It took some looking for this place, but I finally found it! Its in a shopping center on the west side of Metcalf at 103rd. Theres a big store called Furniture Deals, or something like that, anchoring the center. The Oriental Supermarket is on the north side of the building -- you cant see it from Metcalf but just drive around on the north side and youll find the market. It was larger than I expected and I had a little trouble figuring out their system of shelving stuff. Eventually it dawned on me that to some extent its by country of origin of the groceries. While the store is owned by Koreans, they have quite a lot of Japanese goods, as well as some Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Filipino groceries. The selection is pretty comprehensive. I bought other things, too. They carry roasted sesame paste (like tahini, but made with toasted sesame seeds, not raw ones); matcha (Japanese green tea powder that can be used in exotic sorbets and ice cream as well as for the Japanese tea ceremony); and in the Filipino section canned squid in its ink -- now I can make a seafood risotto nero thats pretty authentic! Between this market and 888 International Market on 119th you should be able to find just about anything you need for Asian cooking! For added interest, theres a Mexican market and butcher (Latino y Punto) and Indian market (India Emporium) on the south side of the building, facing 105th Street. I didnt have time to explore those, but Ill get back there before long to see what they have! At Oriental Supermarket I was able to find the wakame seaweed I needed for miso soup that I couldnt find at 888 (they may have had it, but I couldnt read the packages -- one shredded dried seaweed looks a lot like the next one). I also got roasted sesame seeds, which I can use for a number of things, and they had some pickled lemons which I think would be perfectly useful for some Middle Eastern dishes that call for pickled lemon. Thumbs up for this market!

Best Korean/Asian market in the Overland Park area, with a huge selection of all the necessities and hard to find Korean items. Produce selection is lacking, usually pretty picked over and not always fresh, but if you go when theyve restocked it fresh its not so bad and you can usually always find Korean radish, green onions, Korean peppers, bean sprouts, Korean chives and perilla leaf. Nice selection of housewares/kitchen goods too. If youre looking for Korean food/pantry essentials, make this is your go to place.

Great kim-bap lunch special every day $6.00. My go-to place for exotic ingredients, the prices cant be beat versus the regular Supermarket because these are Staples in the Asian diet. Best prices in town for coconut milk, basil, cilantro, mushrooms. All sorts of soy and fish sauce is available. Great tea selection. More noodles than youve ever seen in one place in your life. Great neighborhood store weve been frequenting it for over 8 years.

Largest Korean market for hundreds of miles. Wide variety of baked goods, freshly prepared banchan, and a good variety of fruits and veggies. There is a small variety of frozen meats for Korean BBQ and such. The products on the home goods side of the store are decent although some prices are a little over the top. The owner does not smile much and despite years of patronage is not very engaging or appreciative for that matter..

Great selection, friendly staff, and clean store. It seems to be mainly Korean and Japanese, and they have a great selection of kimchi. They make kimbap, or Korean-style sushi fresh on the weekends. You can also find thin-sliced pork and beef for a reasonable price. But best of all, they make the best steamed pork buns! They are so savory they can be eaten on their own without condiments.

As a person from a large metropolitan area and frequently shop at a large grocery store, this "supermarket" just seems so tiny to me. But the store did have a minimum number of Korean food products that you "can" shop and prepare a korean dish. And the products they carry are surprisingly fresh. A cashier should smile more often. I thought I was having an interview with the cashier.

I had never been to an Oriental Market until i visited this store. It was interesting and I loved it. They have one of the best selections in town for many various items. Ive been to Oriental markets and this one has by far the best selection. Staff is ok and seems mostly friendly. But not very helpful sometimes when you need to find something.

Easily the best stocked Asian grocery Ive been to. Their produce is excellent and they have kimchi for days. Predominantly Japanese/Korean but has a good selection of some Chinese and southeast Asian sauces and products if youre looking to make Tom yum or pho. If youre needing lemongrass they have it.

This is very much my go-to place for most Oriental goods. I stumbled across them at one of JoCos festivals, and Ive been going there ever since. They have a great selection to choose from, the prices are usually right, and their house-made gimbbap is incredible. Do yourself a favor and try it :)

Found this Market to be one of the largest ones around and with a medium selection of Asian foods. Large selection of Korean food. Friendly staff. If you are a frequent shopper, they have a "savings card" to use later. Good customer service.

Great selection of asian foods. Well stocked meat section with lots of different bones for making different soup. Nice korean banchan for take away. Huge freezer section with anything you need. Constantly having good sales on rice, fish, etc.

Ive been coming here for years. I used to come across town since they were so limited. More have popped up recently, but the prices here are great! They also have a rewards program thats free to join and builds a cash value.

Anything you are looking for you will find here. They have an endless supply of ingredients for many cuisines. Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese to name a few. The prices are excellent and the staff are very friendly.

This isnt my favorite Asian market. The prices are typical, but the service is below average; even for an Asian market. The "fresh" Thai basil frequently looks fuzzy &/or moldy to me.... but it hasnt killed me yet.

I dont have to worry they sell expired food like what other Asian grocery stores do, and the staffs are very friendly and helpful. The only place I will shop for Japanese and Korean stuffs in town. :-)

The best Asian market in the city by far. Many options, organized and clean story, and friendly people. Also their discount card is very generous.

There are enough Japanese groceries to keep me sane living in KC. My favorite brand of frozen udon is way overpriced though I understand why
