The store is far too small for their inventory and the staff is lazy. I often go to this store (avg. once a month) now that there is no other choice, at least until Dicks opens, and will find 2 or more employees in the checkout cage but only one checkout lane is open. Inevitably only one person will actually be running a cash register and the customer check out lines will stack up. The non-busy employees will be happy to just keep talking to one another and will not open a lane in order to speed along the customer flow. Ive worked retail before and know that letting people just stand in long lines is bad for business when you have employees standing around; doing nothing else. This has happened numerous times over the last few months and is a clear sign of poor management. It happened the other day that there were 3 employees in the checkout cage and a line of people that ran at least 10 people deep. When I went to the open lane where there were 2 employees available for checkout I was directed to the very long wait time lane and the girl that should have been checking out customers just went back to chatting with her friend co-worker. At first I couldnt tell how long the wait line over there was because there is so much junk everywhere that a person can hardly move in the store without bumping into something... So I just left the expensive stuff that I was going to buy and left the store. Ive given the benefit of the doubt too many times at this store and am done with Big5. Ill never buy from Big5 again.

Worst place ever. Christina who is the manager has no people skills. She is very rude, inconsiderate, and does not know how to treat employees. Many people have quit there jobs because of her. She is very fake. If she does not like you then she will find any way to get rid of you. Also the assistant manager Charles is the most akward and unprofessional person I have ever met. He acts like a child and does not know how to treat employees. Last there is a assistant manager Chris who has worked there for 6 years and finally became a assistant manager. Now he thinks hes better than everone else and tells many many LIES... He is the biggest lier and a bigger kid. Not joking. In conclusion I would not recommend anyone going to this store because of the bad customer service by managers. You will also endure a hostile work environment working at Big 5 Sporting goods in Chula Vista....

Return Policy really such no thanks to an unfair manager. I spent s lot of money here the other day and bought a pair or shoes. I wear them once and my feet were killing me so I came today to return them and they now say I cant return them because I didnt have a box to go with it not even store credit. Other shoe stores have taken them before no problem. I now have a new pair of shoes that are now useless to me and Id hate for it to go to waste. Guys please be aware and buy at your own risk. By the way the manager herself was way overconfident and totally blew me off at the end by saying "sorry you cant return them because you do not have the box that goes with it but you are more than welcome to buy yourself a brand new pair of shoes right back there" as if I was trying to scam them now Ive ever felt so violated from such a respected business that I no longer respect.

Employees are great, everything is easy to find. Nice to be in and out and got what I want right away. Bought a pair of fishing boots that are high quality and hard to find elsewhere for the price. Great selections of knives on sale and staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They also offered all kinds of discounts if you ask.

Purchased a pellet gun, was told I could make a return over the phone. Got to the store and the manager lied saying he never got a call and didnt try to help at all, went to the big 5 on palm and they returned my money no problem.

If i could give them 0 stars i would never shopping here again, dont try to return nothing after you purchase they will not give you a return they will just offer a discount on another purchase.
