I dont want this to be a book, but I want to be as informative and helpful as possible. That being said, I am a former Petland employee. I worked at petland for a while, not really long enough to be that important. This was a commission based job, you sell a puppy and you get a cash bonus. Puppies are priority because puppies are money. Now let me tell you guys something, employees have talked about reviews. Especially the ones Im writing in right now. And they have come in and given the store five stars to skew the rating. Please listen before you go in. I believe I didnt fit in because I couldnt sell puppies very well. I was pretty concerned about letting them play and making sure they didnt get hurt, and I wouldnt push as hard. I just liked cleaning up and checking on things and helping customers. I guess I wasnt that good at it though lol So Ill tell everyone what really goes down, bias be damned. THE GOOD I know some might not think so, but I actually enjoyed my time there. It was nice being around animals, befriending coworkers and customers, and learning everything you want to know about pets. Believe it or not, some of those workers know what theyre talking about. And when I say know, I mean they can answer any question you may have. Its pretty cool and very educational. THE BAD Alright, this is what youve been waiting for, whether youre the manager checking reviews, an employee thinking I betrayed them, or a potential customer ready to stand in the stench of dirty laundy being aired. This is going to be long, so get comfortable. They are puppy pushers. Bonuses are given and contests are had. If a puppy is sick but a customer seems even slightly serious about buying, the puppy will be pulled out. All other animals take a back seat. Two ferrets died in the span of a month. Puppies are sent home and die. Dead fish are left in aquariums. Animals that arent "cute" and cuddly are left alone - mainly spiders and scorpions. The store is a mess. Any suggestions to make the environment cleaner and happier are seen as too time consuming and as employees overreacting to reviews. The stockroom is a mess, the rat room is cramped, the kennels smell bad and puppies always cry out, employees dont care, and the "break area" is a mess of cigarettes and broken supplies. Its a cut-throat competition of sales and sabotage there, making it hard to be a happy employee. Back stabbing and general high school antics everywhere. Theres more, but I think Im done. It feels good to get a little bit out. So, please dont buy from there. Please go to the pound. The dogs are healthier there anyways.

It was the best experience I have ever had in a Pet Store and as a investigator. The employees are knowledgeable, and extremely protective of their animals. The Store was very clean, and I watched this employee actually provide proof to a customer of where their animals are purchased and how they are cared for. They encourage people to socialize and play with the puppies without buying, for the good of the puppies. ,They also screened me as a potential good pet owner for their puppies. Their health warranties alone are proof of where they buy there animals. In truth and logic there is no way, if these puppies were being bought out of puppy mills they can warranty congenital issues for 3 years if they were buying from mills. AS some people may know they chances of puppies having congenital issues, viral issues, as well as temperament issues are very high if they come out of mills. Many people make judgments based on irreputable pet stores that give good ones bad names. I encourage people not to judge without investigation. You can not stop people from breeding dogs, as long as people want them. However you can make sure that you are buying from reputable people. The sooner we get puppy mills closed down the better. Every pet deserves a good home. So dont cheat a good pet out of a home because of mis-information. Keep an open mind. This store was bought out a year and a half ago by a very responsible family who walked in, took one look at it, and decided they wanted to fix what they saw. This Pet land just earned an excellence award for "Best New store of the Year". So give them a chance. Dont listen to the mis-informed. I would be the first to point it out if they were not a good store. Thats what I do for a living.

Do not purchase any pets from this store. My fiancé purchased an 11 weeks English bulldog from there, took him back to his last appointment at berry animal hospital and was told he was healthy. My puppy did develop the kennel cough and was given some pills that food absolutely nothing. I Rufus to his new vet in his new home town and was give some meds that helped him and discovered he had a heart murmur that was rated a 4 from a scale of 1-6. We contacted the warranty dept and was given the run around. After having 2-3 different conversation the warranty rep lied about what she said in the previous conversations and changed up what she told us we needed to do. Our puppy has to go to a cardiologist and is having major skin issues currently at 6 months now. I know that is normal with English bulldogs but the doctor is concerned about his life expectancy. Im very upset and would not recommend anyone buying from any petland. If you do talk to the warranty rep, record the whole conversations.

I have come into this Petland several times and have had overall awful experiences. The employees are catty and you can tell they are talking about you and that is extremely unprofessional. I also have come in to by mice to feed my snake and they gave me such bad customer service the worker had such a bad attitude and was extremely disrespectful. I bet someone will try to right a good review in response to this bad one but everyone should know I will never make another trip back to the disrespectful "puppy pushers" of the Rome Petland. I hope and pray someone comes in and helps these poor animals who can not help themselves. The workers do not care for these poor animals and it shows.

I started going to Petland to see cute puppies & low prices, but I never seem to see either. Everytime I go in, I see at least one puppy who looks sick & it just breaks my heart. I highly doubt any of these animals actually receive any love except from the curious customers. Their prices are way higher than other places & their service is poor. I am NEVER greeted or helped. The employees just mill about and carry on conversations with one another. Every time I ask a question, they tell me to Google it because they dont know. Ive been disappointed by Petland for many years, and apparently the new management didnt make much of a difference.

My husband and I purchased a dozen goldfish and one male beta fish on the evening of 7/17/2017. We paid $3 for a dozen feeder fish, which I think is priced too high but whatever. The woman catching the feeder fish was also rude. There were two prices listed for their beta fish: $5.99 for the males and I believe $3.99 for their females. When we brought the male to the register, the cashier told us the beta was $10.99. We decided to buy him anyway. However, when we got home, we saw that she actually charged us $13.99!!! We will NOT be going back to this store again and feel cheated.
