This mall was my childhood and it was a great mall when I was little. I used to ride on the 2 story carousel. A few years ago I went and only a few stores were open. Saturday April 1st 2017 my boyfriend and I went and only 3 big end stores were open. The mall is depressing now and completely abandoned. Its now used as a trail just for people to exercise and walk around and go for fun if you are into abandoned places. We saw very few people taking photos and videos as it is abandoned and we did the same thing. The carousel is gone. The bathrooms dont have signs they are written on the wall and the mens bathroom you dont want to go in there its disgusting. Everything is gone! Theres nothing there. Elevators dont work and escalators some work but they are broken and eventually stop. I dont understand why its still open if its abandoned! So depressing and kind of creepy.

This mall is nothing but abandoned. I remember coming here as a kid and this mall had everything. It was busy and it was fun. Now there are only three anchor stores, a nail salon, a closed carousel, and a movie theater. The three anchor stores are Kohls, Von Maur, and Carson Pirie Scott. Kohls and Von Maur are still busy, but I havent seen anyone in Carsons for at least 10 years. At least it still has a great movie theater. Now Simon Properties, which is the same company that owns the hugely successful Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, wants to buy this property in order to fix it up. This mall is too economically damaged for even the wealthiest mall owner to fix. Its extremely sad to see one of the places I grew up going to falling into ruins pretty much

I grew up going to this mall it was AWESOME back in the day it was filled with the best stores and theyd have awesome events..now its dead. I also worked there for years at DEB..which recently closed down even though the rent was reduced terrible thing to see the owners raising rent to make up for lack of stores driving the remaining ones out. they should reduce rent just to get stores back in so this mall can be more than just a place for elders to walk around in the morning (the most packed it gets) and just a place to see a movie (only reason it stills manages to be open) security needs to realize theyre there FOR EMERGENCYS not to constantly be watching everyone making them feel uncomfortable acting like cops because theyre bored.

I grew up with this mall and knew it in its prime. It has slowly deteriorated for a reason I dont know for years. Most of the time, however, I have only been there simply to see a movie, which has always been a good experience. It is only till recently that I have been around the mall again. It is a very strange but interesting feeling to see a place that you once knew as incredibly lively to be effectively empty. Especially at night as most of the mall is unlit. For this reason I dont recommend walking in the more ignored areas of the mall alone at night. Its a shame to see this place in such ruin but, at least according to the folks at lens crafters, the mall will have some changes made to it soon; there is some hope.

Last time i was here...the mall was empty but i remember a good...idk say 9-12 years ago when this place still had stores and a food court and an arcade and such. I remember when it had sears, deb, gamestop, the theatre and many many stores! I even faintly remember when santa went to take pictures....makes me sad seeing it just empty because i just remember from years ago when there was people and i get flashbacks.... oh yeah and there was a dollar tree right across Deb and Sears...yeah...this mall was amazing. Used to just travel cities just to come here on special occasions because of the distance but i loved the architectures in and outside. Hopefully when they are done renovating ill go back and see the changes!

I read some reviews about how awful and ghostownlike the mall feels but the main attraction is the movie theater. I dont choose to go to St. Charles as it is out of my way BUT this is the only reason why I make the trip. You usually have seating, just arrive early. The movie pricing isnt too high like other theaters. The sound is always good during the movies. They always have the movies were looking for. We will continue to go back for the movie theater. The rest of the mall doesnt really attract us. The mall does offer a kid friendly play place type deal that also can be found on Groupon in case youre making it a family outing.

This place is essentially a dead mall. Youve got Von Maur (I believe that was how its spelled) which is the nicest store in a mall Ive ever been too but its products are too pricey for my blood. The theater is also still there but thats all the mall has to offer. I remember the mall in its former glory before all its stores packed their bags. Those were the days. Oh well, a victim of the ravages of time. The mall has a very nice look too it, Id almost suggest going just to appreciate the way it was made. Almost

As far as a mall goes this is no longer a mall but rather a large building that connects 2 stores & a movie theater. That said it was incredibly eerie walking through the mall & seeing EVERY store empty. It is interesting and strange to walk through a mall that use to have so much energy and be so alive and now almost serves as a reminder of what life was like before modern online shopping. I went into this mall to shop but stayed because I had never seen anything like this, its definitely something to see.

Last weekend i had a very unpleasant experiance. The so called "mall security" kicked us out of the mall (and movie theatre) for a rediculous reason. He didnt give us a warning or anything. We didnt do anything wrong, bad, harmful, or damaging. Overall i think they need to either hire new security or or retrain them. I think it is unfair to kick customers out without valid reasonn, and without warning.* warning to everyone who goes here: the slightest thing can get you thrown out and ruin your night.*

I gave it a 3 because of the lack of stores currently in the mall, HOWEVER....it is incredibly cool to walk through what feels like a post-human ruin. There is still a very active, excellent priced movie theater here, an escape room business and a 4D game experience, but the rest is empty. They blocked off an entire wing to limit access but the rest is creepy, cool, mysterious, weird, wonderous. If you want to feel like the last person on the planet, give Charlestown Mall a visit.

The mall itself is a ghost town. BUT the Charlestown 18 theaters bring us to the area regularly. The choices are as broad as anyone could expect, the prices are below the market for the area, and theres a new restaurant and winery due to open at the west corner of 64 and the mall. Ive particularly enjoyed afternoon double features made possible by good scheduling of the films. I gladly drive the 20 miles over attending more local theaters most of the time.
