Grooming Review - First and last visit to Petco grooming. I had forgot my proof of rabies and was trying to access the information from the website. Shannon, the so-called Grooming Manager, starts badmouthing me to an employee about how I should know to bring this information and how I am causing them to fall behind. Then when I called her out, she continued to attack me and escalate the situation until the Store manager had to tell her to stop. Management is a privilege, and Shannon should stay in the back with the clients who cannot speak up for themselves, as she has no customer facing skills. In a situation as such, the manager is the hero to help the client and not yell at them. It is also difficult to speak with someone from the grooming department when calling the store. Each time I called, I was on hold for 10 minutes, and then the person who picked up was not from the grooming department and could not help. The McHenry Petco just never answered or after awhile on hold just disconnected the phone call. The rabies shots were given through the Petco’s Vetco services, but there is no integration between the two companies. Petco should provide a value add service to be able to get that information for the customer when the pet comes in for a grooming service. The Store Manager at lease tried helping and call to try to get validation for me. I would suggest avoiding the Petco grooming services. Your local groomers provide a better customer experience with less hassle, more care, and in this case at a lower cost.

The first time I went to Petco in June this year I was amazed. We had always been going to the Petsmart in Gurnee. Compared to Petco, Petsmart doesnt look that healthy. Plus, when I had been looking for a friend fro my parakeet at Petsmart, the birds all looked sick and unhealthy. A week or so later they were all gone and there was a note from the manager telling anyone who had bought a parakeet from them in the last month or so should talk to them. However, Petcos parakeets all looked active and playful, not to mention they looked better kept with a more enjoyable cage. And thats not even mentioning the customer service I got! At petsmart, they had no advice and no idea which ones were boys and which were girls. At Petco, the manager really knew her stuff!! She told e what to do, and could easily tell the girls from the boys. She also made a house visit to our house to cut their claws and my sisters guinea pigs nails, and all four animals cost significantly less than it cost at Banfield to cut two animals nails. I hardly ever go to Petsmart anymore, if I can avoid it!

Petco advertises positive reward training for your dog. This should not include training with a prong collar on or doing leash corrections. As a professional dog trainer certified by CCPDT, this is concerning not only for the treatment of a dog, but in the education of the public. Having also communicated with many other Petco trainers and managers across the country with this concern, I am being told prong collars are indeed in violation of corporate policy. My concern is again, for the pain these cause a dog, as well as the public not understanding this only suppresses behavior. Clearly this needs to be addressed. The staff member, Jeff, as always, went above and beyond, answering questions about my daughters ferret and rats dietary needs. Jeff was on his way out of the store but happily answered all of her concerns, as she confidently made a $120.00 purchase. Training...boooo....Jeff and cashier yes!

I know most people write reviews when something goes wrong, but I have been taking my now 14 month old black lab Ammo to the FREE puppy playtime on Satrudays and he has been through an adult level class and just graduated the CGC prep class. The trainer Kayla was GREAT, with her help he is now passed the AKC Star Puppy test and the AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test. All the employees in the store have come to know and love Ammo, when he graduated each class the store gave him a big bag of treats, and this last class the Assistant Manager ( Andrew I think) even gave Ammo a stuffed leoperd toy...I very highly reccomend Kayla and the staff at Petco for training...THANKS KAYLA

We love going here and it is so close to our neighborhood! Unfortunately, their grooming service is quite annoying. On 2 separate occasions my husband and I brought our dog in around 6 PM (the groomer closes, according to their website and the sign on their door, at 8)....and both times it was closed and the staff acted like it wasnt uncommon to just close, even though youre advertised as open... Last time we were there, the manager was very nice and did give us a coupon for $6 off whatever we bought as an apology, so that was nice and she genuinely seemed sorry for our inconvenience. We will still shop there, but found somewhere more reliable for grooming services.

Terrible customer service! I was seeking information over the phone this morning and they happen to stop me in mid sentence and "hang on one sec" is what they told me about 3 times, they where not handing the phone off, they put it down and forgot about it and by luck someone had noticed i was still on the line. The last person i talked to was not qualified to talk on the phone. I had to tell him the same thing two times because i would hear him talking in the background to someone else and say "sorry what was that" i dont think education is needed to work at petco but communication skills are, which he lacked. This is why i try to stick with private pet stores.

The staff is a bit uneducated. They are taught to sell the inhumane training devices in order to make more money, instead of teaching people that actual training is the best option. Prong collars do NOT teach your dog to walk nice on the leash, training does!! But most of the employees are very understanding when people want to take their time to pick out the best pet. Petco sells much better selections of pet food than Petsmart. So props for that! They also allow local shelter and rescue groups to do adoptions and what not. Which is always a plus. Oh! and they have racing competitions for mice etc... which is really cool!

Not a whole lot of stuff for reef keepers, but better than nothing when your LFS isnt open. You can buy emergency premixed box water here if you have a spike or someone gets sick and you need a hospital tank. Decent selection of tanks, but almost all are more fresh water friendly. They also have all the common frozen and dried reef foods. No actual salt fish at all, but thats understandable.

Petco Round Lake Beach has the best groomers! I would like to particularly commend Miss Shannon - who has always been competent, proficient and above all - kind. She is wonderful!! Sometimes I think my pup loves Miss Shannon more than she loves me (but Im OK with that!). Miss Shannon showers love and care upon my pup and it is always a pleasure to work with her :)

I love the store! The people are very friendly but the store might want to change the dates on the web site that says when Puppy Playtime is. According to the website it is on Saturdays but when I went there today I found out it wasnt that day but the calendar in the store visible to the customers has it scheduled as Tuesday.
