I was completely dismissed by the owner Sam. I met a friend here on his recommendation while looking for a new mask and snorkel for my husband. My friend goes in regularly and spends quite a bit of money and immediately he was taken care of. I, on the other hand was not. My questions were dismissed or Sam would turn around and answer the question I had just asked to my friend instead of me. When I asked what the difference between a wet and dry snorkel was he literally laughed at me. I dont know, thats why I asked! I finally decided on a mask and snorkel, asked for them and then waited while my friend was being helped. After another few minutes Sam asked me again what I wanted so I told him. And then waited some more. Finally he rang me up, but forgot the snorkel. I had to tell him three more times that I wanted a snorkel before he actually got it for me. Unfortunately I didnt get the right mask for my husband and we had to exchange it. When we walked into the shop there was one other customer and a new employee as well as Sam. I told Sam we needed to exchange the mask and then we waited a few minutes while he helped the other guy. He came over and asked again what we needed and then walked away, then came back and asked again. Finally he told the new employee to do the exchange, which she did with his help (other customer was in the dressing room). He grabbed the mask off the wall (not a new one from the back), took the old mask, ran my credit card for the difference and then put both the mask I brought back plus the new mask behind the counter and walked away. I stood there confused and looking at the new employee who also seemed confused. After a minute I walked up and said "hey, can I get my receipt and mask?". He glanced over and said "this guy was here first, Ill be with you in a minute." What?! You just took my money and merchandise and walked away! I ended up leaving my husband in the shop to deal with it. Maybe they have good prices (I have nothing to compare it to) but his attitude and customer service sucks! To laugh at someones questions or dismiss what theyre asking for is just rude!

I used this shop instead of a couple bigger shops because I wanted to support a small owner/operator rather than a faceless chain. They had some decent deals online and were relatively close so I gave it a shot. My experience echoes the reviews below, although not quite as negative. The biggest complaint I have is that even though this should have been a place where you can make and build a relationship, it kind of felt like I was making their life difficult with questions etc... Case in point - I did an advanced class there and never got my ID card; it was mailed to the store. After I finally tracked it down by calling the instructor, I went to the store and asked if it was there. It was sitting in the back office in a drawer under some other stuff - and to top it off, the owner said, with a bit of an attitude, "Its been sitting here since July". I asked him why it hadnt occurred to them to let me know, the response was something like "all the cards get mailed here", like I was just supposed to know this. I told him that no, my open water card was mailed to be (another shop years ago) and he told me I was wrong. This was one of several examples where I didnt get anything close to the customer service Id expect from a smaller shop. When it comes down to it, I can get equipment and service anyplace; they had a chance to get a permanent local customer, but each of the 4 or 5 times I left that place, I never had the feeling like they had my best interests in mind. Note to old man, drop the attitude or let your son handle the customers.

If youre a newbie diver or are wanting to be better informed about products then find another dive shop as the owner is a jerk. He follows you around and gives you attitude about the questions you ask him. I personally had a horrible experience and wanted to leave immediately after witnessing his rudeness. I gave the shop the benefit of the doubt and purchased a mask since Im having trouble finding a mask that doesnt leak. Just about all dive shops have a great return policy and before I purchased the mask I asked him if I have any issues with it leaking would I be able to return it and he said sure. When I returned the mask a couple hours later he got all nasty with me to the point that I wanted to throw the mask at him. I then asked him why he was getting all upset about honoring his own return policy that he verbally agreed to and he told me that I should shop online and never come back to his store. He even said the following statement to me: "this is my shop and i get to choose my customers and i dont want you as a customer". Ill gladly spend my money elsewhere... Sam is the owners name I highly recommend going anywhere but there. The shop should be renamed to Divers Discounted Service by Sam.

After spending months renting equipment and trying to determine what we liked, what we wanted and what we needed, we decided to pull the trigger and purchase our gear. We happened to be in Ft. Lauderdale with friends and stopped by the Divers Discount store. Best decision we could have made. Sam and his staff could not have been more helpful, were absolute SCUBA encyclopedias and really helped us make informed decisions on our gear - not only for our safety and enjoyment - but also for that "buyers remorse" a lot of people get wondering if they made the right decision. Never once have we had those thoughts (which is rare for us). The only regret I had is not taking their advise and buying the wetsuit they recommended in the store. So, I got home, went on their website and bought it. Not one problem with the website sale or the delivery. Flawless. If you are looking for SCUBA gear at great prices, but also great people to back it up for years to come, you will not go wrong with Divers Discount Florida. Thanks!

The owner Sam is horrible. He assaulted me because he was mad that I called him out on a lie. This was in front of his daughter that was behind the counter. She was screaming for him to stop as he threw me around the store. He is a pretty big guy and me weighing 150lbs I was thrown around the store pretty good. I called the police out and they filled out a police report and mentioned they had been called out to the store several times for similar situations. Pretty nuts as nothing like this has ever happened to me. He immediately attacked me when I told him that I spoke to the company that makes the BCD he was trying to sell me, and they confirmed that this product had a two year warranty not a lifetime warranty as he told me several times the day before. This was a BCD that he was claiming he designed. Turns out they just embroider his logo on it or something, and he lies about it having a lifetime warranty. I wish I read the reviews on here before I was assaulted.
