As a new student at the law school, I finally made my way to the bookstore today to purchase some of the cheaper books. As I half-expected, when I got there I found one of the books sold out from the textbook section of the store. Now, usually my next step would be obvious - go to the "Law" section of the general (i.e. non-textbook) section of the bookstore and see if my book was there. Today however, I had witnessed a rather condescending employee offer help to several people only to give them looks of disgust when they turned her down. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt - perhaps she really did know better than all of us, after all, she worked here. I approached her for help locating the book. After telling her it appeared sold out from the textbook shelves and explicitly asking "could it be on another shelf or in back?" she replied, snarky as ever, "Youre the first person to ask about it, so it must have just sold out. Wed have to special order it for you." "No thank you, Ill find it on my own," I replied, only to be met with the expected "okay" and look that said "if you want to go off trying to find a book in this crazy world on your own, be my guest, but like all the others youll fail and wish you had taken the gift of mediocre customer service I offered you." Of course my next stop was the "Law" section of the bookstore where I quickly found the book, listed in alphabetical order by author. I could have avoided the poor interaction just by trusting my gut, but I assumed her condescension toward other customers might have been justified. It wasnt.

Its at a very good location, which is why I end up going there more often than Id like to. The cafe has a lot of options and theres seating & plenty of sunlight, but other than that its not a very pretty place to be in. The Bookstore itself is okay, but it lacks the cozy atmosphere I like seeing in bookstores.

Twice when making online apparel orders the items were out of stock. Also was told to go to the cashier upstairs when returning a rented book, after having read a sign at the counter that said to return rentals downstairs! Clearly poorly managed. Definitely a buy!

A great selection of University of Chicago apparel and keepsakes in addition to a regular Barnes & Noble bookstore. There is a good selection school supplies as well. The attached coffee shop/convenience store make this a good stop on a visit to the University.

After Christmas they have a great, small clearance section. The cafe had a good selection. U C clothes are super expensive but thats to be expected. Nice general book selection.
