Do yourself a favor and stay away from this bakery. Your patronage is not valued. For over 15 years I almost exclusively bought all cakes for special occasions from this place as I like to support local businesses. After giving them two chances-- I am here to warn you the owner of this bakery could care less about customer service. My first bad experience occurred in August of 2013 when I ordered a custom cake for a baby shower. Although beautifully decorated and tasted good, we had 1/3 of the cake left over which we took home. The next day at a BBQ, I pulled the cake from the fridge for our BBQ guests to eat and I kid you not, this cake had a lot of MOLD towards the center! I was forced to throw it out. I called the bakery the next business day to let them know what happened; I was not requesting nor expecting any monetary reimbursement, just to inform them what occurred with a day old cake! Did they act concerned? No. The lady on the phone (limited English) said I probably left it out over night, which I did not as I am adamant about food hygiene. I left the convo at that. My second bad experience was this past October when I ordered a custom birthday cake. I printed out an 8"x10" colored photo of the cake design--quite simple. I went to pick up the cake and the color was completely off! Instead of turquoise, the cake was seagreen plus it didnt have the décor clearly pictured in the photo. I was quite upset as it was supposed to be a theme cake. I requested to speak to the Manager/Owner who didnt show any concern nor offered to rectify the situation. When I questioned how could you get the color wrong and lack of décor when you have a photo as a guide, he yelled: "well there is nothing I can do!" I insisted he at the very least put one of the decorations on the cake so it ties it to the party theme. I knew nothing could be done about the cakes color two hours from party-time. He yelled at me that he was very busy--I know its a Saturday--but you should be trying to help a customer after you got the cake wrong and when I am paying $200! I refused to pay the remaining $50 balance after the owner yelled at me in front of his other clients and he continued to yell out as I walked away that he would take it out of the girl who accepted the order. How sad! If the owner treats his customers this way, I cannot imagine how he must treat his employees. Never again will they get my patronage. Luckily there are several bakeries in this area to choose from with delicious (mold-free) cakes and an amicable store front that treats customers with basic respect. Youve been warned.

While Im sure the cakes are tasty (based on the other reviews, we chose this as our wedding cake provider), we were far from impressed with this bakerys service. After we had taken the time to carefully select our wedding cake AND purchased an ornament to top it, we were appalled on our wedding day to arrive at the reception site to find a DIFFERENT CAKE than what we had ordered, which had no ornament anywhere to be found. We had selected a two-tiered cake with pillars, and of course the top ornament--what was delivered to our reception site was a plain 3-layer cake, with strands of inedible (and uncuttable) pearls around it. Since we obviously needed to cut the wedding cake, I, in my wedding dress, had to stick my fingers into the cake to remove the pearls so we could actually take our cake-cutting pictures. Needless to say, I was left with a massacred chocolate cake and messy fingers, and our cake-cutting pictures were ruined. What was perhaps most frustrating to me was the response that we received upon notifying the bakery the next day of the mistake. Not only were we told that the deliverer had realized the ornament omission when he brought the cake (and proceeded to do nothing about it), but also we were then told that this was the cake that we had ordered!!! Im pretty sure I would remember my own wedding cake--particularly after painstakingly going through each of the pictures to select the perfect one!!! And would we REALLY have selected strands of uncuttable pearls to decorate the cake, when we clearly would need to do the ceremonial cutting? Give me a break. And AFTER that, we were told that "well, at least we got a cake". I could have gone to Safeway for any old cake--the reason I picked out, special-ordered, and paid for a cake from this bakery was because it was for our once-in-a-lifetime wedding day. After a great deal of discussion, my husband was finally able to receive only a partial refund for the cake debacle, but it does not change the fact for me that my wedding cake--and pictures--were ruined. The customer service we received after this was atrocious. Suffice to say I will never be patronizing this bakery again.

I have been frequenting this bakery since it opened near my office, almost 20 years ago. To be honest, I gave a less than stellar review to it about a year ago. Since then, a lot has changed - the store has been spruced up, the counter staff are new, and the baked goods are once again worth the trip. To begin - who am I and why should you trust my updated review? First, I am of Turkish extraction - we love our coffee and pastries, and are notoriously picky about them. Second, as I youth I trained to be a chef and did a stint in a pastry shop. Believe me, I know good pastry. I returned to Classic Bakery today after a long absence. The ambiance has greatly improved, and the staff now are incredibly pleasant and helpful. The proprietor, Nareen, is also very pleasant and professional - he truly cares about his store and his products, and wants his customers to be more than satisfied. I started with a small cup of Turkish coffee - it was great! I finally have a place where I can go for a good cup of Turkish coffee - fragrant, not bitter, and slightly sweet. I left with an assorted box of pastries - bakalava, fruit and custard tarts, Nazhook, and miniature chocolate cream cakes. They were all out of this world. The bakalava was filled with nuts, slightly sweet, with a beautifully balanced mix of fragrant spices. Excellent pastry - thin, flaky, delicate and slightly chewy. The Nazhook were perfect - light, slightly chewy, filled with cinnamon - slightly sweet and not overwhelming. (There are two things that I believe are a perfect accompaniment to good coffee - a well made Nazhook, and galette de Breton. For the second one must go to France. For Nazhook - you only need to go to Gaithersburg). Fruit and custard tarts were great - and probably the moistest tarts I have ever encountered - very impressive. The miniature chocolate cream cakes were sinful. Great, deep, rich chocolate taste, yet light and airy, with an marvelous mouth feel. Kudos to Nareen and his family. This is once again my favorite bakery - and now that I know they have good Turkish coffee, I will be a frequent customer.

First off this is coming from an engaged couple, It was easy to book appt online, I emailed first and they responded the same day with some info and asked I booked my cake tasting/consult online, great. We went in about 15 min early, It was kind of busy but we had a nice girl that asked our name & lead us to sit. She had our cake samples ready which was nicely done. The person we were waiting to talk to was still busy with another couple. We tasted our cake samples and waited.. and waited. No one came to check if we needed water or ANYTHING. About 30 min into our "consult" we were finally told to go to the counter to discuss with the guy , once we went to the counter, we waited again. We were just so done with the lack of service and professionalism. We also didnt care that all the pics we seen of the cakes were the same basic kind of design. Flowers & ribbons. square or circle . We were done, annoyed & over it. We ended up just walking out , we went to Fancy cakes by Leslie in Bethesda got amazing service without a appt & booked our cake there. I wouldnt recommend. P.S dont upset an engaged couple or more so a BRIDE. the word spreads pretty quickly & it wont be good.
