This review is long over due. And if you dont feel like reading anymore, all you need to know is I give this place a 6 out 5 stars. Jon and Josie, the couple who run the shop, are nothing but honest and have great service. Ive been to Gen X three times and each one has been a great experience. The first time I accidentally downshifted my Honda 599 instead of up shifting, pinning my rpm needle to the max. Thinking I damaged my engine I brought it in to them. Jon and Josie took my bike in for the day and called me back saying everything seemed fine. And didnt charge my a penny for their time. The second time I got my tires changed which I found their prices to be the cheapest in the north Chicago land area. Dont even bother with dealerships. They just rip you off. Especially if you didnt buy your bike from them. The third time I was riding in Wisconsin a couple days after I got my tires changes and my bike just completely shut down. Wouldnt start no lights or anything. I tried little things on my own, and to no avail I finally called Gen X. Josie picked up and stayed on the phone for over 20 minutes walking me through the steps to try and figure out the problem. It turned out to be a much deeper problem that couldnt be fixed on the spot. My bike magically started an I got most of the way home then they picked up my bike from where I was. Its because of this above and beyond service that I always recommend their shop to my friends, and will most likely never go to another shop.

The best! Ive had two bikes serviced here since 2010. Jon and Josie, the owners, both ride, so they really know their stuff. Their pricing is always very fair. I had my first 10k at the triumph dealer the second here: Jon showed me the main engine gasket that should have been replaced but was original factory. I take my bike in at the end of the season and tell them I want to ride 7k without a service stop (except oil) and Ive never had even a minor problem! They pick your bike up for $50: try and get that deal and fair prices anywhere else! I needed a full face helmet carrier and Josie found the perfect one. I told Jon I wanted more visibility and he designed and installed the perfect solution. They give honest estimates but Im so happy with them I just tell them fix everything. Its your life on the bike: know your mechanic! If you dont know who is working on your bike and/or you dont love your mechanic you belong at GenX!! Bruce

Gen X Performance in Highland Park, IL are quite possibly the most unprofessional and crooked individuals I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Theyve kept my scooter hostage for months, have misquoted me hundreds of dollars, caused me to lose the $1500 sale of the scooter and are now charging me an additional $200 to fix what they shouldve fixed back in November and for which they said they WOULDNT charge me for because it was their mistake. They misrepresented their abilities and the customer has to pay for it. Mom & Pop racket. Seriously? Have you ever had somebody do work on a car or your home or anything and not give you a price quote until after theyve completed the work and then hold your property hostage until you pay the unapproved price?!?!?

I had a tire valve stem problem for my BMW F650 CS. From a few calls around the area, Gen X was the friendliest and the most reasonably priced of all the shops in the north suburbs that I called. When I took the bike in they were missing a tool to get the wheel off. John was completely upfront and honest and Josie gave me a lift back home, which I really appreciated. I came back the next day to a newly washed bike and the tire has been running well ever since. I had a great time talking bikes with them and I would definitely go back for regular maintenance and repairs.
