The largest non-corporate bookstore in Broward county. The prices here are somewhat higher than thrift stores for books, but the selection here is clean, well organized, and in good condition. The employees here are entirely friendly and helpful. The only small bit that I didnt entirely dig about this bookstore is that they have two prices for softcover books, depending on the size of each book. Small paperbacks were $2 and large paperbacks were $4. I felt sort of taken advantage of when coming to the register and being told that ALL of the paperbacks that I selected were large, ie: $4 books. I was then shown how small a paperback book must be to qualify as a $2 item, and this meant that only tiny pocket size mass market paperbacks here were $2. Afterwards, one of the books that I took home was discovered to have a page removed. This page contained the publishers information and year of printing. I purchased this book because I believed it to be an original print from the year 1894, and it turned out to be a more modern reprint, with the page containing information about the reprinting removed either by the previous owner, or this store. Again, the employees here seemed nice, but I do not think I will return often given the higher than thrift store prices, along with books having missing pages. No book store should sell a book with missing pages, unless the customer is notified. Very not cool. Regardless, I may or may not return here, but if I do, caution will be exercised. This is just my experience, and I do not deny any good experiences other reviewers may have had here. Three stars. I am neutral about Big Apple Books.

The best way I can describe it is like what youd see and experience at a yard sale, or the salvation army or red cross donated books section. The store is small, and the selection is very poor. Mostly second tier hardcovers, yesterdays New York Times best seller list, bland... The books are on tabletops or in boxes on the floor -- for a place this small, floor to ceiling zig-zag shelving would be a must, but they dont have enough books to fill the small room, so I suppose thats irrelevant. Books are *very* loosely organized, with a general "fiction" section, for example. Virtually no sci-fi, fantasy or thrillers, and if youre a collector or bibliophile just completely forget it. They were extremely friendly, I must note, and although that is certainly welcome in any store, my main concern is with the merchandise. I cant comment on the pricing because I didnt see anything of interest and walked out (prices are not posted on the items). Im new to the area, but what Ive found so far, for general book lovers, I recommend Second Edition books in Fort Lauderdale, and for fantasy/sci-fi and vintage/collectible fans I recommend Volume One Books also in Fort Lauderdale.

OWNER IS QUITE UNFRIENDLY AND ABRASIVE, WHILE SELECTION IS NON EXISTENT & SELECTION IS STREWN IN BOXES & ON TABLES AND SHELFS ( WILLY NILLY ) VERY SMALL AND DANK,,INVENTORY IS LIKE SOMETHING YOU WOULD FIND IN THE SALVATION ARMY DUMPSTER OR VERY BAD GARAGE SALE OR RECYCLED PAPER MILL DROP OFF LOCATION( rejects ) THEY CAN NOT BE SELLING THIS UNWANTED INVENTORY & CLEARLY ARE MOVING THE BETTER MEDIA ONLINE BECAUSE THEY DO IN FACT BUY BOOKS, BUT THAT IS NOT NEGLIGIBLE BY WHAT THEY HAVE IN STORE SHELVES & BETTER ITEMS ARE CLEARLY GOING OUT THE BACK DOOR AND ONTO THE POST OFFICE TRUCK OR SENT TO AMAZON,, LOOKING AT THE ON SHELF STORE INVENTORY THERE IS NO REASON TO EVEN GO TO THIS PLACE UNLESS YOUR GETTING OUT OF THE PORING RAIN,OR NEED TO USE THE RESTROOM

Cant beat their prices for used books and other media ($2-$4). Very polite and knowledgeable staff. All the books were in excellent or very good condition. It was slightly crowded with boxes of yet-to-be-shelved books, as it is a rather small place. I wasnt totally sure what I ended up paying for, as I bought so much and I didnt know what I was paying for because some books were $2 and some were $4. There wasnt an itemized receipt at the end, so I dont know what I was charged for. But Id go there again, because I bought a ton of books for my classroom for only $100. Definitely worth the car ride and the price.

Amazing selection. Easy to understand pricing (1.50 for small books, 2.50 for larger ones). They discounted my total without my even asking because I bought a lot of books. They also buy or give store credit for your used books. I plan to take another trip there to do an exchange :)

I looked up Big Apple to sell my unwanted books (trying to downsize). The overall experience was great! Great customer service. Clean and organized. Welcoming atmosphere. The next time I am looking to buy or sell any books, dvds, or cds, I will be going back to the Big Apple.

This place is THE BEST. I dont say that lightly, because lets face it: there arent many small independent bookstores left, much less places that are actually organized. Easy to find what you need, AND they have dvds, cds AND records too! Everyone who works here ROCKS.

Absolutely love this place. I have been shopping here ever since I moved to Florida. The owner is great as well as the staff. Reminds me of a very small, Floridian version of The Strand in New York City. Everyone should take some time and visit this place.
