I was sad to see the old Barnes go (since it was my favorite one in the Cities), but change happens and the new restaurant sounded interesting. So, I finally visited the new store. It was a BIG disappointment. It is very industrial, sterile and not cozy in the least (I dont hate that look usually, but it doesnt work in a bookstore atmosphere, in my opinion). It definitely does not look like a place I want to come to and spend any time to look through/buy books. The store is at least 1/2 the size it was if not smaller (you now have only 1 floor instead of 2, and the restaurant/cafe takes up a large amount of that space.) The childrens department is about 1/4 of what it used to be. The other areas are all smaller as well. I did not try the restaurant so I cannot speak to that. I will try the restaurant/cafe in the future as maybe that is worth stopping in for. But if they are trying to retain customers with this new atmosphere versus them shopping online, I think you get a fail on that. I will have to search out the more cozy "older" Barnes to now get my bookstore fix.

I LOVE Barnes and noble and I somehow had a terrible experience here thanks to one terroble employee. I went to return a book I had gotten twice for xmas and the employee processing the return gave me a lecture about the fact that the person who had given me the gift had taped the gift receipt to the inside cover. I understand how that can be annoying for an employee, but he then proceeded to take the book from me, rip the receipt out himself, tell me I had damaged it and that it couldnt be returned. He crumpled up the gift receipt IN FRONT OF MY FACE. The only reason I can assume he accepted the return was because a manager happened to pass by and told him to take it. The employee who actually rang me up apologized for how dramatic the other guy was. I was at her register initially, so I have no idea why the other guy even interfered. Ill take my in store credit elsewhere than risk having to deal with Roger or whatever his name is again. Not sure if he was having a bad day. There are plenty other Barnes and noble stores nearby than go there again.

Real downgrade from before. Its ugly and cold. I was there for a book signing which included *2* authors. While I was interacting with the first having my book signed and taking my picture the Barnes and noble employee took my book for the second author from me to the second author and had her sign my book then gave the book back to me before I could even react. The point of these events is to INTERACT WITH THE AUTHOR. This woman rudely rushed me and blocked my second interaction with the other author. Shame on her for ruining something for me that I had been waiting for. I showed up for my wristband to wait before the store even opened and waited for the actual reading for over an hour because I was so looking forward to this. You need to work on this before you host other author events and ruin these life experiences for people.

At first, I was just fine with the location. But, upon closer look, I found that the book selection wasnt as good as at the old location. Several times when looked for specific books, they were not in stock. Mostly in the Manga section. The order of the book series would go 1, 2, 3, 5, 7....and so on. The volumes werent in the correct order, with many volumes unavailable. Then, I went to the customer service on the second visit, and asked for the books to be ordered. I asked how long it would take, and was told approximately a week. Maybe less. I called after five days to check on it, and was hung up on by a man who sounded very angry. I called back, and finally got my answer by the same person, who said, "No, its not." (Ready.) And hung up before I could say anything else. It very disappointing that this person is allowed to work there.

I have been a resident for 21 plus years in the city of Edina, and have loved going to Barnes & Noble, weather it was for a book, latest magazine, DVD, CD, a gift from their lovely assortment of items, a card, or grabbing a muffin and coffee in their cafe, or standing in line for a book signing, all these GREAT memories. I went Saturday to see what a concept store was, are you kidding, it reminded me of a Costo store, that cold, indifferent, gee going down two flights of stairs to see this. You have lost me as a valued customer, sorry this is a disaster for my city. I asked a clerk where was the CDs, music or movie section, "sorry we just want to concentrate on books," really well good luck. I will not give you any of my business.

I have to say B&N, you have impressed me with your cafe. The decor, the seating arrangement and your menu was fantastic. I would have never imagined a bookstore providing a menu like this. We loved every bite and enjoyed the ambiance which complimented our consultation and conversation needs. The servers were really well informed amd confident in helping us order our items. I want to believe that you did your homework when staffing your cafe. They were professional and prompt. I wish you had more items for kids to choose from. The only struggle about this place is finding parking. Its definitely a popular and hip place to have some family time or work from. I would love to come back here and work/read.

A nice move across the hall from their old location. It is a bit smaller with some sections feeling it more then others (romance, kids are both a fraction of the old space). The Barnes & Noble Kitchen is a nice experiment. The food was much better then we were expecting, great flavors, and the beer and wine list looks really well done. There is a really great space in the Kitchen area for a casual meet up with friends or a great book club sitting area. The prices for the food were a little high, hopefully they come down a little bit. The store has a great central area for author talks and events, I hope that they continue to get great authors coming to the space.

A very unappealing space. Concrete floors, over bright lighting, harsh look, loud space. The old store was very appealing for browsing and exploring. This place has no charm and certainly doesnt feel like a bookstore. They seem more concerned with promoting the food, which is not what Im looking for in a bookstore. A much smaller selection of books and many other things are just gone. They still have vinyl, but otherwise there is no real media content. A flawed concept store. The location is convenient, but Id rather travel further for a better bookstore feel and book selection.

If there is as a negative star for our experience I would select that option. The people there are hungry for sales that they dont give you time to look around. We bought coffee and stale crossiants (they should be ashamed of that) from the stand and right when we sat down a host came and told us we cant sit there unless we order a meal so we changed seats and another host came up to us and told us the same thing. We ended up moving again. I wish if I had talked to the manager at that point. We will never ever go there again!
