This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have had in my entire life. The staff are liars. I took my old beach cruiser to the Bike Rack over the summer to have the tires replaced. I told them I just wanted the same kind of tires that were currently on the bike (retro white walls) and never mentioned a price range. They told me they did not have the tires in stock and would have to order them, and they would arrive in about a week. So a week goes by, and I call to check on my bike. I was told the tires werent in yet but that tracking information showed they had shipped from the supplier and would arrive the next day, at which point I could pick up my bike. Two days later I called and they said the same exact thing (even throwing in the part about this bogus tracking information). Another week goes by and they said the same exact thing. ANOTHER week goes by and the same story, with no explaination as to how their supposed tracking information got so screwed up. So finally my husband called and asked to speak to the owner after my bike had been at the shop for a MONTH. The owner then said that actually, the tires HAD NEVER BEEN ORDERED. So we had been lied to for over a month. When my husband asked why they had not been ordered, the owner lied YET AGAIN and said that I had given them a strict order to not get tires over $100, andthey hadnt found any tires yet that met my price range. Now this of course was a total lie, that was an excuse they made up to cover their you-know-whats. They also claimed to have called me three times to let me know about the delay and see if I would be willing to order tires over this fictional price range, but they never called once. I asked them during my many calls to them if they had my correct phone number, which they did because they repeated it back to me. Then, in an effort to make it up to us, the owner said he would order the tires immediately and have them over-nighted at their expense. What do you think happened? Of course, no tires the next day. Or the day after that. Or the day after that...so we just picked up the bike and took it elsewhere. They were sooooo horrible it is unbelievable. Do NOT go to this store.

I went here as it is close to work for me and they seem to hold themselves out as a competent shop. The only two experiences Ive had with them have been poor. First, I had them tune the disc brakes on my mountain bike. TWO WEEKS later I called them to ask what was going on and they said they were waiting for a part. OK, I said, hopefully it comes in soon. I called THREE WEEKS later and they explained that the park for MY FORK was not in yet! WTF! They never called me about this and I didnt ask them to do fork work - only brake work was requested. I inquired how my fork was involved with my brakes (thinking they took my bike out on the weekend and destroyed it), and they looked at the ticket and apparently did a Homer Simpson slap on the head and said it would be ready that day. I showed up the NEXT day and nothing had been done. They made me feel guilty about stopping their work to fix the brakes on my bike before I left with it. Since they charged me exorbitantly for this "service" it is clear that I should have learned to do it myself. I gave them a second chance a few weeks later (I should have known better but I believe everyone deserves a second chance) to package and ship a bike. They packaged the bike like somebody that has never seen or shipped a bike ever before ... like my pet dog. Sparing the details, the bike box arrived intact and in good condition. But, the down tube and wheel were messed up, scratched and dented. They apparently zip tied the disc brake wheel so close to the down-tube that it dented and scratched the down tube and wheel. They receiver of the bike was understandably angry and I had to refund the $80 (expedited fee - ha!) I paid for the packaging. So, the long and short is avoid this place at all costs if you need anything done in the shop.

Last year, I was going to go to California to participate in the AIDS ride, and I took my bike to The Bike Rack and spoke to Wayne about shipping my bike. He was extremely helpful, and I assumed that he was the owner. Not only did he pack my bike and took it to FEDEX (another bunch of jerks), he sold me nearly 700.00 of merchandise which I needed for the ride in California. He was very good. This year, I went back to ship my bike to California again for the AIDS ride, and when I went in, there was a man behind the counter who I did not recognize, and I asked to have my bike shipped. The manager, whos name I dont remember, said that they could box the bike but it would be up to me to get it to FEDEX. I told him that last year, they boxed it and took it to FEDEX for me, and the man behind the counter rudely spoke up and said in a loud voice, Can I help you. I explained my situation and he said that he was the owner and that is not the way that we do this. Once the manager went into the computer, he discovered that I was correct, and that Wayne did take it to FEDEX for me. This man behind the counter was extremely rude and does not know how to treat his customers. Fortunately, the manager realized that the owner was being a jerk and came to me and said that he would take care of it. He did, and I called to thank him for his customer service, but whoever the owner is of that store, he needs to take some lessons in business and how to treat customers. Thank you to the manager (maybe Aaron) for getting my bike to California. To the owner of the store: Go work somewhere where you dont need to deal with customers, or maybe sell the business to someone who knows customer service. Needless to say, I did not wear my biking shirt this year that had The Bike Rack on it.

I originally posted a negative review of the Bike Rack (see below), but Chuck, the owner, posted a thoughtful response to me on this Google page. So, I decided to visit the shop again, to follow up on our exchange. Chuck spoke to me in person, gave me his contact information, and was true to everything he said in his reply on this page. I had a good experience at the shop, and Im pleased with the work that they did. I will definitely be going back to the Bike Rack. ------------------------------------------------------------------ OLD REVIEW "I stopped in the Bike Rack to purchase a rack and a basket. The saleswoman told me that the rack would be installed free of charge if I purchased the rack and basket at the Bike Rack. I told her I would think about it, and that I would return the next day. I returned the next day, and talked to a salesman who told me that the rack and basket could be installed within the hour. So, I waited 40 minutes, and when the the bike mechanic spoke to me, he told me that the rack would not be installed free of charge, and that he could not install the rack and basket for 3-4 days. Basically, what both salespeople had told me was completely incorrect, and I wasted the better part of an hour, to boot. The bottom line: be wary of what the salespeople tell you, because apparently there is a disconnect between what they tell customers, and what the mechanics are willing and able to do."
