It took two extra trips to get them to complete all of the repairs, and I still had to finish the work myself. I started looking for a new vehicle today and remembered why I won’t purchase from Wilson. This experience happened between Dec 2015 and Sept 2016, but I documented it and retained all emails to make sure I could provide a complete picture. I meant to post this sooner, but forgot about it until I was in the market for a new truck. The sales floor was OK when I purchased the truck new. The repair department is sub-par. 11/25/15 - I wrecked my Tacoma that was purchased from Wilson. The damage was on the driver’s side bed, directly behind the cab. Since the vehicle was purchased from Wilson, I figured that was the best place for repair. I emailed them that I live on the south side of Des Moines, but figured the 45 minute drive was only going to happen a few times so I had chosen their shop anyway. I was wrong about how often I would have to deal with them. 12/1/15 – I forwarded AllState’s estimate to Todd S. in Wilson’s repair department. 12/2/15 - Todd S. emailed that they had received the estimate, ordered parts, and set up appointment for 12/7/15. They offered a loaner while repair was ongoing. 12/8/15 – Todd S. called my wife and told her they had ordered the panel – the part they had supposedly already ordered – and that we needed to return the loaner so they would have it on the lot to sell since it would take a week to get the part. We told them no, and they acquiesced. 12/14/15 – I drove from Dsm to Ames to pick up completed truck (first time). The support for the body panel had not been installed and the flair had an issue that needed repainted. I returned to Des Moines empty handed. 12/14/15 (evening) – Emailed Todd S. to let him know the above issues and that the protective film at the front of the bed, behind the cab, had not been put on during the course of the repair. This made it so the side panel could be easily moved back and forth. The plastic piece that is there also had a large gap where it stuck out from the truck, much more than the other side. Todd S. agreed and was going to fix it before I returned. 12/16/15 – I returned to Ames to pick up the truck (second time). Todd S. insisted there was not supposed to be a film at the leading lower corner of the bed, so the issue hadn’t been addressed. I showed him where it was on the other side of the vehicle, he agreed it needed installed, and I waited for them to put the missing piece on. When I went to drive the truck, it veered 3 degrees to the left. I returned it to the shop so they could align the vehicle. 12/17/15 – I returned to Ames (third time) and picked up the vehicle. When I got it home I noticed there were two bubbles in the film. I was beyond wanting to deal with Wilson, so I decided to live with it and included the detail in the 12/21 email since issues were still ongoing. 12/20/15 – While putting gas in the vehicle, three of the four rivets that hold the fuel hose assembly to the vehicle popped out. The shop had used regular, short, aluminum rivets instead of the long, black, Toyota brand ones. 12/21/15 – I emailed Todd S. requesting he send me the correct rivets so I could do the repair myself. 12/22/15 – Todd emailed to say the rivets would ship that afternoon. 12/30/15 – I still hadn’t received the rivets six mail days after he said they mailed so I sent a followup email. 12/31/15 – Todd S. emailed they would receive the rivets and ship them 1/4/16 1/4/16 – Todd S. mailed the rivets, per the postmark. A day or two later I received them and attached the fuel filler hose. Summer 2016 – My local service shop, while fixing wheel bearings, commented that the tire/rim Wilson had fixed had been balanced incorrectly and there was an excessive amount of wheel weights put on the tire during the truck’s stay at Wilson. It was causing part of the vibration that I had been experiencing when I took the truck in. I was told that the truck would have never left my local service shop with that much weight on the rim.

If I could give Wilson Toyota no stars, I would have. I am a young professional who likes a new car every couple of years. I had always went to Toyota in DSM but decided to check out Toyota in Ames. I did get a better offer there so that is who I chose to go with. I worked with Randy who was good to work with for the Sale. I did leave a CD in my old car in which Randy said he would return to me but never did get that back. Fast forward to the 5k mile oil change. Upon the sale, Randy asked me to call him when I reached 5k miles and he would set up my oil change for me. I reached out to him on a Monday to schedule a time for Saturday early morning as I live in Des Moines. He told me when the time was (on Thursday) and I was set to go....however, I never received a confirmation email for my appointment so I called the service department only to find out that it was never scheduled and they couldnt get me in until late afternoon which did not work out with my schedule. Frustrated, I could not get a hold of Randy so reached out to Management who was very apologetic for the incident and offered to have a gentleman come pick up my car from my workplace and leave me a loaner while they serviced it in Ames. I felt better and was pleased with this offer. Come Monday, when I got my car back they didnt even wash it. Every dealership Ive been to washes the vehicle after a service...especially if the customer is already dissatisfied...PLUS when the guy who brought my car back opened my driver’s side door, he smashed it on some decorative rocks in the parking lot!!!! On the drive home I noticed a strange rattle in the dash board and a MISSING piece of the vent in the dash, how that became missing I have no idea. I now have to take it BACK to Ames again to get looked at. I am halfway tempted to trade this car in right now with a different dealership so I do not have to deal with them again. Please spare yourself the heartache and choose a different dealership, I wish I could go back and do the same.

Purchased my second used vehicle from Wilson Toyota in Ames and dont regret it at all. From the very beginning my Sales Rep Glenn went above and beyond to make sure I found the vehicle I wanted as well as helping me work out the financing. His patience and perseverance was never overbearing or pushy, but rather he was kind and thoughtful in all his communications. He found a way to work with my particular needs that required him to speak to management several times to represent my situation. He never gave up on me and helped us come up with an all-around excellent outcome right at the beginning of this Christmas season. A blessing to my whole family. I was able to meet the owner too who took time out of his busy day to greet me and listen. I also had a great experience with the service team, especially Bill who saw an opening in the schedule and immediately got my vehicle in instead of waiting for a scheduled date the following week. I would highly recommend Wilson Toyota Scion of Ames. Great people, great product, fair pricing equals a happy customer.
