Excellent service, very high quality product, middle-of-the-road pricing for the quality of product, and a proper butcher shop atmosphere. As they grow I hope they can expand with a few spices, sauces, or other seasonings (perhaps work with the Spice House up on Central St at some point?). I went in initially to see if they had any dried sausage (I was looking for Spanish chorizo picante for a slow-cooked dish), and while they didnt have any at the moment the owner said hed look into possibly supplying what I use in the coming weeks. The next visit was for several pounds of pork shoulder for that same dish, and the owner was happy to go in back, pull the slab out of the walk-in cooler, and carve what I needed, right there within full view. It was great when he looked up and asked, "Do you need the fat or should I trim it off?". It took perhaps 10 minutes to cut and weigh out, but I wasnt rushed and was worth every second. The prices for meat, considering the quality of locally sourced meat, is mid-range. Sure, its not going to be supermarket prices, but if youre reading this then youre hopefully looking for better. Give them a try!

Amazing local butcher that specializes in small batch, farm to table local fare. Many cuts may be unfamiliar at first but all are worth a try - the Bavette steaks are exceptional. Custom cuts are no problem as long as you call ahead. Homemade pates, sausage, and other cured meats are available and the selection changes daily. For the chef - duck eggs, beef marrow and lard are available for purchase as well. Great staff and super solid moo, oink, cluck-cluck, bah, and gobble gobble.

What a wonderful resource to have in convenient downtown Evanston! We now have a hand made bread store (Hewn), handmade pastries (Coralie), and artisinal meat (Homestead), all within a few blocks of each other. The aged ribeye was the best piece of meat I have ever had, including at steakhouses. Nutty, robust, tender. All my guests were wowed. The beef and lamb bacons are amazing, as are their non-pork pates. They select their meat from humane and local vendors. Love Homestead!

My family and friends refer to this stores products as "lifechanging meat." Until you try it, you cannot understand how qualitatively better it is than meat, chicken, sausage, bacon, etc. from even high end supermarkets. It is comparatively expensive, but you get what you pay for. I make a visit once or twice a week, often buying just a small steak or chop for my own dinner. Try it and you will see what I mean.

I was thrilled to find that the beef from Homestead Meats tastes like the beef I remember from childhood-- a time when small family farms were the norm. I never thought I would experience such flavorful meat again! People today have no idea what they are missing, but if they visit this shop in Evanston, they will find out. Truly the best.

Great local butcher. Very knowledgeable! They have source from small farmers. In addition to a fresh meat counter they also have a small selection of frozen goods like bone broth. They have varieties of sausage that change seasonally.
