking for a sell by date-- NOVEMBER 30. These products were on the shelf 18 days after the expiration date. Inexcusable. The last time I was there the cashier practically destroyed my produce throwing it into the bag- ruined a number of tomatoes and bananas. I understand that this is an under shopped store so it is difficult to keep the shelves stocked, but keeping bad food in the shelves is no way to remedy this. Between these two experiences and the generally rude staff, I will never return.

As far as grocery stores go, the prices are as terrible as the people. Ive been here on several occasions to see if it would improve but so far it has not. It does not have much of a selection for some brands. The people who work there are rude and unhelpful. Ive had to spend extra time searching for things because no one has the "time" to help me or is not near the customer service center. I could understand this during the opening weekend and maybe the first few weeks but its been a few months now and it has not improved. Ive resorted to spending a bit more for groceries at Wegmans or Eddies for a better selection, better service and better help.
