This was the first time Ive been to the new venue that they had, which was conveniently located a couple shops down from where they used to be. And Ill admit, it was a pretty nice venue. But it was loud. It was jam packed with kids and a pleasant conversation was too much to ask for when you have to yell at someone standing a foot away from you just to tell them something. But thats fine, Im not going to bash them on that. Kids are loud. Now what my main peeves were. I stood at the counter for fifteen minutes without service. Literally. Fifteen minutes. You would think in a game shop with 50+ people inside, they would have more than one person manning the store. But no. Fifteen uncomfortable minutes. Did I mention even the register area was uncomfortably crowded? Okay, now the final. I used to love Game Academy. Seriously, the prices were AWESOME. But now, its different. It seems like since they moved to the new venue, they think they can jack their prices up. The product I wanted to buy was priced 15 dollars above retail. Fifteen. Dollars. And thats not all. Later, after walking out of the store flustered and unhappy, I found out that they had been buying the product from other local game stores (where I purchased what I wanted for base price) and resold it at jacked up prices with the excuse that its a limited time item and this is the only place to get it. Thats a business strategy, sure. But its dirty. Luckily, the other game store I went to was smart enough not to sell its whole stock out. When I left the store after telling them I changed my mind and wasnt going to buy it, the clerk dismissed me in a rude, sarcastic manner, saying "Good luck." I know someone may come on here and knock me and say Im from another game store just talking smack but I want you to know that I hold no loyalties for any other game store. Not Anthem, not Armada, no one. But my experience at Game Academy was enough to turn a positive view on them as my "go-to" place to get cards to a "dont-go" place. If I do happen to revisit Game Academy and I get better service and notice reasonable prices that dont feed off of lies and dirty business etiquette, Ill come back and edit this. Until then, I would avoid this place and go to a reliable gaming store. Im certainly not supporting them anymore.

Very rude if you arent into magic, asked about yugioh cards and if I could browse them, its all computer based and you cant browse, you have to know exactly what card you want witch is nice but if you just want to look at what they have and dont know what you looking for its useless, you cant read there effect and have to look it up on your phone or in a new tab, then youll realize its cheaper to order online. They have items on the counters that arent for sale mixed with ones that are. Asked about a play mat and the one I was looking at wasnt for sale, mixed with other ones for sale, so I said, well why is it in here then, youd think they wouldnt have have it in there, (also it was a mat from a 2008 regional tournament so its not new) and very snobby and rudely said well thats because we do have time to do it, even though they were just standing at the counter watching people play magic.

I spent two months living in Tampa and quite a bit of time in this shop. The owner, Josh I believe was his name, was very pleasant and ran awesome weekly events. His website was very nice and I was able to easily sell many of my cards to them with their buy list. It was very helpful on wallet for my stay in Tampa. I would recommend anyone who likes MTG or gaming to stop in and check it out. Great community of nice players. Now I am back in Michigan and sometimes wish I could come back to Tampa just to say hi to Josh and the rest of the crew.

If your focus is on Magic or one of the other, more kiddy games like Pokemon or Yugioh, youll enjoy this store. If youre looking for anything else, forget it. Its basically not really a FLGS (friendly local gaming store), per se, as much as a card-gaming store, specifically. Nothing wrong with that but out of the three main gaming stores in Tampa (all of which are - bizarrely - located in the northern suburbs), this is probably the one Id least recommend as its simply too narrow in focus.

I like going to there all the time and I prefer buying cards from them over anywhere else but I just wish they wouldnt give you a hard time if you placed more than one order. Sometimes Ill order cards and then realize I want to order more or different kinds of cards and they always ask "Why didnt you just order them all together??" As if you were a burden... Its a crappy feeling but everyone there has gone above and beyond for me so its easily overlooked.

I went to this gaming store to play in a magic tournament recently and was delighted by the amount of seats available, and the cleanliness of the store. The guy working at the stores name was Josh, he was able to handle multiple customers at the same time, and still make me feel like i was still the most important. The selection of accessories, cards, and available packs was amazing. This will be a store i frequent.

Yugioh on Saturday is the best. Theres plenty of gamers coming to tournament and they give a hell of a challenge, Even the noobs. Friendly staff (that are experts) will tell you what will get nerfed and give advice on your deck set. Clean place, computers allow quick purchase of cards, and they sell food, drink, card game accessories, and a few other merchandise. I had a nerdgasm my first time there.

Great environment and a large inventory makes this the premier card store in Tampa. If you play cards, or are interested in collectible card games, This is the place for you.

Its a solidly fun gaming store that offers mtg tournaments. The singles selection in store is limited to standard cards, so that definitely is a draw back to playing there.
